House Stormsong is one of the four noble houses that rule Kul Tiras. Their seat is the Shrine of the Storm, in the region of Stormsong Valley. It takes a role in the construction of the country's navy.[1]

The Tidesages serve House Stormsong. Following the downfall of Lord Colm Stormsong, the family appears to be led by his nephew, Lord Brannon, who is working arm in arm with the Storm's Wake and deferring to Brother Pike.

History

Ancient history

2,500 years BDP, members of House Stormsong helped lead the early founders of Kul Tiras to the archipelago. Originating in Gilneas, those that would become House Stormsong left Gilneas to find a 'greater existence'. This led them to the sea, which at first was enough for many, though some still continued to search for that greater existence. Life at sea was harsh, taking lives, but providing sustenance at the same time. At some point, the head of House Stormsong came in touch with a voice that spoke to him and came to be known as the Tidemother.

The voices taught the members of House Stormsong to use the elements to their will- to call to the ocean depths to fill their nets, to call the wind to their sails, and to calm the ocean waves. Eventually, the Tidemother's whispers guided them to their new home in what became known as Kul Tiras. House Stormsong and the nascent Tidesages would aid in leading people to Kul Tiras, with House Stormsong claiming the northernmost region as their own. Naming it Stormsong Valley, in honor of the man that had led them there, the travellers at last felt they had reached the place they had been searching for.[2]

Due to the occupation of Kul Tiras by the Drust, House Stormsong would have been one of the many groups embroiled in the vicious war with the Drust that would later leave humanity as the rulers of Kul Tiras.[3]

Battle for Azeroth

Several months prior to the Fourth War, Lord Colm Stormsong and his followers noticed a change in the voice of the Tidemother. Lord Stormsong had become bitter about the ruling elite in Boralus and had begun to isolate himself. A master of water magic,[4] the voices within the depths began to prey on him. He ultimately claimed that he sought to take control of the shattered Kul Tiras and restore it to its former glory, seeing the elite of Boralus as haughty folk who give nothing in return for his people's work. Colm withdrew from the rest of Kul Tiras in the months preceding the arrival of the Alliance due to his growing disdain for the elite of Boralus. With his withdrawal went the Tidesages that followed him.[3]

At this time, Colm's nephew, Lord Brannon, led Anglepoint Wharf in Tiragarde Sound after he was placed there by his uncle so he could acquire some leadership experience.[5] Keegan Alby was his bodyguard. When the workers became corrupted by the dark forces of the sea, because they did not approve of how Brannon ran things,[6] Brannon received the help of the Alliance adventurers to solve the problem. Afterward, he left for Stormsong Valley to speak with his uncle in the hope that he and the Tidesages would know more about the dark magic that had afflicted Anglepoint.[7] Unfortunately, Brannon was unaware that his uncle was behind the very corruption he had just faced.

In his eyes, Kul Tiras would forever belong to the people and the Tidesages will guide them.[8] Taelia Fordragon led an effort against Lord Stormsong and his cultists, including Wavespeaker Reid,[9] across Stormsong Valley with the help of the Alliance emissary, Brother Pike, and Samuel Williams. Those uncorrupted within Stormsong Valley formed the Storm's Wake, still baring the heraldry of House Stormsong, which then boasted menacing purple banners with krakens upon them.

Confronted at the Shrine of the Storm, Lord Stormsong killed Pyke's militiamen and corrupted Samuel who was transformed into Azshj'thul the Drowned, before teleporting away and revealting the truth: Lord Stormsong fell under the sway of Queen Azshara[10] and her master.

When confronted by the Alliance ambassadors, he revealed that he knew the location of the missing Kul Tiran fleet, and had purposefully been shrouding it in darkness so that it could eventually be brought under the control of Azshara and the Old Gods. On the orders of Brother Pike,[11] Alliance heroes entered the Shrine of the Storm, where they found Lord Stormsong as a k'thir. They eventually defeated him as well as Vol'zith the Whisperer, one of the sources of corruption within the shrine.[12]

With the shrine purified and Colm dead, the Valley was able to rejoin the rest of Kul Tiras under the Storm's Wake. Lord Brannon Stormsong, now in league with the Storm's Wake, began to represent his house. He was present at the ceremony in Boralus as the representative of his house, where Jaina Proudmoore became the new Lord Admiral of Kul Tiras,[13] and afterward could be found in Unity Square being lectured by Stormsong Aldermen.

Notes and trivia

  • The Brineworks supplies most of House Stormsong's weapons.[14]
  • House Stormsong also commanded The Abyssal Melody battleship and its sister ship.
  • Lord Colm was known as a very kind person before the whispers took him.[15]
  • During development, the placeholder name for House Stormsong was "NorthHouse".
  • In the quest A [30-60] Eye of the Storm, Tideguard Victoria erroneously states that Colm Stormsong's father was the one who led them into the valley; meaning it was a few decades ago.[2] This is impossible for numerous reasons.
    • The  [Legends of the Tidesages] state that it was the first Lord Stormsong who led Gilneans to Kul Tiras over 2,000 years ago after hearing the whispers of the Tidemother, having taken the "fertile valley in the northern reaches".
    • World of Warcraft: Chronicle Volume 4 establishes that the Drust once ruled over all of Kul Tiras, including Stormsong Valley. As the Kul Tirans would later root out the Drust from all of Kul Tiras, they would have had to know of the existence of the valley.[16]
    • Perhaps most importantly, the valley also takes up over a third of Kul Tiras' landmass and is in complete plain view from the coast, making it nonsensical that the Kul Tirans would have established themselves upon the isle for thousands of years and never ventured to an extremely minor distance north of their own capital city.
