The Windtotem encampment in Mulgore.

In the aftermath of the Third War, the Windtotems led by Bovan Windtotem dwelt within a small camp in Mulgore.

During the Invasion of Durotar, they were approached by Rexxar and his group who asked Bovan to help him locate Baine Bloodhoof. Using his mystical powers, Bovan located Khiragg's centaur encampment and the imprisoned Baine. The tauren then joined Rexxar, fought their way to the encampment, resurrecting deceased tauren warriors along the way. They successfully rescued Baine.[3]

Dragonflight This section concerns content related to Dragonflight.

Sometime after the awakening of the Dragon Isles, Bovan received visions of the Windtotem traveling to a faraway land. Believing that the visions came from the Wild God Ohn'ahra, the tribe made the decision to travel to the Ohn'ahran Plains. Prior to heading to the Dragon Isles, Bovan shared his vision with Baine and the other tauren at Thunder Bluff, gaining recruits along the way. However, as the Windtotem traversed the plains, attacked by forces of Clan Nokhud and the Primalists, who were convinced that the Windtotem were druids seeking to aid the green dragonflight.[4]

While Bovan and other tauren found themselves taken prisoner in the Shikaar Highlands, Tagar Bloodhoof was able to lead the survivors to Toghusuq Village. In Bovan's absence, he took up leadership of the tauren and barred any centaur entry into the village, a fact that outraged Scout Tomul, who was aiding Baine Bloodhoof in his search for Bovan. However, Tagar defended this decision by citing that every centaur they had met within the plains had sought to harm them, and thus in these times they had to act with an abundance of caution. To that end, he also warned Baine to be careful in trusting Tomul.[2]

After revealing himself as the leader of the Windtotem, Bovan was taken to Nokhudon Hold.[5] A fact learned by Baine, Tomul, and adventurers as rescued the captured Windtotem within the Shikaar Highlands.[6] Determined to save Bovan, Baine and the adventurer rushed to Nokhudon Hold, only to discover that he was too late; Bovan had been slain.[7] After discovering Bovan's body, Baine, in his grief and rage, attacked the centaur and personally avenged Bovan by killing Jamoku.[8]

In the aftermath, Bovan's body was recovered and taken to Toghusuq Village, where the Windtotem and Maruuk Centaur held a joint funeral for their shared fallen. While some Windtotem were willing to give peace with the Maruuk a chance, others were more wary and pessimistic about the matter.[9]

As the tauren began rebuilding Toghusuq Village, they were approached by Boku, who formally invited the tauren to remain in the plains. Tagar responded that it was not his decision but the Windtotems' to decide when they were ready.
