Roanauk Icemist is the High Chieftain of the taunka in Northrend.
History
At the time of the war against the Lich King, a fissure into Azjol-Nerub opened near Icemist Village, and Scourge nerubians poured out. The Anub'ar razed Icemist,[3] with the survivors fleeing to the Westwind Refugee Camp.[4] Under the orders of Under-King Anub'et'kan, High Chieftain Roanauk was imprisoned within the ruins of Icemist, held in place by magical keys.[5] In this dark hour, the taunka were discovered Garrosh Hellscream and his orc forces upon their arrival in Northrend.[6]
After the taunka formally joined the Horde,[7] they prepared to strike back against the Anub'ar in order to take back Icemist and free High Chieftain Icemist. While the Horde attacked the Anub'ar by ground and sky to thin their numbers,[8][9] Banthok Icemist set off to the village determined to rescue his father.[10] After acquiring the key, the pair freed the imprisoned High Chieftain, and quickly came under attack by Under-King Anub'et'kan. In a tremendous display of his shamanistic powers, the Roanauk resurrected the bulk of the defenders of the village, allowing them to fight once more against their oppressors. The Under-king was ultimately slain and the taunka retreated to Agmar's Hammer.[11]
With his fellow taunka by his side, High Chieftain Roanauk swore the Blood Oath of the Horde, fully bringing the taunka into the Horde.[12][13]

Quotes
- TCG
- "From this moment, until the end of days I live and die - For the Horde!"[14]
- Thunder Totem gossip
It has been many years since my people swore our loyalty to the Horde.
The Horde aided my people in our time of need, and I am here to speak well of that accord.
The Highmountain tribe is known even to us in the North, and respect must be paid.
Notes and trivia
- During the Legion alpha, Roanauk appeared before Mayla Highmountain along with Baine Bloodhoof and Sunwalker Dezco to ask for help to battle the Burning Legion on the Broken Shore. This was scrapped before the official launch.
- Roanauk is possibly a reference to the Roanoke Colony, the lost British colony on an island off the coast of North Carolina, and the nearby Native American tribe the colony was named after. This could possibly be a reference to the idea that taunka are a forgotten tribe of tauren that colonized Icemist Village in Northrend some time in the distant past.
