Locus-Walker (sometimes referred to as the Locus-Walker)[2] is a void ethereal expert on the Void who, unlike his brethren, seeks to harness its power for more altruistic purposes. Once a K'areshi noble technomancer, he became the leader of the Ravel, a collection of the brightest minds in K'aresh who sought to save their world from Dimensius the All-Devouring. Locus-Walker's research on the Reshii Ribbons led to the creation of the arcane barriers that protected the Ka'reshi city-states from being destroyed. However, prolonged exposure to the energies emitted by these barriers caused the Wasting that transformed the K'areshi into the ethereals and the brokers. He is also the one who invented the magical wrappings used by the ethereals and brokers to hold their energy forms.
After being betrayed and branded a traitor by Nexus-King Salhadaar, he became an outcast for thousands of years, traveling across the Great Dark Beyond and Twisting Nether. Pursued by numerous enemies including the Burning Legion and the Shadowguard, he eventually met and taught Alleria Windrunner about the ways of the Void. Following the events of the Argus Campaign, Locus-Walker became a mentor to the void elves of Telogrus Rift, teaching them how to use their powers and not succumb to the whispers.
History
Devouring War

The K'areshi who would become Locus-Walker was once a technomancer from the city-state of Ma'nussa that studied the transference and harvest of energy. His status allowed him to count the city's leader, Ky'veza, as one of his closest companions.
When the Radiant Song first swept across K'aresh, he redirected all of his resources to studying it and figuring out its meaning. He looked to High Priest Salhadaar and the other Oracles for wisdom, but they were against him. During a meeting with the Council of Oracles, Salhadaar delivered his judgment. The Oracles did not believe the voices he had heard and condemned him for neglecting his work on the Reshii Ribbons in favor of studying the Void, with even Ky'veza supporting them. Salhadaar gave him a final warning that the matters of the Worldsoul were beyond his purview and that if he did not cease his research, their next meeting would be more difficult.
Frustrated with Council's orders, he met with his lover Krysson, who invited him to come with her to Tazavesh to clear his head. After spending the evening together, they parted, but he was soon abducted and brought before the Ravel, a collection of the sharpest K'areshi minds. Among them included Salhadaar, Ky'veza, Bilaal, and Nari, one of Salhadaar's covert agents and his abductor. Salhadaar apologized for their earlier meeting and revealed that they believed his warnings, but had to put on a farce to not spread panic among the masses. They pledged their support and inducted him into their ranks, granting him the new name Locus-Walker. As the Ravel welcomed him, Locus-Walker heard two messages from a voice. One telling him to beware, the other, however, all of K'aresh heard as it heralded the darkening of the skies. It warned that the All-Devouring was coming.
While Salhadaar and the Council put forth a plan to banish the long-lasting night, Locus-Walker resolved to save their world. He accepted Krysson's offer and moved to Tazavesh with her. Despite the urgency of his work, the time they spent together was a happy one. The Ravel aided his research by granting him a license to freely browse the markets. As months passed and Locus-Walker continued his research on the Void, the voice remained, one different from all the other void whispers that spoke of the coming danger. He revealed the existence of the voice to Krysson, who believed his research had opened his mind to something else. However, she would soon have to leave with her brothers and sisters as they resumed their nomadic journey across K'aresh. Despite offering to stay, Locus-Walker insisted she join them, but promised not to let his fear interfere with his work.
As he worked alone, Locus-Walker neglected sleep and sustenance, the voice instilling great fear into him. He discovered that void energy was accumulating around K'aresh at an alarming rate and would soon tear their world apart. Fortunately, Locus-Walker devised a plan to save their world, but it would require the resources of the entire world. He regularly updated the Ravel on his progress, but they remained skeptical due to his feverish explanations and complex data. He would later recognize that his greatest folly was waiting too long before presenting his solution to them, but he wished to be certain first.
In time, Krysson returned to him and was able to put his troubled mind to rest. Restored by her presence, Locus-Walker resolved to finally tell the Ravel about the threat they faced, a void lord named Dimensius sought to consume K'aresh's worldsoul. While they could not defeat a void lord, he believed they could use the Reshii Ribbons to save a portion of K'aresh and their people. However, Locus-Walker was uncertain if Dimensius would leave them alone after his meal. Despite fearing the Ravel's response, Krysson encouraged him to do it regardless, as this was his oath and why the worldsoul called to him.
