Shadow serpents are monstrous serpents riddled with corruption that serve as mounts for N'Zoth's high-ranking lieutenants in the Great Sea.[1] They have been around since the Black Empire.[2] The shadows that trail off of their scales are otherworldly.[3] They can feed on peoples' thoughts.[4]

Shassera <Nightmare in the Depths> is an elite shadow serpent rare found in her lair in the northern part of Nazjatar.
As a mount

Shadow serpents are tamable by hunters as part of the serpent family.

- The name shadow serpent comes from the sound file names introduced for them which are called Shadow_Serpent in the game files.[5]
