The Consortium is a loosely affiliated cartel of ethereal smugglers, traders, and thieves that have come to Outland to benefit from its riches.[1] Led by Nexus-Prince Haramad, their main base of operations is the Stormspire in Netherstorm, but they can also be found in Midrealm Post, at Aeris Landing in Nagrand, within the Mana-Tombs of Auchindoun, and various other places across the broken world. The Consortium is also known to do business in the Hara'samid Sector, on Heraazi, Sodaraami, and the Xarodi Sector.[2]
According to their recruiters, the Consortium is looking for resourceful individuals with loyalty, dedication, and a reasonable amount of moral flexibility.[3] They are well known for taking good care of their friends, who receive gems as payment for their services each month, and whose quality depends on how loyal they've been to the cartel.[4]
They are allied with another ethereal faction, the Protectorate, which was formed in reaction to the obsessive search for vengeance of the Ethereum ruling class against Dimensius the All-Devouring.[5]
Background
The Burning Crusade
In Nagrand, Aeris Landing was established by Gezhe to mine Oshu'gun for the interests of the Consortium. However, their operations were eventually stopped after they were told of Oshu'gun's relation to the naaru, and that Nexus-Prince Haramad didn't wish to proceed until the political situation was resolved.[6] Being so close to Oshu'gun, their agents were threatened by voidspawns and the rogue ethereals in the area,[7] leading Gezhe to resort to getting other materials and protection from the adventurers.[8][9]
In the Mana-Tombs of Auchindoun, adventurers were tasked by Artificer Morphalius to kill Nexus-Prince Shaffar and his forces on the orders of Nexus-Prince Haramad.[10][11] The previous day, Morphalius had ventured to the Allerian Stronghold and Stonebreaker Hold, approaching both Eckert and Grek in search of assistance from their factions.[12][13]
At some point, a small goblin contingent traveled to Stormspire, looking for ways to steal parts of the ethereals' eco-dome technology.[14] This caused critical problems to the sustainability of the domes,[15] leading the Consortium to consider locking down their headquarters to outsiders.[16]
At some point, the Zaxxis cut their relationship with the Consortium, going into business for themselves. However, by doing so, they were not tolerated for their actions and were being hunted down by the Consortium. After he was tasked by Nexus-Prince Haramad[17] to deal with this rogue group, Nether-Stalker Khay'ji managed to infiltrate the Zaxxis and took out their leader, or at least he thought, then escaped to Area 52. He later tasked adventurers to kill Zaxxis agents and recover their insignias.[18] After learning that Warp-Raider Nesaad was still alive, Khay'ji sent adventurers to a small ethereal camp near the southwestern corner of The Heap, where they disposed of him accordingly.[19]
As the leader of the Consortium, Nexus-Prince Haramad tasked adventurers to recover the Spirit's Song, one of the seven shards of the Ata'mal crystal, from the Burning Legion. After they killed the nathrezim Culuthas, the adventurers were confronted by an emissary of Prince Kael'thas Sunstrider, Ambassador Solannas, and his bodyguards.[20] The selflessness of the adventurer's act - bringing the crystal to him at the Stormspire despite the immense power it contained - led Haramad to kill the blood elves and order the delivery of the crystal to the naaru A'dal in Shattrath City, breaking their neutrality in favor of the Sha'tar.[21]
Several ethereals made their way into Karazhan to discover its secrets.[22] Among them, Ythyar of the Consortium could be found in the Guardian's Library where he traded with the adventurers.
Mists of Pandaria
By the time of the Alliance-Horde war in Pandaria, Nexus-Prince Haramad had expanded his business to the Black Market Auction House on Azeroth.
