The Silver Covenant is a militant faction of high elves founded and led by Ranger-General Vereesa Windrunner. They rejected the admission of the blood elves into the Kirin Tor, and have taken it upon themselves to serve as a military deterrent for any potential Horde uprising in Dalaran City. The Horde equivalent of the Silver Covenant are the Sunreavers.

During the war against the Lich King, they joined the ranks of the Alliance Vanguard and the 7th Legion, as part of the Valiance Expedition in Northrend. The Silver Covenant later answered the call of Quel'Thalas to halt the growing threat of the Amani Empire. After Jaina Proudmoore succeeded Rhonin, the Covenant managed to temporarily expel the Sunreavers from the city during the Purge of Dalaran, however, the latter ended up being reinstated during the third invasion of the Burning Legion. The Silver Covenant then pledged itself to the cause of the Unseen Path to repel the demonic invaders.

A few years later, the Silver Covenant defended Dalaran from the Kaheti nerubians' attack, until they had to be evacuated on the Isle of Dorn when Xal'atath destroyed the magical city.

Background

As the Kirin Tor proclaimed themselves neutral in the conflict between the Horde and the Alliance, they instead sought to help bridge the gaps, starting with reaching out to Quel'Thalas for magical support against the Dragon Aspect Malygos.[1] Their elven members eventually underwent something of a split. Those converted to the blood elven philosophy took up the name "the Sunreavers", named for their leader, Aethas Sunreaver, the only non-human on the Council of Six at the time who ensured the Horde a sanctuary within the city. Conversely, the high elves who opposed letting the sin'dorei back into the Kirin Tor formed the Silver Covenant, as a precaution against possible treachery from the Sunreavers.[2] The Silver Enclave became their base of operations, however, since their leader Vereesa Windrunner held no political sway within the city, the blood elves were officially readmitted as members of the Kirin Tor.[3]

The Silver Enclave, the Alliance-district of Dalaran.

During the war against the Lich King in 27 ADP, the Silver Covenant controlled the Alliance-exclusive district of the Silver Enclave in Dalaran, where they employed guardian mages to expel Horde adventurers once they get too close to the Enclave's outer walls. The organization wasn't delighted having the Horde in Dalaran, with Overlord Garrosh Hellscream leading the charge in Northrend, and so they aligned themselves with the Alliance[2] as part of the Alliance Vanguard.

Some joined the ranks of the 7th Legion as battle mages, with Vas the Unstable as their representative, and were stationed in the arcane sanctum of Wintergarde Keep. Meanwhile, Scout Captain Daelin and the Covenant took control of the Windrunner's Overlook in Crystalsong Forest, with their troops patrolling around the outpost.

During the Argent Tournament, Arcanist Taelis acted as the Silver Covenant's representative from the Silver Covenant Pavilion, enrolling and training the Alliance heroes for the tournament trials.[4] When the Argent Crusade asked the Silver Covenant to help look after and train the creatures intended for the coliseum, Savinia Loresong oversaw the care and gave tasks to Alliance heroes regarding obtaining food or snobold companions for Gormok the Impaler.[5][6][7] Within the Crusaders' Coliseum, Arelas Brightstar acted as the herald for the trials faced by the Alliance adventurers, until he was killed and raised into undeath by The Black Knight, an agent of the Lich King sent to disrupt the tournament.

On the Sea Reaver's Run, the strait between Northrend and an island called Hrothgar's Landing, the Covenant sailed their ships The Silver Blade and The Wavecrest, while the Sunreavers sailed The Crimson Dawn and The Firehawk. The ships fought against the kvaldir back from Icecrown's main shore, and with the help of adventurers,[8] they had to slay the kraken summoned against them.[9] Narasi Snowdawn also tasked heroes with freeing Kul the Reckless and his aspirants,[10] aiding Captain Elleane Wavecrest,[11] killing kvaldir at the Landing,[12] and recovering stolen supplies of food.[13] She also lent them Paletress's prayer book in order to release the fallen tuskarr' spirits from the mist-shrouded area and help them find peace.[14]

When the Ashen Verdict marched upon Icecrown Citadel, Blood-Queen Lana'thel of the San'layn defiled the Prismatic Blade Quel'Delar, leading Caladis Brightspear to vow that the Silver Covenant would return it to its former glory. The process took the Alliance adventurers to distant places such as the Halls of Reflection,[15] the Sunwell[16] and Dalaran.[17] Once the sword was reforged and cleansed, it became a symbol of their resolve to defeat the Lich King.[18]

Cataclysm

Cataclysm This section concerns content related to Cataclysm.

Following the Cataclysm in 28 ADP, against the wishes of Silvermoon's Regent-Lord Lor'themar Theron, Vereesa Windrunner and the Silver Covenant were invited by Ranger-General of Silvermoon Halduron Brightwing to join forces with Vol'jin of the Darkspear tribe against the budding Amani Empire within Zul'Aman. While their presence was not well received in the upper echelons of Silvermoon, Vereesa declared that Quel'Thalas was as much her home as it is theirs, and that she would not see it fall to their ancient enemy. To end the debate, Halduron stated that his role as Quel'Thalas' ranger-general permitted him to seek aid wherever needed to keep his homeland safe.[19]

Silver Covenant agents arresting a blood elf citizen during the Purge of Dalaran.