On the day Locus-Walker was to present his findings to the Ravel, he first met with Ky'veza and Nari, whom he now considered a close ally. They revealed that there were those among the Ravel who wished to distance themselves from him. They doubted his research and came to them the night prior, seeking to retract Locus-Walker's oath to the Ravel. Nari reassured him that there were still those who supported him, including Salhadaar, but even they needed solutions, to which Locus-Walker assured her he did.
At the meeting, Locus-Walker presented his plan to use the Reshii Ribbons to power barriers across K'aresh. He explained that he created a device that could use the ribbons to transmute any kind of energy into pure arcane power. They would then use that energy to power reactors he designed to create impenetrable barriers across K'aresh. While the void lord's coming was inevitable, he would not have any matter to feast upon, and their people would survive. Salhadaar realized that such a plan would require an enormous amount of labor and meant revealing the truth to the people. Bilaal bemoaned the coordination needed to construct so many reactors, but Nari argued for Locus-Walker to lead the project. When they suggested they study Locus-Walker's designs first, Ky'veza told them they wasted time and urged Salhadaar to act. Salhadaar issued his final order to begin construction immediately and relinquished command of the Ravel to Locus-Walker. Despite lingering skepticism, all members of the Ravel stood beside Locus-Walker.
As the K'areshi constructed reactors across the city-states, dissent grew among the people. However, that quickly changed the day the Void shook the foundations of their world. Fortunately, they completed the reactors in time, and the arcane barriers came to life with not a moment to spare. While the city-states were safe beneath the barriers, the rest of K'aresh was ravaged by the Void, and their twin suns were consumed by Dimensius.
The K'areshi resolved to fight back, but the war soon turned into a siege. As months passed within the barriers, the K'areshi began to suffer from an affliction they called the Wasting. Locus-Walker consulted the technomancers and mages for a solution, but they cloistered themselves away, searching for an answer he could not give them. As the Wasting spread, the K'areshi began wrapping their decaying forms in layered bindings.
One evening, while Locus-Walker was changing Krysson's bandages, he noticed something unusual where her flesh should have been. He quickly darkened the room, and Krysson's body began to glow. Locus-Walker realized that prolonged exposure to the energy of the Reshii Ribbons had transmuted her into a being no longer made of flesh. He presented Krysson to the Ravel and proposed that if their people became beings of pure energy, they would no longer need K'aresh and could traverse the Great Dark Beyond in search of a new home. The Ravel debated his plan, but Salhadaar remained uncertain and asked for more time to make a decision.
Not waiting for Salhadaar's approval, Locus-Walker began gathering unused ribbons, encouraged by the mysterious voice. Nari and her agents aided him, but she soon brought troubling news: Salhadaar had also been collecting ribbons, but not for Locus-Walker's plan. Rumors were circulating that he no longer called himself High Priest and planned to address the people the following day. Locus-Walker, Nari, Ky'veza, and Krysson convened for a final meeting before Salhadaar's address.
When Salhadaar revealed his plans, Bilaal and Soul-Scribe stood at his side. He declared that while they had endured much, their greatest test was yet to come. For that reason, they would have to put aside their differences and unite. As such he would no longer serve as their High Priest, instead, declaring himself High King. Salhadaar then accused Locus-Walker and his allies of intentionally causing the Wasting and conspiring against him. As the Soul-Scribe gave the order to seize them, the barrier protecting Tazavesh began to crack.
Nari and Ky'veza fought back the encroaching mob, giving the others time to flee. They decided to split up: Locus-Walker and Nari went to recover the ribbons, while Krysson escaped with Ky'veza as her guardian. However, that would be the last time Krysson and Locus-Walker ever saw each other.[1] Locus-Walker and Nari ultimately succeeded in using the ribbons to transmute their people, but their relationship soured, and they last saw each other before Dimensius consumed their world.[3]
A Thousand Years of War
Because he was free of the Void's grasp despite wielding its powers, the Burning Legion tried to capture him and in the process lost countless lives, with Lothraxion nearly being one of them. However, Locus-Walker had seen a unique destiny for Lothraxion and so did not kill him in the Twisting Nether, where he would have been dead for good.
