“The League of Arathor has sworn to retake Arathi for humans of Stromgarde and the Alliance. It is a battle hard fought, but a battle worth fighting.”

Field Marshal Oslight

The League of Arathor (or just The League)[2] is an Alliance faction, which was formed from the remaining military forces of the kingdom of Stromgarde[3] after the Third War. They are locked in battle with the Forsaken Defilers over control of Arathi Basin. They are based out of Refuge Pointe in the Arathi Highlands, and Trollbane Hall in the Arathi Basin. Since the Alliance sorely needs the Arathi Basin's resources to keep large armies fighting on the front lines; notably weapons, armors, metals, food, lumber, and more mundane supplies, it is the duty of the League of Arathor to see that they receive their shipments.[4]

The League uses a golden sigil representing the Empire of Arathor as their symbol.[4]

History

World of Warcraft

WoW Icon update.png This section concerns content related to the original World of Warcraft.

Following the Third War and fall of Stromgarde, the League of Arathor fought the Forsaken Defilers for control of Arathi Basin, intending to retake the area for the people of Stromgarde[5] and claim its resources to profit their benefactors in Stormwind—and, through them, the whole of the Alliance.[1][3]

The League sent their emissaries to the largest Alliance cities - Stormwind City, Exodar, Darnassus, Ironforge, and also Shattrath City to recruit adventurers during the monthly Call to Arms: Arathi Basin.

As the battle for Arathi Basin is a battle for resources and territory, supplying the League's forces with raw materials and supplies, Field Marshal Oslight tasked Alliance adventurers to conquer the key points across the region.[6] In time, those who managed to conquer four bases at the same time became local heroes among the league's soldiers.[7] When the League wished to make one strong push against the Defilers' occupation, the adventurers had to control all the bases, and if successful, the League of Arathor held them in high esteem and offered them the tabard of the organization.[2]

When the League of Arathor and the Alliance intended on expanding their hold from Refuge Point to retake the Arathi Highlands, Deathstalker Mortis tasked Horde adventurers to stop them by taking their supplies.[8] At the same time, Sergeant Maclear tasked the adventurers to recover crates of equipment from the basin, in order to ensure that their troops did not lack equipment or food.[9]

In order to reward those dedicated to the cause of the League of Arathor, Samuel Hawke offered on several occasions care packages containing rations and bandages usable on the battlefield.[10][11][12]

The Burning Crusade

During the invasion of Outland, Adam Eternum traveled to the ravaged world hoping to discover powerful artifacts to assist the League against the Defilers, but found nothing interesting.[13]

Battle for Azeroth

Battle for Azeroth This section concerns content related to Battle for Azeroth.

At the time of the Fourth War, the League of Arathor played an active part during the Battle for Stromgarde, commanded by Danath Trollbane,[14] who was personally guarded by Stromgarde Knights wearing the league's tabard. With Stromgarde's restoration, Captain Nials was placed in charge of defending Valorcall Pass, and Knights of Arathor patrolled the region, summoning soldiers and riflemen to defend the pass.

When Stromgarde Keep temporarily fell to the Horde, the League operated at Dabyrie's Farmstead under the lead of Knight-Captain Aldrin.[15] Consequently, Druza Netherfang and Nathanos Blightcaller sent their agents to drive them off the farm.[16][17]

Reputation

A typical Arathor Defender wearing the  [Arathor Battle Tabard].

Reputation is gained through participation in the Arathi Basin battleground. When you fight in Arathi Basin you earn 16 reputation each 260 resources (=6 ticks per win). On Arathi Basin holiday weekends the required resources is reduced to 200 (=8 ticks per win). Thus granting 96 rep per won Arathi Basin battle and 128 rep on holiday weekends.

Rewards

Rewards no longer require specific reputation levels since patch 2.0.1. Before Mists of Pandaria, Field Marshal Onslight would offer players who had reached Exalted with League of Arathor a quest called "Control Five Bases". Upon completion of this quest (5 bases had to be captured, not just assaulted), they were rewarded with the " [Arathor Battle Tabard]". Nowadays you simply buy the tabard for 10 Mark of Honor.

Players that have exalted with League of Arathor, Silverwing Sentinels, and Stormpike Guard receive the title of Justicar.
