Inconsistencies and mistakes
- Inconsistencies
- The book initially (page 12) states that there were four Old Gods on Azeroth at the time of its discovery by the Pantheon of Order, in agreement with earlier volumes of Chronicle. The book later (page 169) states that N'Zoth was "one of five Old Gods who had formed the backbone of the Black Empire".
- The book's overview of the Purge of Dalaran omits the Sunreavers' incarceration in the Violet Hold and states that the Alliance forces instead rounded them up for "exile." It further posits that Lor'themar Theron interceded to stop the violence by calling Dalaran's blood elves into that exile. In the game, Jaina altered her command from exile to imprisonment when the Sunreavers' leader refused to abandon the city, the Alliance made efforts to prevent the Sunreavers from leaving, and their status as prisoners of war was a point of contention between Theron and Jaina in subsequent content.
- The allied races recap states that Lor'themar alerted Alleria Windrunner to the existence of blood elves exiled for dabbling in the Void. In the corresponding quest, it was Rommath who divulged this information.
- Even though
[10-60] The Stormwind Extraction is one of the first events of World of Warcraft: Battle for Azeroth, which ends with the Horde entering Zandalar and motivates the Alliance to reach out to Kul Tiras, the book states that the events of The Stormwind Extraction happen after Horde champions rescued Priscilla Ashvane, thereby placing the Kul Tiras leveling campaign and the Horde War Campaign before the Zandalar leveling campaign.
- Baine Bloodhoof, Thalyssra, and Rastakhan are said to have appointed the Horde champion as Speaker of the Horde. However, it was a title appointed solely by Rastakhan himself.[2]
- Mogul Razdunk is said to have been killed by the Alliance, however The Goblin Way established that he met an explosive end because of Gallywix.
- Instead of independently running into Varok and agreeing to aid him, Zekhan is said to have been included in Dark Ranger Lyana's mission to find and locate Varok and aligned with him when Lyana and her forces attempted to kill Varok.
- The book states that although "many believed" that brokers are native to the Shadowlands, they are dimensional beings who travel through many realms, with the Shadowlands playing host to a large population of them. The race was previously described as native to an unnamed realm of the Shadowlands.[3]
- Mistakes
- The book mentions Garrosh knowing his father as a fearsome warchief, even though the main universe's Grommash was never a warchief.
- A vrykul ship is present on the map of the alternate Draenor.
- Page 83 has "The demon lord was among the more powerful enemies than they had ever faced," which should be "The demon lord was among the more powerful enemies that they had ever faced,"
- Mathias Shaw's first name is misspelled "Matthias" throughout the book.
- Rokhan is referred to as "chieftain" and stated to be a Horde leader during the events of
[10-60] The Stormwind Extraction, however he didn't ascend to chieftainship of the Darkspear tribe until the formation of the Horde Council.
- The book refers to both Delaryn Summermoon and Sira Moonwarden as "dark wardens", even though the former is a dark ranger and not a warden.
- Gazlowe is referred to as a trade prince during the events of Rise of Azshara, even though he was not a trade prince at the time.
- The book erroneously states that Varok Saurfang's revolutionaries established themselves in the Swamp of Sorrows instead of Dustwallow Marsh.
- "Lord Chamberlain" is treated as a name rather than a title.
- Page 213 mentions the term "players" instead of an equivalent in-universe term like "adventurers" or "champions".
- The book's index conflates the Forge of Origination (in Uldum) with the Machine of Origination (in the Sepulcher of the First Ones), listing them together as "Forge (Machine) of Origination" and "Machine (Forge) of Origination".
Notes
- Despite the description, the book does not contain character family trees.
