The ohuna (sometimes called wind eagles)[1][2] are a race of eagles[3][4] native to the Dragon Isles. They are mainly found in the Ohn'ahran Plains, but also in Thaldraszus and the Forbidden Reach. All ohuna are descended from Ohn'ahra, the Wild God of the Wind.[3][5]

The Maruuk centaur consider ohuna to be sacred, and it is forbidden to harm them. The birds' shed feathers contain small bits of wind magic and are used as reagents in many centaur rituals.[3] The Maruuk use ohuna as messenger birds.[6][7] Clan Shikaar uses them as hunting companions, but their relationship is transient and built on mutual respect, as the eagles do not answer to the centaur, but to the sky. Each spring, an ohuna chooses a new hunter to accompany, and each winter they return to their kin. The Shikaar consider it an honor to hunt alongside them.[8]

Some ohuna are blessed by Ohn'ahra and are known as Children of Ohn'ahra. When a mystic of Clan Ohn'ir dies, if they are considered worthy, a Child of Ohn'ahra soars down from the sky and brings their spirit to Windsong Rise, where they may become one with the wind and sky. Children of Ohn'ahra are normally a rare sight, but they can appear in large flocks if many mystics are killed at the same time.[9]
