“The Bloodfang will hunt the Forsaken into extinction.”

— Ivar Bloodfang

Packleader Ivar Bloodfang is a worgen and the leader of the Bloodfang pack of Silverpine Forest. Although clever and willing to form alliances with others, he doesn't hesitate to use violence, brutality, and desperate measures to get what he wants. When he witnessed Lord Darius Crowley's decision to retreat his troops from Silverpine Forest to save his daughter, Ivar was no longer impressed with him, but he still assisted the Alliance in the Hillsbrad Foothills and during the events of the Fourth War. He considers the Forsaken his blood enemies.[2]

Ivar Bloodfang in Gilneas.

Following the invasion of Gilneas, Ivar worked with Lord Darius Crowley to an unknown capacity. He blamed Crowley and Genn Greymane for abandoning his people to die beyond the Greymane Wall, and also blamed the king of Gilneas for, what he perceived, as making Crowley soft. On the outside of the battles in Silverpine Forest, a Horde adventurer witnessed Ivar make an alliance with Darius Crowley.[3]

After their meeting, he and Crowley launched a mass of sneak attacks and ambushes on the forces of Sylvanas Windrunner, at one point even killing part of her elite guard and almost killing the Horde adventurer along with them.[4] At some point, he followed Darius to Fenris Isle to convert the Refugee Leadership into worgen.[5] He and his pack later aided Crowley in distributing blood to the rest of the humans who had accepted the pact, turning them into Hillsbrad Worgen, and the Forsaken believed them to have made their blood offering to every surviving human in Lordaeron.[6]

When Sylvanas captured Lorna Crowley and used her as a bargaining chip with Darius, Ivar was shocked at his immediate retreat and surrender, going so far as to call him a miserable bastard[7] before leading his pack back into the contested Gilneas. Following the retreat, he was very close to being a feral worgen.[2] Despite Ivar's original apprehension about joining forces with Gilneas, the Bloodfang still assisted the Alliance even after the order was given to abandon and retreat from Silverpine Forest.[2] The Bloodfang pack later continued to oppose the Forsaken in Hillsbrad Foothills where they have allied with the Stormpike Guard. Both sides jointly claimed Purgation Isle and attacked the Forsaken stationed at the Ruins of Southshore.[8][9]

Following the Stormpike Apocalypse, Ivar was encountered in Shadowfang Keep where he directed his worgen and the Alliance adventurers in hunting the traitorous Lord Godfrey and his underlings, Baron Ashbury[10] and Lord Walden.[11] Once in front of Godfrey's chamber, Ivar was surprised to find the door closed since his pack should have already taken care of the traitor. During the battle, Godfrey mockingly revealed that he had slaughtered all the worgen sent to kill him. After the victory, Ivar thought to use Shadowfang Keep as a home for his pack, though they tend to prefer more natural habitats, but ultimately decided to leave it as a reminder of Godfrey's betrayal and of the Bloodfang warriors that died here in battle.[12]

During the Fourth War, Ivar lent forth Bloodfang Stalkers to aid with the Alliance war effort in the name of Gilneas. After Alliance champions defeated Deathstalker Hayward, the pack re-mobilized back into Silverpine Forest and claimed Fenris Isle.[13] Consequently, the Horde proceeded to distract the Bloodfang forces, encountering Ivar, in order to allow their refugees to escape Tirisfal across the lake.[14]

During the Battle for Darkshore, Packleader Ivar traveled to Darkshore with some of his pack, aiding once again Gilneas and the kaldorei to fight the Forsaken.

Exploring Azeroth

Following the Fourth War, Mathias Shaw and Flynn Fairwind embarked on their journey to explore Azeroth as well as catalog the locations of various artifacts, and eventually visited Silverpine Forest. Shaw noted his main contact in the area as Ivar Bloodfang, stating that the packleader was his contact within Shadowfang Keep. The pack had apparently claimed it, alongside Fenris Isle, and had taken most of the artifacts within the Shadowfang to Fenris Keep to be guarded closely.[15]

Notes and trivia

Ivar in the beta of Cataclysm.
  • H [5-30] Seek and Destroy refers to him as Ivus Bloodfang, likely a mistake.
  • In the beta, he used a more generic-looking feral worgen model. This was changed, giving him different fur, face selection, and a unique unobtainable set of armor to differentiate him from the rest of the Bloodfang.

Speculation

Questionmark-medium.png
This article or section includes speculation, observations or opinions possibly supported by lore or by Blizzard officials. It should not be taken as representing official lore.
  • Given that Ivar came from Silverpine Forest alongside the rest of his pack, and that he knew and blamed Crowley for abandoning him; it's likely that Ivar and his men were once part of, or supporters of, the Northgate rebels. This would make sense, as Crowley previously lorded over the lands north of the wall; meaning that they would have been working with him as their lord.
  • He may be the former owner of the Ivar Patch in Silverpine Forest, considering Ivar the Foul was removed and thus possibly retconned.
  • He may be related to Renthal Bloodfang.
  • He may have participated in the Bloodfang attack on Gilneas, as he remembered what Baron Ashbury smelled like as a human.[16] Alternatively, as previously mentioned, he may have met Baron Ashbury during his time with Crowley before becoming a worgen.
