“Through the valleys and peaks of Mount Hyjal, across the shifting sands of Silithus, against the Legion's dread armies - we have fought. We are the nameless, faceless, sons and daughters of the Alliance. By the Light and by the might of the Alliance, the first strike belongs to us and the last strike is all that our enemies see.
We are 7th Legion.”
The 7th Legion is an elite special operations regiment composed of the Alliance's most seasoned veteran fighters. Initially serving behind the scenes, the Legion became the face of the Alliance military during the Fourth War, leading Alliance incursions into Zandalar. Before this campaign as well as after, they have participated in almost every major offensive and engagement the Alliance has been involved in.[1] They fulfill a similar role to the Horde's Kor'kron Guard; the two have frequently crossed blades during the various conflicts between the Alliance and Horde, including in Northrend and Pandaria.
Their troops are equipped with the best technology the Alliance can provide. They are often seen using gunships, submarines, guns, cannons, ground support weapons such as chain guns and harpoon guns, and more recently, they employed warframes, bombers and siege tanks on the battlefield. The 7th Fleet is one of the Alliance navy's fleets belonging to the 7th Legion.[2]
History
Third War
The 7th Legion has been known to have participated in the Battle of Mount Hyjal during the Third War, and later in battles against both the Horde and the Burning Legion.[3]
World of Warcraft
During the Ahn'Qiraj War, the 7th Legion was part of the Might of Kalimdor in Silithus.[3] Highlord Leoric Von Zeldig, Lynore Windstryke, and Duke August Foehammer were all commanders of the combined Alliance-Horde army, raised in opposition to the growing threat from Ahn'Qiraj, and could be found with Supreme Commander Varok Saurfang and the other leaders at Cenarion Hold.
Wrath of the Lich King
During the war against the Lich King, the 7th Legion joined forces with Highlord Bolvar Fordragon's forces in Northrend, and have been running special operations against the Scourge in order to secure a foothold in the Dragonblight. They were stationed at Wintergarde Keep under the command of High Commander Halford Wyrmbane, from where they fought against the undead legions of Naxxramas. High elven members of the Silver Covenant also joined the 7th Legion as battle mages, with Vas the Unstable as their representative, and were stationed in the arcane sanctum of Wintergarde Keep.
At some point, High Commander Halford discovered spies of the Cult of the Damned among his troops and had them hanged at the entrance of Wintergarde Keep to serve as ghoul baits.[4] After the Alliance adventurers rescued the remaining citizens from the Carrion Fields,[5] Halford sent them to meet Cavalier Durkon, one of his soldiers he had sent to investigate Wintergarde Crypt, from where the undead kept coming to attack the keep.[6]
After Necrolord Amarion was eliminated and his tome returned to Halford, the latter redirected the adventurers to help Inquisitor Hallard interrogate Mayor Godfrey Goodard, now a ghoul in the service of the Scourge, so that he could reveal his masters' plans and the content in the book.[7] Once they learned about the Wintergarde Mausoleum, the high commander dispatched Duke August Foehammer and Ambo Cash at the 7th Legion Front in preparation for their next assault against the undead.[8] After Legion Commander Tyralion and the heroes came into possession of Thel'zan the Duskbringer's phylactery, the lich leading the Scourge forces in the area,[9] Halford sent his men to support the adventurers and Lord Bolvar to defeat Thel'zan.[10][11]
Off the coast of Northrend, High Commander Halford led the 7th Legion on the Isle of Conquest, where they fought Kor'kron warriors under the command of Overlord Agmar.
During the final battle against the Lich King, while the forces of the Ashen Verdict fought through Icecrown Citadel, the 7th Legion and the Kor'kron engaged in an aerial battle outside, using the Skybreaker and Orgrim's Hammer respectively.
