Gorfax Angerfang is an orc warrior and the current chieftain of the Dragonmaw clan. He is initially found in the Wetlands at the Angerfang Encampment, replacing Nek'rosh Skullcrusher's position as a leader in the area, and was described as the chieftain of the Angerfang Dragonmaw by the time of the Cataclysm.

He later took control of the clan after the death of Warlord Zaela, as he represented the Dragonmaw at the prestige ceremony in the Undercity. This is later repeated at the Kosh'harg festival, where he was definitively stated as the clan's chieftain. Unlike those that came before him, he seeks to bring the Dragonmaw back to an honorable future; rather than one laiden with subjugation and slavery.

History

Gorfax and the Angerfang were long-time supporters of Nekros Skullcrusher and his son, Nek'rosh. Gorfax later found this support regretful, leading to nothing but death and dishonor.[1]

Cataclysm

Following the Cataclysm, the Angerfang were led by Gorfax who was described as their "chief". He was later attacked by Alliance adventurers sent by Prospector Whelgar to ensure that the Dragonmaw did not attack them at Whelgar's Retreat.[2]

According to Gorfax, the Angerfang joined Hellscream's Horde alongside the rest of the Dragonmaw clan.[1] It is unknown whether or not any of the group sided with Hellscream during the rise of the True Horde or defected into the Iron Horde.

During the third invasion of the Burning Legion, despite his defeat at the hands of the Alliance adventurers, Gorfax could be found in the Undercity when a Horde adventurer reached Prestige Rank 2. Alongside other notable leaders of the Horde, he was present at the ceremony hosted by Warchief Sylvanas Windrunner who congratulated the adventurer for their battles against the Alliance.[3]

A few years later, Gorfax was present at Azeroth's first Kosh'harg festival, where he stood as chieftain of the Dragonmaw clan. He lamented the fact that Thrall has had a bitter experience concerning his clan. He also told the tale of the sad story of his people, chastising his own hand in supporting Nek'rosh Skullcrusher. He stated their legacy has been stained with enslaving or subjugating another race, typically draconic, and he would like to lead them out of this dark legacy on their own merit. He was vested in this concept; stating that he was willing to redeem the clan, or die trying. Upon orc champions requesting to join the Dragonmaw, Gorfax reaffirmed that it was their wish.[1] He subsequently instructed them to hunt, track, and kill Gor'krosh, the Long Knives, without their armor, in order to test their skills in battle.[4] Following their success, Gorfax accepted the  ["Long Knife"] as a trophy on behalf of the clan.[5]

As the Kosh'harg festival neared its end, Gorfax cheered orc heroes as the champions of their people.[6]

Speculation

This article or section includes speculation, observations or opinions possibly supported by lore or by Blizzard officials. It should not be taken as representing official lore.
  • Despite being slain during the quest A [10-30] The Angerfang Menace in Cataclysm, Gorfax appears in the Undercity in Battle for Azeroth. It is entirely possible that, rather than the quest being non-canon, Gorfax simply survived the attempt on his life.
  • Since he was described as a chief in Cataclysm, there may have been a splinter in the Dragonmaw at some point as he was alive at the same time as Mor'ghor, who had claimed dominion over the Dragonmaw during his initial appearance. It is worth noting that Mor'ghor's title was Warchief, meaning that Gorfax could still be a subordinate. The title "Sub-Chief" has also been used among orcs, such as the Thunderlord Clan Sub-Chief, which may have been what Gorfax's role was.
