The Stonespires are a family[1] of tauren that lived in the southern Barrens.
History
World of Warcraft
According to Gann Stonespire, the region that surrounds what is now Bael Modan was previously a home and provider to his tribe and other tauren. Many of them were forced off their ancestral lands when the Bael'dun dwarves began their operations in the region. After failed attempts at diplomatic relations with the dwarves, Gann sends a Horde adventurer to retaliate against the dwarves.[2] After killing Prospector Khazgorm and taking his journal, Gann and his ally devised a plan to get back at the dwarves in their own fashion by stealing some of their supplies to create a bomb.[3][4] This charge was detonated against Bael Modan's flying machine, vindicating Gann and his tribe.[5]
Auld Stonespire, another member of the family, sends adventurers to kill Charlga Razorflank in vengeance for the crimes of the Razorfen tribe driving the tauren off of their holy land.[6]
Cataclysm
During the Alliance offensive against the Horde settlements in the Barrens, Camp Taurajo was destroyed, and other areas occupied by the Alliance military. Gann, incensed by the violence, went rogue alongside several other tauren, forming the Spearhead camp.[7] During one of their raids, Gann was wounded, though they managed to sneak in a goblin saboteur named Weezil Slipshadow. Gann sent a Horde adventurer to find Weezil and aid him in sabotaging Bael Modan.[8] After sabotaging the artiliery shells, the keep was destroyed -- killing Weezil in the process. By the time the adventurer returned, Gann's wounds had turned fatal, though he was pleased to find that their mission had succeeded.[9] With Gann dying, the adventurer was sent by Nato Raintree with the bullet that had killed him to notify Alto Stonespire, one of his relatives.[10]
Auld Stonespire returns in Razorfen Kraul, though his attitudes towards the quilboar are more towards saving them than exterminating them. He sent adventurers to kill numerous quilboar leaders and targets, contact the spirit of the Wild God Agamaggan, and ultimately take down Charlga Razorflank in hopes of one day redeeming the misled quilboar.[11][12][13][14]

While in Classic, Gann Stonespire makes note of the lands of Bael Modan belonging to 'his tribe' -- the tribe is never actually given a name, only stated as 'the lost tribe'. In Cataclysm, 'tribal elders' are mentioned by Tomusa as being unable to staunch Gann's vengeance, inferring that Gann is part of some form of tribe still despite his statements in Classic. Furthering the issue, Alto Stonespire is referenced as a member of his family, with Gann stated as 'their youngest warrior' -- inferring there are others beyond the aforementioned list. As such, it is unknown if the notion of the Stonespire family being part of a 'lost tribe' is still canon, or if they have been retconned into a family.