Cataclysm
Following the Cataclysm, High Commander Halford led the 7th Legion forces into the Ruins of Gilneas, supporting the Gilneas Liberation Front against the Forsaken in order to regain the kingdom for the Alliance. On their arrival, they discovered a large Horde fleet, and to clear the way for the bulk of their troops, the 7th Legion used gnomish submarines to covertly blow up the Horde's ships.[12][13]
A vanguard force under the lead of Master Sergeant Pietro Zaren later infiltrated Gilneas City using submarines, liberated it from Forsaken control, and made the Cathedral Quarter courtyard their base of operations. Meanwhile, High Commander Halford worked with Lord Darius Crowley's worgen in order to advance into enemy territories, destroying all their outposts and lines of communication in the process.[14][15] The 7th Legion's plan was to allow troops to attack the Forsaken Forward Command once King Varian Wrynn's armada of warships arrived on the shores of Gilneas.[16] Once ready, the combined forces of the Gilneas Liberation Front, the Bloodfang pack, and the 7th Legion, crushed the last true foothold the Forsaken had in Gilneas,[17] and Halford was later seen on the deck of the X-2 Pincer submarine with his men when the rest of the Alliance fleet arrived.[18]
When the Alliance continued its advance towards Silverpine Forest, a large number of 7th Legion troops decimated almost all of the Forsaken forces occupying Pyrewood Village. The forces employed were exclusively non-human, a clever tactic to prevent the Val'kyr from bringing them back as undead. Soon after, Horde adventurers crushed the Legion forces in the area,[19] and the village was burned to the ground by Lord Vincent Godfrey.[20] The Horde agents next move was to attack the 7th Legion Base Camp under the command of General Marstone, which was also garrisoned by non-human 7th Legion members. They eventually assassinated General Marstone[21] and recovered the 7th Legion Battle Plan to learn about the Gilneas Liberation Front Base Camp.[22]
Afterwards, Sylvanas Windrunner took Lorna Crowley hostage, threatening her with undeath, forcing her father Darius to put an end to the Alliance offensive in the region.[23]
Tides of War
The 7th Fleet was sent by King Varian Wrynn to defend Theramore Isle against the Horde.[24] Under the command of Horran Redmane, who succeeded General Marstone after his death, its flagship was the Spirit of Tiffin and it bore General Marcus Jonathan, Shandris Feathermoon and her Sentinels, and General Tiras'alan. When Theramore's north gate fell, Horran and the 7th Legion joined the Alliance forces to repel Warchief Garrosh Hellscream's assault. The majority of the fleet and its forces were ultimately decimated during the destruction of Theramore Isle.[25] In the aftermath, King Varian ordered the fleet rebuilt with new ships blessed by the Light.[26]
Mists of Pandaria

During the Alliance-Horde war, the 7th Fleet anchored off the coast of the Krasarang Wilds as part of the Alliance vanguard arriving in Pandaria. One of their missions was to find the missing Prince Anduin Wrynn.[27] They served as the main force in the battles between Alliance and Horde forces in that region.[28] As part of Operation: Shieldwall, troops and ships from the 7th Legion, alongside the garrison of Lion's Landing, participated in attacks against the Horde stronghold of Domination Point.[29] Several of their units were later seen participating in the Assault on Zan'vess.
Legion
At the beginning of the third invasion of the Burning Legion, several units of the 7th Legion were seen preparing for the Battle for the Broken Shore in Stormwind Harbor.[30]
The 7th Legion were also deployed along with the Skyfire and King Genn Greymane's forces to escort Alliance champions to Stormheim and unofficially, to intercept Sylvanas Windrunner's fleet.[31] After engaging the fleet, the Skyfire was sabotaged by Forsaken boarders and crashes on Stormheim. The 7th Legion stayed at the front of the ship to fight off storm drakes while the crew evacuated.[32] An Alliance adventurer later rescued the missing Legionnaires from storm drakes and brought them back to the Skyfire Triage Camp.[33] Following this, they became a recruitable option for the Valarjar after Darius Crowley was freed.[34]
Several units were later seen aboard Wind's Redemption when it sailed from Stormwind City to Azuremyst Isle.[35]
Battle for Azeroth
“The 7th Legion represents the best that Azeroth has to offer. For the Alliance!”
At the beginning of the Fourth War, members of the 7th Legion guarded the Stormwind Stockades which contained Princess Talanji and Prophet Zul of the Zandalari Empire, as well as Varok Saurfang of the Horde captured during the Siege of Lordaeron. The Stockades were later infiltrated by Thalyssra, Rokhan, and the Horde adventurer in order to free the Zandalari trolls. The guards, along with Mage-Commander Lyra, were all killed during the evasion.[36] The 7th Fleet was later sent a fleet to apprehend Talanji, but only a single ship escaped the attack of the Golden Fleet,[37] while the shipwrecked survivors constructed a base near their landing site in Zuldazar.[38][39]
On King Anduin Wrynn's orders, the 7th Legion traveled to Kul Tiras with King Genn Greymane to ensure that Jaina Proudmoore's mission of getting the Kul Tirans to rejoin the Alliance succeeded.[40] When King Genn and the 7th Legion arrived in Boralus shortly after, they were confronted by the Boralus Guard on the orders of Priscilla Ashvane. However Cyrus Crestfall reminded the guards that they served Kul Tiras and House Proudmoore, not House Ashvane, and that they answered to him.[41] The 7th Legion forces could later be found aboard the Wind's Redemption docked at Boralus, where under High Commander Halford Wyrmbane's command they worked to secure the Alliance's position on Kul Tiras and Zandalar.[42]
During the 7th Legion's invasion of Zandalar, a regiment of void elves led by Magister Umbric - seeing the opportunity to prove their capabilities and their loyalty to the Alliance - attacked the Bilgewater Cartel's mining operations in an attempt to find and capture Jastor Gallywix, cooperating with the Dark Iron dwarves at Xibala.[43] They used their newfound powers to ambush the Cartel's goblins as well as throwing the cartel's frackers into the endless Void.[44] Although their mission ended in failure, the void elves managed to uncover Gallywix's decoy and send the trade prince on the run, impressing Halford Wyrmbane.[45]
In Lordaeron, the 7th Legion was stationed near Shadowfang Keep where Chief Plaguebringer Harris developed a new bio-weapon that was intended to be unleashed against Gilneas. It was eventually used against them while Horde champions encountered Captain Tobias Zaren.[46] Elements of the Legion were also found on the Sword of Dawn and participated in the Battle for Stromgarde.