Battle for Azeroth
At the time of the Fourth War, a few Consortium arcanists have been hired by the Horde and the Alliance to maintain portals to Shattrath City within the Pathfinder's Den and the Wizard's Sanctum.[23]

The general process for garnering reputation from the Consortium involves completing one-time quest chains which unlock repeatable quests. Some of these important quest chains are unlocked at specific reputation levels, which can make it somewhat confusing to follow. While it is possible to reach Exalted by using only Mana Tombs dungeon runs, that method is limited by the one-per-day heroic lockout.
Starting at Neutral (level 64+)
Nagrand
- Visit a Consortium Recruiter in Nagrand and get
[15-30] The Consortium Needs You!. This is only worth 10 reputation, but is not available if you've completed any other Consortium quests (such as the repeatable ones below).
- Go to Aeris Landing in Nagrand, accept both
[15-30] A Head Full of Ivory (3
[Pair of Ivory Tusks]) and
[15-30] Stealing from Thieves (10
[Oshu'gun Crystal Fragment]). Pick one of these to complete, then complete the repeatable version of the one you picked until you reach friendly (12 total turnins including the first). At that point, turn in the other quest—doing this will provide one additional turnin that would otherwise be unavailable later. The turn-in items are often found cheaply on the Auction House if you want to avoid farming.
- Complete the remaining quests at Aeris Landing.
Mana Tombs
- In Terokkar Forest, visit Eckert at Allerian Stronghold (Alliance:
[15-30D] Eckert the Mad) or Grek at Stonebreaker Hold (Horde:
[15-30D] Grek's Crazy Night).
- Take a normal dungeon run of Mana Tombs to complete all the dungeon quests and gain some reputation from mob kills.
Friendly to Honored (level 67+)
Netherstorm
- At level 67+, complete all the available quests in provided by Consortium NPCs at Area 52, Midrealm Post, and Stormspire.
- At level 68+, complete all the Consortium quests at Tuluman's Landing and Protectorate Watch Post.
- Complete repeatable quests such as
[25-30] Another Heap of Ethereals as necessary to reach Revered.
(Characters trying to simultaneously earn reputation with the Mag'har or Kurenai may want to focus on killing Ogres in Nagrand for [Obsidian Warbeads] to be turned in toward
[15-30] More Obsidian Warbeads Consortium turn-ins. Each ogre kill awards 10 Mag'har or Kurenai reputation. Doing this also nets many
[Oshu'gun Crystal Powder Sample], for
[Halaa Research Token] turn-ins, allowing a player to effectively farm their Nagrand faction rep, Consortium rep, and half of their Halaa tokens all at the same time. The only caveat is the drop rate, which is roughly 33% for the warbeads, while it is 50% on the insignias.)
Revered to Exalted (level 70+)
At level 70, return to Stormspire for [25-30] Seek Out Ameer, then go to Protectorate Watch Post. Complete Commander Ameer's
[25-30] A Mission of Mercy there which allows
[Ethereum Prison Key] to drop from enemy Ethereals and opens the
[25-30G] Ethereum Secrets repeatable. The Keys can sometimes be found cheaply on the Auction Houses, and opening Ethereum Prisons can also net reputation from other Burning Crusade factions.
At Revered, Ameer's offers the [25-30] A Thousand Worlds chain which leads to Bash'ir in Blade's Edge Mountains and opens another pair of repeatable reputation quests.
At this point, once all once-time quests have been completed, the fastest way to reach Exalted is via repeatable quests. Heroic Mana Tombs can also be cleared for reputation, but since it can be completed only once per day, you could choose to clear the trash only (avoiding bosses) and reset the instance.
The "daily dungeon" quests from Wind Trader Zhareem and Nether-Stalker Mah'duun in Lower City provide consortium rep, despite the NPCs not being marked as Consortium members (350 rep for Heroics, 250 for Non-Heroic).
Rewards
Upon reaching Friendly status, players are officially considered members of the Consortium and given a salary. The salary is a bag of gems at the beginning of every month, given by Gezhe at Aeris Landing. Higher reputation with the Consortium yields better and more jewels each month.
