High Warlord Cromush is a Mag'har orc and high ranked commander of the Horde. During the Cataclysm, he was charged by Warchief Garrosh Hellscream to "guard" Sylvanas Windrunner during the invasion of Gilneas. Cromush took this charge without question and appeared to be far more tolerant of the Forsaken than the Frostwolf clan. He later led the Horde offensive against the Stormpike clan in the Hillsbrad Foothills. Years later, he led the defense during the Legion Invasions of Hillsbrad and returned to aid the Horde war effort during the Fourth War.

Biography

Cataclysm

Cromush in the Hillsbrad Foothills.

Following the Cataclysm, High Warlord Cromush came with Warchief Garrosh Hellscream from Orgrimmar to attend the meeting at the Forsaken High Command in Silverpine Forest where Sylvanas Windrunner the Horde leader how the Val'kyr raised the dead into new Forsaken. Both the High Warlord and the Warchief himself were disgusted by this, and to make sure the Forsaken won't be up to any tricks, Garrosh dispensed Cromush to "guard" Sylvanas and report on her.[1]

During the invasion of Gilneas, Cromush accompanied Sylvanas and her forces through the forest - Sepulcher and the Forsaken Front. From the latter, he directed Horde adventurers to kill worgen druids.[2] Following the defeat of the 7th Legion forces near the Greymane Wall, he accompanied Sylvanas to meet with Lord Darius Crowley and Packleader Ivar Bloodfang. When they withdrew their forces, Cromush fought against Lord Vincent Godfrey and his allies when they betrayed the Banshee Queen, making Godfrey and his ilk escape to the nearby Shadowfang Keep. In a moment of panic, Cromush hastily urged the Val'kyr to "fix" Sylvanas, which they did, even though it cost them their lives in the process.[3]

Cromush later found Deathstalker Commander Belmont within Shadowfang Keep, and together with the adventurers they worked to defeat Godfrey. Belmont smoothly attributed the effectiveness of the New Plague the Forsaken forces had been using to clear the keep as little more than a worgen repellent; an excuse Cromush took with a pinch of salt.[4] Godfrey was later able to incapacitate Cromush via poison, leaving Belmont and the adventurers to continue ahead and take revenge.[5]

Cromush was later relocated to Tarren Mill in the Hillsbrad Foothills, eager to put the Forsaken war machine to good use. After the demise of Kingslayer Orkus, Cromush honored his actions for the betterment of a Horde-controlled Lordaeron, and learned of the Stormpike clan's intentions towards it from the plans Orkus had obtained but needed more time to study them further.[6] He asked for the aid of the Frostwolf clan in retaliation,[7] and was shocked when General Drek'Thar completely rejected the notion of aiding the Forsaken. Cromush was greatly dismayed by this turn of events, contemplating whether this refusal was Drek'Thar "forsaking" the Horde, and resolved to defeat the remaining enemies in the region without the aid of the Frostwolves.[8]After studying the plans and spying on the enemy movement,[9] with the help of the adventurer and the banshee Melisara, Cromush brought the destruction of the Stormpike clan in Hillsbrad[10] and was able to bring about an aptly named "Stormpike apocalypse", shattering their presence in Hillsbrad. In the aftermath, he also revealed that the Warchief would learn of Drek'Thar's supposed "treason",[11] though nothing ever came of it.

In time, Cromush accepted the call to arms sent out by the Guardians of Hyjal and came to their aid to defend Sethria's Roost in Mount Hyjal against Ragnaros' forces.[12]

Battle for Azeroth

At the beginning of the Fourth War, Cromush was aboard the Banshee's Wail in Zuldazar. As part of the Horde War Campaign, Lady Sylvanas sent him to assist the Horde with establishing an outpost in Stormsong Valley on Kul Tiras.[13] The initial attack was a failure as Kul Tirans managed to push the Horde out to the sea.[14] Therefore, he sent an adventurer to man the ship's cannon and blast the defending Kul Tiran forces.[15] Afterward, he directed the hero to disembark and find Horde survivors on the ground.[16]

He later commanded the Horde forces throughout Faction Assaults. During the Faction Assault on Nazmir, he was certain that the Alliance could never take Nazmir and would likely get themselves killed by blood trolls, but he preferred to see to their deaths personally.[17] The Faction Assault on Vol'dun caught him off guard, as he never expected the Alliance to push into the region.[18] He also personally called for the destruction of the gunship assaulting Zuldazar.[19] After the Alliance flanked Horde forces and pushed into Warfang Hold during the Assault on Stormsong Valley, Cromush called Horde adventurers to defend the hold and cut off the Alliance retreat.[20] He was eager to hunt the Alliance among the monsters of Drustvar during the Assault on Drustvar.[21] During the Assault on Tiragarde Sound, he recognized the area as the most heavily fortified Alliance stronghold on the continent.[22]

A few years after the Fourth War, Cromush participated in Azeroth's first Kosh'harg festival. There, he stated he felt out of place, and that he'd rather be leading the orcs in attendance into battle rather than partying.[23]

He later warmed up to the event, admitting that it does feel good to reunite with other orcs.[24] During the festival, it was also shown that Cromush is a part of the Blackrock clan, as he sat at the clan table alongside Thura, Ariok, and his chieftain Eitrigg.

Notes and trivia

  • In Hyjal, he rides a wolf and a wyvern.
  • When found in Tarren Mill, Cromush has a tremendous amount of a health and boasts a large amount of damage. This is likely an anti-gank precaution for the safety of the Mill's inhabitants, as the regions around Tarren Mill and Southshore were once hotspots for player killing.
  • Cromush appears to be sporting a full Wrathful Gladiator's Battlegear set, and wields a  [High Warlord's Pig Sticker].
  • An unused NPC representing Cromush is situated in the same ID range as other legendary warriors presumably meant to appear in Skyhold. He and most of these NPCs didn't make it out of the Legion alpha stage.
