Deatholme is a Scourge citadel in the southwestern Ghostlands, marking the beginning of the Dead Scar. It is the major headquarters of the Scourge in Quel'Thalas, on the other side of the hills from the Scourge capital of Stratholme in the Eastern Plaguelands. At its center is the Tower of the Damned, where Dar'Khan Drathir - the traitor who allowed Arthas into Quel'Thalas - resides with the other leaders of the Scourge in the area.
Deatholme is the largest Scourge outpost in the Eastern Kingdoms outside of the greater Plaguelands, and it appears to have several temples, ziggurats and slaughterhouses. The variety of enemies in the area include undead nerubians, banshees, wraiths, and human necromancers with their skeletal minions. Dar'Khan rules this odd assortment from the Tower of the Damned, along with his undead lieutenants - Mirdoran the Fallen, Borgoth the Bloodletter, Jurion the Deceiver, and Masophet the Black.
History
The Scourge citadel was constructed atop the withered roots of Thas'alah, the mother tree of the Eversong Woods which was cut down by the Scourge.[1] Arthas Menethil named the place Deatholme, and the resurrected Dar'Khan Drathir began governing it. The banshee Sylvanas Windrunner overheard Arthas speaking about Deatholme and Dar'Khan, and when he returned from Kalimdor, his power waning, she contemplated Dar'Khan in Deatholme would have her body. As an undead, she and her dark rangers entered the Scourge citadel, and Sylvanas found her body there.[2]
Approximately five years later, Priestess Liadrin scouted the area near Deatholme, watching the Scourge movement. Hoping to kill Dar'Khan outside its walls, she noticed that the undead were actually flowing inside the Scourge citadel.[3]
Blood Knight Dawnstar once led a daring but ultimately unsuccessful assault against the undead base that ended in his demise. The Scourge has since grown bolder and took several Thalassian prisoners, including Apprentice Varnis, Ranger Vedoran and their ally Apothecary Enith.
At some point, Ashra Valandril fought at its gates to avenge a fallen comrade's honor.[4]
After the war against the Jailer, the San'layn Vorath amassed a large number of Scourge under his command.[5] They marched through the Dead Scar and attacked Tranquillien. The sin'dorei, led by Lady Liadrin and her Blood Knights, retaliated and led a counteroffensive against Deatholme. The Blood Knights and a blood elf hero charged at Vorath inside Deathholme, successfully repelled his magics, and managed to kill the san'layn for good.[6]

Notes
- According to a 2006 interview with Jeff Kaplan, Deatholme served as the staging ground where Arthas and his Scourge forces prepared to march through Quel'Thalas to the Sunwell.[7] This is contradicted by Blood of the Highborne, which implies that the citadel was only established in the year 25, 5 years after the Scourge invasion.[3] Sylvanas later contradicted Blood of the Highborne's mention by stating that by the time Arthas returned from Kalimdor to Capital City, the resurrected Dar'Khan was already ruling Deatholme.[2] As such, it is possible that the base did exist during Arthas' invasion of Quel'Thalas.
- Deatholme appears to be an attempt to concentrate the elements of the bordering Eastern Plaguelands - blighted soil, ziggurats and slaughterhouses, and legions of undead, albeit lower-leveled - into one area. Once you enter the gates of Deatholme, the sky also has the same reddish-brown tint found in Eastern Plaguelands.
- [Fallen Knight's Ranseur] next to the body of Blood Knight Dawnstar becomes lootable after completing [60] Blood Knight.

It was sometimes said that Arthas raised Sylvanas Windrunner as a banshee atop an altar inside a dark temple he had created in Quel'Thalas during the Scourge invasion[8][9][10] (in most sources, he raised her on the same spot where he killed her, outside of Silvermoon). This temple was probably Deatholme, since that's where Sylvanas' body was kept.
