Sulthis was the first of the Keepers, a trio of sethrak responsible for protecting Mythrax the Unraveler's tomb of Atul'Aman.

Background

After Mythrax was defeated and buried beneath Atul'Aman by the loa Sethraliss, the sethrak knew that something had to be done to prevent anyone from raising the Unraveler again.[1] Although the great sage Sulthis was immensely powerful, he couldn't seal the tomb alone and sought out Korthek and Vorrik for their help. They agreed, and thus the Keepers were formed. Together they cast a barrier around the pyramid, sealing Mythrax's corpse within.[1][2][3][4] To ensure that the tomb would remain undisturbed, each of the Keepers created a keystone imbued with their power.[5]

Of the Keepers, Sulthis was the most closely connected to Sethraliss. The love he bore for his loa, and for the desert, inspired him to adopt the cobra as his spirit guide. Sethrak traveled from near and far to place tokens of affection at statues of the three Keepers in Zul'Ahjin. These tokens embodied everything that Sulthis represented.[3] In those days, Sulthis, Vorrik, and Korthek led all sethrak in their worship of Sethraliss.[6]

Eventually, Korthek grew hungry for war[1] and Sulthis heard talk of Korthek being eager to attack the trolls. However, Sulthis could not understand why Korthek would want to start a fight he could not win after the sethrak had lived in peace for so long. Sulthis got the feeling that something bad would happen very soon, and he decided to safeguard his key and inform Vorrik of his concerns.[7] Eventually, Korthek decided to break the seal on Atul'Aman to use Mythrax to conquer Zandalar, and formed an army of like-minded sethrak that slaughtered all who opposed them. Sulthis was the first to fall, but not before safeguarding his key[1] in Zul'Ahjin and recording a message for Vorrik informing him of Korthek's betrayal.[8]

When an adventurer arrives in Zul'Ahjin and places two sapphires in the eyes of a crumbling statue in the center of the ruins, the statue triggers the message Sulthis left for Vorrik and causes the appearance of an ancient reliquary holding Sulthis' keystone,[8] which the adventurer then delivers to Vorrik at the Sanctuary of the Devoted.[1]
