Xandria is one of the five Paragons of the kyrian Ascended in Bastion, embodying the virtue of courage. She is one of the more martial of Bastion's Paragons, and is unafraid to pursue enemies of the kyrian even beyond her own realm.[1] Xandria oversaw the duties of the Temple of Courage in western Bastion before its sacking by the Maldraxxi House of Constructs. She is assisted in her duties by her Hands of Courage, Artemede and Apolon.

Biography

As one of Bastion's five Paragons, Xandria serves as a leader and example to all kyrian, particularly in the area of conflict and battle. Her predecessor,[2] Agthia, was instrumental in driving back an invasion of Bastion by the Void at the cost of her own life, and Xandria takes her duty similarly seriously.

As the Jailer grew in power and an anima drought afflicted the Shadowlands, the House of Constructs of Maldraxxus launched a raid into Bastion, striking first at Xandria's Temple of Courage. The Necrolords' necropolis destroyed much of the temple, but the Paragon of Courage continued to resist the attack from the heart of the temple, contending with Amarth the Harvester and his forces personally. Xandria's Hand of Courage, Thanikos, eventually led a counterattack against the Maldraxxi that broke through to the temple itself. However, as he rushed to his Paragon's aid, Thanikos was seized by the dark magic of Amarth and turned into a monstrous bone wraith, which Xandria and her allies were forced to slay.[3] Consumed with rage, the Paragon pursued Amarth deeper into the temple itself. It was only when her mortal allies caught up to her that they were able to kill the necromancer and stop the invasion in its tracks.

Later, Xandria made contact with Alexandros Mograine of the Maldraxxi House of the Chosen, and were together able to repel yet another assault on the weakened Temple of Courage.[4] In the wake of this success, the two planned an attack on the House of the Chosen itself in Maldraxxus, with the intent of ending Margrave Gharmal. After meeting with Baroness Draka, the Paragon led the kyrian assault on one wing of Gharmal's defenses. Soon, however, Xandria moved to the other wing to reinforce her Maldraxxi allies, before Margrave Gharmal themself took to the field. Along with her mortal allies, the Paragon engaged Gharmal long enough for the Chosen necropolis Zerekriss to ready its weapons and fire; the Margrave was killed outright by the blast. Victorious, Xandria removed Gharmal's heart for transport back to Elysian Hold to be used as part of a rebuilt Crest of Ascension. Though she did not believe this was consistent with the traditional kyrian way, she accepted that times were changing.[5]
