Tranquillien (/træŋˈkwɪliən/ trang-KWIL-ee-ən) is a blood elven town located in the Ghostlands, overlooking the Dead Scar on the western slope of Sungraze Peak. It is populated by both sin'dorei and the Forsaken, who have formed a faction that is overseen by Dame Auriferous and High Executor Mavren, along with their lieutenants, Advisor Valwyn and Deathstalker Maltendis. The town is regularly attacked by the Scourge of Deatholme; resources are therefore in perennial short supply, and communications from Silvermoon City are at best infrequent.
History
Third War
During the Fall of Quel'Thalas in 20 ADP, as the Scourge advanced to claim the Sunwell's power, the high elves were forced to abandon Tranquillien and retreated back to Silvermoon City.[1]
The Burning Crusade
By the time of the invasion of Outland in 26 ADP, Sylvanas Windrunner had repeatedly offered assistance in the form of supplies and troops to the kingdom of Quel'Thalas, and though the blood elves initially declined most of her offers, fearing a trick,[2] they eventually allowed the Forsaken soldiers on their lands. Most could be found at Tranquillien, where the Banshee Queen appointed High Executor Mavren to assist Dame Auriferous, in order to defeat Dar'Khan Drathir and the Scourge across the Ghostlands.[3] Their position was then tenuous, with the town being regularly attacked by the undead from the Dead Scar, while the Shadowpine forest trolls from Zul'Aman were arrayed across their eastern border. The Farstriders weren't available to support them, while Silvermoon City could only send them the bare minimum to stand against their enemies.[3]
During the conflict against Dar'Khan,[4] the Sanctum of the Sun was rebuilt by the blood elves of Tranquillien as a "banner of defiance" in front of Deatholme.[5] After the Scourge numbers were weakened, the heroes were tasked to kill Dar'Khan's lieutenants, including Mirdoran the Fallen, Borgoth the Bloodletter, Jurion the Deceiver, and Masophet the Black, in order to thrown their mindless armies into disarray.[6] They also had to save several Thalassian prisoners tortured by the undead, including Apprentice Varnis, Ranger Vedoran and their ally Apothecary Enith.[7] At the climax of the conflict, Magister Kaendris ordered the heroes to kill Dar'Khan and return with his head.[8] Only his death allowed the sin'dorei to become equal members of the Horde.[9]
In the Shadow of the Sun
At the start of the Scourgewar in 27 ADP, Sylvanas instructed Regent Lord Lor'themar Theron to send a force of blood elves to Northrend, or the Forsaken would cease to aid Quel'Thalas. With the Scourge still running rampant across the Dead Scar despite their every effort, Lor'themar agreed to her orders, since towns like Tranquillien would fall without the Banshee Queen's troops.[10]
Cataclysm
Following the Cataclysm in 28 ADP, Warchief Garrosh Hellscream ordered the Horde adventurers to report to Arcanist Vandril at Tranquillien, as their help was needed to turn back the numberless Scourge invaders.[11]
Battle for Azeroth
During the Fourth War in 33 ADP, as part of a ceremony of remembrance held each year in the kingdom, Lor'themar Theron accompanied the blood elf adventurer throughout the Ghostlands, shining the light of the Sunwell to reenact the Scourge invasion of Quel'Thalas and the sacrifices made in Quel'Thalas' darkest hour. The journey took them from Tranquillien to the Thalassian Pass where the battle began.[12]
Shadowlands
After the war against the Jailer in 36 ADP, the town came under attack by Vorath and his Scourge forces,[13] until the sin'dorei drove them back under the command of Lady Liadrin.[14][15]
Midnight
The Ghostlands are now restored and considered part of Eversong Woods once again, including Tranquillien. Although the Scourge is no longer a threat, the Forsaken have stayed in the town as citizens. The town has secretly become a haven for members of the Twilight's Blade cult. The cult eventually launches an attack on the town after Arator and Umbric become suspicious of it, turning on any citizens not a part of the cult. Afterwards, the town is left damaged by cracks of void energy, and bodies of fallen traitors remain in the streets, though locals have begun to clean the damage.

Reputation and rewards
As a reputation faction, Tranquillien is fairly easy to earn favor with. Players start at neutral with it, and reputation gains are abundant when questing through the Ghostlands. Most Tranquillien-related quests give 1,000 reputation, and one quest—
[1-30G5] The Traitor's Destruction—offers a tidy sum of 8,000 reputation. In addition,
[1-30] More Rotting Hearts and
[1-30] More Spinal Dust are repeatable for 500 reputation per completion.
Most Tranquillien reputation rewards come in the form of equipment sold by Provisioner Vredigar, who can be found near the inn in Tranquillien. The
[Tranquillien Tabard] is instead purchased by Cupri in Shattrath City, with an exalted reputation requirement.

Notes and trivia
- Renthar Hawkspear suspects sin'dorei rangers are being secretly killed at Tranquillien by the Forsaken, unbeknownst to Lor'themar Theron.[10]
- Occasionally, a group of undead break off from the Dead Scar and go to Tranquillien from its southern entrance. Guards notice them and quickly deal with them.
- Tranquillien was first mentioned by Jeffrey Kaplan aka Tigole in this IGN article.
- The reputation faction has its own
[Tranquillien Tabard]. It existed in the game files as early as patch 2.0.1 but was not made available to players until patch 11.0.5, along with several other previously inaccessible faction tabards.