Alleria Windrunner first heard about Locus-Walker from Lothraxion and wanted to seek him out to learn how the Void fought. Xe'ra made it clear she did not approve of Alleria attempting to seek him out because, according to her, the Light and Void could not coexist. A thousand years after she joined the Army of the Light (from her perspective, due to how time works inside the Nether), Alleria encountered Locus-Walker while both of them were imprisoned by the Legion on Niskara. She had left the Army five hundred years before this after using the Void to save herself and her husband, Turalyon, from dying on Argus.
When Locus-Walker was captured by the Legion, the wrappings containing his energy body had been destroyed. After Alleria used his teachings to kill the inquisitor torturing them, Locus-Walker opened a Void rift for them to escape. On the other side was utter nothingness, the Void itself. Their first lesson was about maintaining Alleria's sanity while using the Void's power. Throughout her training, Locus-Walker delved into her memories. He explained to her the duality of Light and Shadow, how the Light cannot see the whole of destiny because it alone is not responsible for it; likewise, the Shadow cannot see all of destiny either. He explained how the Shadow sees the Light as nothing but horrors, just as the Light sees the Shadow, and how neither is true nor wrong. How the Light seeks one path and shuns all others as lies, while the Void seeks every possible path and sees them all as truth. Through Locus-Walker's training, Alleria was able to see a destiny that both the Light and Shadow could not see.
But Alleria also realized she was delving into the Void too soon, before her destiny demanded it. Seeing a vision of Turalyon presently being attacked by an eredar attempting to steal his soul as a prize, she tried to have Locus-Walker let her go. When he refused as they were not done, she attacked him to force the lesson to be cut short. Furious, Locus-Walker declared her a coward, and he should have expected no less. Though he began to gather power to strike back at her, he stopped when he heard what Alleria's vision was and, laughing, said she had made a very determined enemy; Alleria wasn't sure if that meant Locus-Walker or the eredar. Deciding she may have a unique destiny, Locus-Walker acquiesced, allowing Alleria to go save her husband. But he believed they would meet again.[2]
Legion
While investigating why the Void was corrupting the Krokul of Eredath on Argus, Alleria and an adventurer from Azeroth encountered Locus-Walker. He explained that he had come to Argus to investigate what the Shadowguard, a group of ethereals who had tragically succumbed to the Void,[4] were doing there.[5] The Shadowguard, in turn, wanted to capture Locus-Walker before he could disrupt their efforts of making Argus fall to darkness. After showing Alleria and the adventurer what the Shadowguard was up to, Locus-Walker confronted Alleria about her husband Turalyon and what he thought of her use of shadow magic, asking how she could use it when the Light shone so brightly beside her. Alleria countered that without the Light, there is no Shadow.[6] Locus-Walker had hoped to find more ethereals among the Shadowguard who possessed the necessary strength of mind to resist the Void, and was disappointed to find such an utter lack of resistance.[4]
After taking care of the ethereals at the Shadowguard Incursion, Locus-Walker decided to allow Alleria another opportunity to pursue her destiny. After slaying the void revenant Nhal'athoth, Locus-Walker retrieved its heart and gave it to Alleria, who consumed it.[7] After telling Alleria that as long as her mind remained her own, she could control the Void's power and that perhaps someday he would tell Alleria how he came to control it by himself, Locus-Walker took his leave.[8]
Locus-Walker appeared again when the Army of the Light sought the Crest of Knowledge from the Seat of the Triumvirate. After Saprish died, Locus-Walker took his staff. During the battle with L'ura, he prompted Alleria to use the power of the Void rifts the dark naaru was opening, culminating in her absorbing L'ura's essence and transforming into a Void state that she could turn off and on at will. After saying they needed to test the limits of her newfound power, Alleria and Locus-Walker left the Seat.
Locus-Walker can later be found at Telogrus Rift after the void elves join the Alliance. He finds the void elves fascinating, and they give him much to ponder. He wants to linger to learn about Telogrus. High Elf Wayfarers and Silvermoon Scholars are gathered around him.
