Deatholme is a Scourge citadel located in southwestern Ghostlands, marking the beginning of the Dead Scar. It serves as the major Scourge outpost in Quel'Thalas, with several ziggurats, slaughterhouses, and the Tower of the Damned at its center. The traitor Dar'Khan Drathir resided here along with his undead lieutenants - Mirdoran the Fallen, Borgoth the Bloodletter, Jurion the Deceiver, and Masophet the Black.
History
Third War
Following the Fall of Quel'Thalas in 20 ADP, the citadel was constructed atop the withered roots of Thas'alah, the mother tree of the Eversong Woods, after it was cut down by the Scourge.[1] The corrupted Prince Arthas Menethil then named the place Deatholme with the resurrected Dar'Khan Drathir as its ruler.[2] At some point, the banshee Sylvanas Windrunner overheard Arthas speaking about Deatholme, and when he returned from Kalimdor, his power waning, she contemplated that Dar'Khan would have her body. After she escaped the Lich King's control, she and her dark rangers entered the Scourge citadel and found her body there.[3]
Blood of the Highborne
In Year 25 ADP, Lady Liadrin and her Blood Knights scouted the area near Deatholme, hoping to kill Dar'Khan outside its walls, and noticed that the undead were actually flowing inside the citadel.[4]
The Burning Crusade
Prior to the invasion of Outland in 27 ADP, Blood Knight Dawnstar led an unsuccessful assault on Deatholme, which ended in his demise near the Tower of the Damned. Knight-Lord Bloodvalor eventually dispatched aspiring Blood Knights to collect Dawnstar's insignia from his corpse.[5]
When Dar'Khan Drathir rose into undeath once more to lead the Scourge from Deatholme,[6] the Sanctum of the Sun was rebuilt by the blood elves as a "banner of defiance" in front of the citadel, while Magister Kaendris sent adventurers to reduce the numbers of undead within.[7] After the Scourge was weakened, the heroes were tasked to kill Dar'Khan's lieutenants, including Mirdoran the Fallen, Borgoth the Bloodletter, Jurion the Deceiver, and Masophet the Black, in order to thrown their mindless armies into disarray.[8] They also had to save several Thalassian prisoners tortured by the undead, including Apprentice Varnis, Ranger Vedoran and their ally Apothecary Enith.[9]
At the climax of the conflict, Magister Kaendris ordered the heroes to kill Dar'Khan and return with his head.[10] Only his death allowed the sin'dorei to become equal members of the Horde.[11]
Battle for Azeroth
During the Fourth War in 33 ADP, as part of a ceremony of remembrance held each year in the kingdom, Lor'themar Theron accompanied the blood elf adventurer throughout the Ghostlands, shining the light of the Sunwell to reenact the Scourge invasion of Quel'Thalas and the sacrifices made in Quel'Thalas' darkest hour, such as the numerous high elf defenders killed by Arthas Menethil at the gates of Deatholme.[12]
Shadowlands
After the war against the Jailer in 36 ADP, the San'layn Vorath amassed a large number of Scourge under his command and marched through the Dead Scar to attack Tranquillien.[13] The sin'dorei forces led by Lady Liadrin retaliated with a counteroffensive against Deatholme. The Blood Knights and a blood elf hero charged at Vorath inside the citadel, successfully repelled his magics, and managed to kill him for good.[14]

[Fallen Knight's Ranseur] next to the body of Blood Knight Dawnstar becomes lootable after completing

[60] Blood Knight.- According to a 2006 interview with Jeff Kaplan, Deatholme served as the staging ground where Arthas and his Scourge forces prepared to march through Quel'Thalas to the Sunwell.[16] This is contradicted by Blood of the Highborne, which implies that the citadel was only established in the year 25, 5 years after the Scourge invasion.[4] Sylvanas later contradicted Blood of the Highborne's mention by stating that by the time Arthas returned from Kalimdor to Capital City, the resurrected Dar'Khan was already ruling Deatholme.[3] As such, it is possible that the base did exist during Arthas' invasion of Quel'Thalas.

It was sometimes said that Arthas raised Sylvanas Windrunner as a banshee atop an altar inside a dark temple he had created in Quel'Thalas during the Scourge invasion[17][18][19] (in most sources, he raised her on the same spot where he killed her, outside of Silvermoon). This temple was probably Deatholme, since that's where Sylvanas' body was kept.