During the Horde's assault on Drustvar, members of the 7th Legion were present among the Purified, an Alliance contingent of soldiers empowered by the Light to protect the people of Drustvar.[47]
During the Alliance's assault on Vol'dun, the 7th Legion began incinerating the caravans in the hope of stopping the shipments and dissuading the vulpera from doing any more jobs for the Horde.[48] Incensed by these attacks, Nisha asked Horde adventurers to defend her people and fight back against the Alliance invaders.[49]
The 7th Legion were amongst the Alliance forces fighting the Horde and their allies of the Zandalari Empire during the Battle of Dazar'alor. After the death of King Rastakhan, they joined the Kul Tiran fleet in their pursuit of Nathanos Blightcaller and the remaining Horde ships. After Queen Azshara used the Tidestone of Golganneth to open the seas, making both fleets wreck into the reefs of Nazjatar, the 7th Legion forces fought their way against the naga at Tide's Fall.[50] They eventually received the help of the Waveblade Ankoan and moved to Mezzamere, which became the center of the Alliance's efforts against the Nazjatar Empire. During the assault on the Eternal Palace, the 7th Legion followed the lead of Jaina Proudmoore and Shandris Feathermoon, keeping control of the palace's entrance.
At the culmination of the Fourth War, the 7th Legion were amongst the Alliance forces present for the battle at the Gates of Orgrimmar. Their gnome engineers brought the most advanced machinery in their arsenal,[51] such as the 7th Legion Siege Tanks, while others could be seen organizing troops for the upcoming battle, transporting equipment, scouting the terrain, and preparing bandages. On Varok Saurfang's orders, their battle mages teleported to cover the rebellion's flank and were tasked with shielding the army against magical assault.[52]
Exploring Azeroth
Following the war against the Jailer, the brothers Bronzebeard visited Wintergarde Keep in Dragonblight. Since the Lich King's defeat, the bulk of the 7th Legion forces there moved on to where they were most needed, but a small detachment remained to keep an eye on Dragonblight. They gave them a warm welcome at the keep.[53]
Dragonflight
Shortly after the night elves moved to Amirdrassil on the Dragon Isles, Highlord Leoric Von Zeldig led some forces of the 7th Legion to help the Gilnean Army during the Reclamation of Gilneas.[54] Their forces were assembled at Keel Harbor, and later could be seen fighting the Scarlet Crusade troops across Gilneas City.[55]
Heartlands
In the years following the Fourth War, Marran Trollbane, serving as regent for Lord Danath Trollbane as his diplomatic duties drew him to Stormwind City, officially called upon the 7th Legion Auxiliary to help farmers fend off predators, to train new soldiers to support the Alliance, and to maintain their family's rule while he was absent.[56] In reality, she sought to make war upon the Mag'har Clans of Hammerfall, who called upon the Kor'kron to help them train and deter action from Stromgarde, as she wished to continue King Thoradin's legacy and follow in the footsteps of the Empire of Arathor.[57]
Ten days following the destruction of Dalaran by Xal'atath, Lord Danath proposed securing the 7th Legion and the Kor'kron within the Arathi Highlands as their strike force for Khaz Algar. When Thrall, Aggra, and Jaina Proudmoore arrived in the Highlands, they discovered the fallen bodies of a skirmish between the Horde and Alliance.[56]
When Jaina visited Stromgarde Keep, the 7th Legion were present, but she noted that they kept their distance, with wary looks.[58]
In time, Regent Marran led the 7th Legion in a battle to claim the Go'Shek Farm, with the Horde led by Overlord Geya'rah rising to defend their holdings. While Thrall took to the battlefield to convince her to stand down, Aggralan was able to recruit the elementals to aid in reducing the fighting, and Jaina did her best to reduce casualties while seeking to stop Marran.[59]
Having come to see the battle upon the Go'Shek Farm as one without honor, Geya'rah sounded a horn and called for the Kor'kron and Mag'har to hold and called upon the 7th Legion and Stromic army to do the same. The Alliance followed suit and when Marran protested, she found herself arrested by Danath Trollbane himself, who formally apologized for her actions. With the Kor'kron and 7th Legion now united, Thrall and Jaina now had their strike force.[60]
