“I have known darkness, Alleria. I have seen lost creatures. You are not one of them. You have not crossed the threshold [...] In the Legion's name, I did countless things that cannot be forgiven. I committed genocide over and over and over again. The Light redeemed me nonetheless.”

— Lothraxion to Alleria Windrunner[1]

Lothraxion is the High Commander of the Grand Army of the Light, and serves High Exarch Turalyon and Lady Alleria Windrunner, who sent him to Azeroth in order to help protect it from the Burning Legion.[2] He is a nathrezim infused with the Light, and can be found at the Sanctum of Light as a champion of the Knights of the Silver Hand.

Background

Lothraxion is a unique instance of a nathrezim infused with the Holy Light. Before then, as a member of the Burning Legion, he hunted down creatures of the Void. It was during this time that he encountered Locus-Walker. Locus-Walker killed Lothraxion, but he did not kill him inside the Twisting Nether on purpose, allowing Lothraxion to regenerate. This is because Locus-Walker had seen a unique destiny for him.[3]

Lothraxion has since joined the Grand Army of the Light, an organization born from the survivors of worlds ravaged by the Legion and led by the naaru Xe'ra,[4] of which High Exarch Turalyon and Lady Alleria Windrunner are high-ranking members.[2][5]

Turalyon and Alleria Windrunner meeting Lothraxion and the rest of the Army of the Light aboard the Xenedar.

Following the destruction of Draenor, Lothraxion journeyed to the shattered realm in order to recruit Turalyon and Alleria Windrunner into the Army of the Light. After three days in their company, during which he told them about their crusade against the Burning Legion, Lothraxion withdrew to attract the assassin sent on their trail. When the demon was slain, Lothraxion stood alongside the prime naaru Xe'ra to welcome Turalyon and Alleria aboard the Xenedar.[6] Sometime later, the Lightforged raided a small Legion prison world, only to discover all the demons permanently dead due to the Void. During the raid, Alleria was attacked, infected with the void, and granted visions. In time, she became fascinated with the Void, and Lothraxion eventually told her all he knew of it. He also revealed to her the existence of Locus-Walker and conveyed their shared history. After learning that she believed the shadows would be beneficial to their mission against the Legion, Lothraxion warned her not to say such things where Xe'ra might hear.[7]

500 Nether-years later, Lothraxion fought side by side with Turalyon on Argus, and after their failed assault, both were attacked by the assassin Eradication seeking to claim the High Exarch's life. During the battle, Alleria (who had left the Army of the Light) returned and drove him off. Unable to stop the soulstone from draining her husband's soul, Alleria used the Void to rip the assassin's poison out of Lothraxion, who saved Turalyon's soul and cleansed the poison from him in turn. After killing the assassin, Alleria refused to leave and when the prime naaru arrived, she was ready to punish - even execute - Alleria for her actions. Turalyon and Lothraxion pleaded for mercy for Alleria, and Xe'ra was swayed by their words. Instead, she imprisoned the void elf, planning to keep her incarcerated until she renounced the shadows.[1]

Legion

Legion-Logo-Small.png This section concerns content related to Legion.

Lothraxion in World of Warcraft.

During the third invasion of the Burning Legion, Lothraxion was held captive on the Legion world of Niskara, where he was found and freed by the Highlord of the Silver Hand. Lothraxion, his name unknown to them at the time, informed the Highlord that the Legion planned to attack Netherlight Temple. He then left to get reinforcements.[8]

When Balnazzar attacked the Conclave and the Silver Hand at Netherlight Temple, the nathrezim opened countless portals to summon in more demons and finish them off, until Lothraxion and reinforcements from the Army of the Light arrived to defeat Balnazzar.[5][9] Afterward, he traveled to Light's Hope Chapel in order to support the Order of the Silver Hand as its champion.

At the time of the Argus Campaign, Lothraxion traveled aboard the draenei's new dimensional ship, the Vindicaar, to Argus and reunited with Turalyon at Krokuun.[10]

While his draenei comrades in the Army of the Light would go on to join the Alliance after the Legion's defeat, Lothraxion's allegiance remained unknown. He seems to have, for the moment, left the Vindicaar, possibly fighting surviving demons elsewhere, as he previously stated at the end of the Burning Crusade.[11]

Gossip

I am sure you have many questions, Highlord <name>. It was fate that our paths crossed that day on Niskara.
I serve High Exarch Turalyon and Lady Alleria Windrunner. When the Legion turned its armies toward Azeroth, I was sent here to help protect it.
How I got to Niskara is a tale for another time, but had it not been for you, I would still be Balnazzar's prisoner.
Now, I can fulfill my original mission. Let me fight for you. Together, we will drive back the Burning Legion![2]

Speculation

This article or section includes speculation, observations or opinions possibly supported by lore or by Blizzard officials. It should not be taken as representing official lore.

A nathrezim book found in Revendreth mentions the existence of a dreadlord having infiltrated and converted to the Light,[12] which could possibly refer to Lothraxion.
