Tarantulas are a group of large, hairy spiders, that can be found in many regions of Azeroth.

Types

• Cave Creepers are one of the possible random encounters during the Ring of Law event in Blackrock Depths.
• Darkfang Creepers, Darkfang Venomspitters and Giant Darkfang Spiders are found throughout Dustwallow Marsh.
• Deepmoss Creepers, Venomspitters and Webspinners are found in Webwinder Hollow in the Stonetalon Mountains.
• Forest Creepers are found in the Hillsbrad Foothills. Before the Cataclysm, they were called Forest Moss Creepers, and there was an Elder variation.
  • Domesticated Creepers have been tamed by the forsaken. They were presumably Giant Moss Creepers before they were tamed.
• Forest Lurkers are found in western Loch Modan.
• Forest Spiders are found in Elwynn Forest.
• Plains Creepers and Giant Plains Creepers are found throughout the Arathi Highlands.
• Sand Skitterers are found in northern Silithus.
• Sorrow Spinners and Venomspitters are found in western Swamp of Sorrows.
• Unnamed Tarantulas are found in the south-western part of the Redridge Mountains.
• Venom Mist Lurkers are found in the Western Plaguelands.
• Venomspitter Hatchlings are critters living in Webwinder Hollow in Stonetalon Mountains.
• Webwood Spiders are found throughout Teldrassil. They can be found in Normal, Lurker, Silkspinner, Venomfang and Giant variations. The matriarch of the webwood spiders is Githyiss the Vile.
• Wildthorn Spiders are found throughout Ashenvale. They can be found in Lurker, Stalker and Venomspitter variations.

Extinct

Original tarantula model.

• Blackfang Tarantulas were found throughout the Black Morass. However, they vanished somewhere between the first war and World of Warcraft. They can still be found in the Caverns of Time instance Opening of the Dark Portal.

Named

• Chatter is a rare tarantula found in Redridge Mountains.
• Chitter is a rare tarantula found in Redridge Mountains.
• Creepthess is a rare tarantula found in the Hillsbrad Foothills.
• Githyiss the Vile is the matriarch of the webwood spiders.
• Gretheer is a rare tarantula found in Silithus.
• Lady Sathrah is a corrupted tarantula found in Teldrassil. She used to be a beloved of Elune.
• Shanda the Spinner is a rare tarantula found in Loch Modan.
• Zorn is a rare tarantula found in Arathi Highlands.

• Bloodfever Tarantula is caught from pet battles in Nazmir.

•  [Redridge Tarantula Egg] is a guaranteed drop from Gnollfeaster in Redridge Mountains.

In the RPG

This section contains information from the Warcraft RPG which is considered non-canon.

Although Redridge Mountains is a peaceful Alliance region, the mountains remain dangerous at times, with tarantulas in the east. When traveling though here, Brann Bronzebeard himself stumbled upon a nest of tarantulas. He noted that if you followed the current from the Stonewatch Falls, you would eventually run into the canyons where tarantulas can be found, so most people did not go that far.

Notes

• The tortollans of the Tortaka tribe refer to the tarantulas of northern Vol'dun as jungle spiders.