Dark Heart
When a Void entity known as "the Harbinger" attacked Telogrus Rift, Locus-Walker intervened to get rid of an image of Turalyon that the Void was using to attack Alleria. He identified the Harbinger as Xal'atath and was able to get her to pull back from her attack.[9] He informed Alleria that the Radiant Song that people all across Azeroth were hearing, the voice of her world-soul, was the same thing that the people of his homeworld K'aresh had heard shortly before it was destroyed by Dimensius and the Void. He believed that Xal'atath intended the same fate for Azeroth. He then stated that Alleria was unbalanced, that she must master her unique nature, and if she couldn't then Azeroth was already doomed.[10]
The Doom of K'aresh
Immediately after Xal'atath's attack at Telogrus, Locus-Walker took Alleria on a hunt for a void revenant that he sensed in Telogrus. During their hunt, Locus-Walker told Alleria about his history and role in the downfall of K'aresh, with Locus-Walker's goal in telling her what had happened being to make Alleria give up her bonds, as he had tried to do on Argus. After Locus-Walker abruptly ended his story without speaking of the final acts which he and Nari had committed to save the K'areshi, Alleria asked him what had ever happened to Krysson. Locus-Walker responded that he had never seen her again after Salhadaar's betrayal.
When Locus-Walker and Alleria found the void revenant, Alleria refused to kill it as Locus-Walker demanded, because she had grown increasingly concerned over who the revenant had once been. Her questioning and hesitation made Locus-Walker uncharacteristically angry. When she finally did kill it, she attempted to consume its heart as she had done to the void revenant on Argus, only for Locus-Walker to demand that it belonged to him. Alleria confirmed that she knew it did; that it always had. While Locus-Walker had attempted to make her give up her bonds, his story had instead reminded Alleria of the strength of love, which Locus-Walker had long forgotten. Alleria left, and after a moment Locus-Walker, alone with his memories, consumed the void revenant's heart.[1]
The War Within
When the Shadowguard ethereals attacked Locus-Walker at Telogrus Rift, the adventurer arrived in time to help him fight them off, as they had come to deliver a message from the broker Ve'nari.[11] A projection of Ve'nari appeared before them, but Locus-Walker was not pleased to see her, as they had not spoken since the destruction of K'aresh. Ve'nari had anticipated that the Shadowguard would come after Locus-Walker and decided that the two of them needed to work together once more. The two then walked off to speak further.[3]
Ghosts of K'aresh
In patch 11.2.0, players will venture to the ethereal homeworld of K'aresh and work with Locus-Walker to stop the Shadowguard from resurrecting Dimensius the All-Devouring.[12]

Gossip
- Telogrus Rift
Fascinating.
I sensed that change was destined to find Alleria Windrunner, but I did not anticipate that her kin would undergo a similar transformation.
The implications are many. These events have given me much to ponder.
What do you know of Telogrus?
This is a very old place. Broken by rage, yet sculpted by the threads of fate.
There is much to be learned here. I believe I might linger a while.
Be seeing you.- During the Hunt for the Harbinger
Do you wish to learn more of the Void? It has many lessons to teach us amongst its maddening whispers.
One must simply learn to properly listen.
<Stay awhile and listen.>
- Locus-Walker says: Let's discuss maintaining your sanity. The Void will do everything it can to shatter your will.
- Locus-Walker says: You see the Void as an enemy. It sees you the same way. For now.
- Locus-Walker says: Its very nature is hostile to order. Life. Sanity.
- Locus-Walker says: You must dive deep into its shadows. Accept its many truths.
- Locus-Walker says: You cannot reject it. You must accept it.
- Locus-Walker says: Only then will every ounce of power be yours to command.
- Locus-Walker says: Embrace this wisdom, and your mind will yet be your own.
Why have you chosen to teach the ren'dorei about the Void?
Your question is not without merit. Long ago, I chose to teach Alleria about the ways of the Void. But she had proven herself worthy of such lessons with my rescue from the Legion.
Perhaps I merely wish to sate my own curiosity. And Telogrus Rift and the ren'dorei are both quite the curiosities, aren't they?
Tell me about something else.
I have much to discuss with you both.

Notes and trivia
- Alleria assumed Locus-Walker was the only one of his kind to tangle with the Void.[6]
- Thaumaturge Vashreen calls Locus-Walker a "disreputable individual" who sought him out as a financier for a project that sounded profitable, and Locus-Walker has never repaid Vashreen's investment.
- Locus-Walker is voiced by Michael Donovan in Legion.[13] He is later voiced by Ray Porter in Dragonflight and The War Within.[14]
- During the 8.3 PTR, he was at some point planned to appear in the Chamber of Heart. Here, he would act as a vendor for certain Azerite Essence items in exchange for
[Echoes of Oblivion].