During the Purge of Dalaran in 30 ADP, Vereesa supported the Kirin Tor and Alliance forces to remove the Horde from Dalaran after Jaina Proudmoore discovered that Sunreavers helped Garrosh Hellscream steal the Divine Bell, using Dalaran portals to infiltrate Darnassus. While Jaina rounded up the Sunreavers who surrendered peacefully, Vereesa sent Alliance agents to prevent the Sunreavers from escaping and neutralize any Horde insurrections or Sunreaver sympathizers who were aiding and abetting their resistance to incarceration.[21] She notably ordered them to kill any defiant Sunreavers in the Sunreaver's Sanctuary[22] and the Underbelly,[23] as well as the shopkeepers in Magus Commerce Exchange who didn't side with the Silver Covenant.[24] Soon after, the Covenant came under attack by Grand Magister Rommath, whose assault on the city included undoing much of the Silver Covenant's attacks underground, in Krasus' Landing, and in the (now Alliance-controlled) Sunreaver's Sanctuary. With her orders carried out, Vereesa and the Silver Covenant went on to handle the rest of the purge, while Jaina and the adventurer met with King Varian Wrynn in Lion's Landing.[25]

The Silver Covenant was later seen supporting the Kirin Tor Offensive, using arcane golems,[26] as they vied for control over the Isle of Thunder. Among their agents, Narasi Snowdawn was entrusted with halting the efforts of the Shan'ze mogu at the Court of Bones,[27] and tasked the heroes sent by Vereesa to thin the mogu numbers[28] and to free elven scouts, no matter what faction they belonged to.[29]

Upon recognizing that the weaker Zandalari trolls were being sacrificed to empower troll golems, Miura Brightweaver provided a crystal to the adventurer who brought it filled with Zandalari souls that she wanted to study further.[30] To disrupt the Zandalari war machine at the Beast Pens, she later requested to kill Loa Speakers[31] and ritualists to free mind-controlled beasts.[32] The last location she had assignments in were the Lightning Vein Mines operated by mogu, where asked to destroy its lightning drills, kill the leader of the operation Metal Lord Mono-Han,[33] and rescue Kirin Tor agents held captive there.[34]

Legion

During the third invasion of the Burning Legion in 32 ADP, the Unseen Path held a campfire meeting at the Trueshot Lodge, where hunters from all over Azeroth gathered to pledge themselves to the Huntmaster, including the Silver Covenant.[35] As members of the order, Vereesa Windrunner and several Silver Covenant Archer participated in the defeat of Hakkar the Houndmaster in the Violet Hold of Dalaran.[36]

During the Nightfallen rebellion, along with Tyrande Whisperwind and her Sentinels, Vereesa led a group of Silver Covenant warmages to support the Nightfallen rebels in their attempt to reclaim Suramar City.[37] The allied forces eventually fought their way to the foot of the Nighthold itself, where they were confronted by Grand Magistrix Elisande who trapped the entire elven army, the Silver Covenant included, in a time stasis.[38] They were later freed after Elisande was defeated by the adventurers.

Some of Silver Covenant war priests were later seen fighting demons during the Legion Assaults in Azsuna and Val'sharah.

During the Scourge resurgence in 35 ADP, Justicar Mariel Trueheart called on the Silver Covenant to stand against the undead at he Argent Tournament Grounds.[39] At the request of the Argent Crusade, the Covenant also had to welcome the Alliance adventurers and ensure that each of them was fully aware of the risks involved in being here.[40] Following the death of Herald Dalora, a Silver Covenant Arcanist opened a direct portal to Stormwind City, connecting the pavilion with the Alliance capital.[41]

Following the war against the Jailer in 36 ADP, the Bronzebeard brothers reported that Windrunner's Overlook is still the outpost of the Silver Covenant in Northrend, even after Dalaran moved years ago. According to Muradin Bronzebeard, while the Sunreavers may be back in the Kirin Tor, the Covenant was still watching them like hawks.[2]

In Year 42 ADP, when Xal'atath and the Kaheti nerubians invaded Dalaran, the Silver Covenant defended the city and its citizens alongside the Sunreavers and the Kirin Tor.[42] Those who survived the destruction of the city fought to protect both the wounded and helpless from the nerubians when they were marooned on the Isle of Dorn.[43] It was later revealed that Vereesa had moved away from Dalaran a few years prior and was not present when it was attacked.[44] The Silver Covenant agents were later seen patrolling Dornogal alongside Oathsworn Peacekeepers. The survivors were among those who answered Aethas Sunreaver's recall to the Tranquil Strand, with Silver Covenant Spellcasters taking part in the mages' ceremony to bid farewell to Dalaran and honor those who lost their lives when the city crashed.[45]

Guide

Before patch 3.1, there was no way to gain reputation with the Silver Covenant. However, as they are the Alliance's host of the Argent Tournament, reputation can be gained through many quests. Another way of gaining reputation with them is spillover from the Alliance Vanguard and its associated factions (usually by running heroics without a tabard). You will get an average of 7 rep per mob and 125 per boss.
