"Every good story needs a hero!"

Lorewalker Cho is the leader of the pandaren Lorewalkers. His kindly demeanor, boundless curiosity and saint-like patience has made him something of an informal ambassador of pandaren culture to the Horde and Alliance. While not a fighter, Cho accompanies the players on numerous adventures throughout Pandaria, usually providing lore and background to current situations. He can be found at various locations in Jade Forest and Kun-Lai Summit, as well as Mogu'shan Vaults. Cho can also be seen during The Wanderer's Festival at Turtle Beach of the Krasarang Wilds.

While Lorewalker Cho can be long-winded at times, the wisdom he can impart upon those with the patience to listen is valuable.[2] His ever-trusting personality serves as a foil to the wary Taran Zhu.

Mists of Pandaria

At Dreamer's Pavilion.
At Cave of Words.
Lorewalker Cho and Mishi at Grookin Hill.

As Alliance, you arrive at a pandaren hut and drink a seemingly alcoholic beverage, and upon doing so you see visions of Varian/Goldrinn a.k.a Lo'Gosh, Anduin and surprisingly Garrosh. A few moments later, Lorewalker Cho approaches and douses you with water to wake up from his dream brew. He wanted to know why that particular person (Anduin) is here. On hearing this, the Alliance adventurer shows Cho one of three pictures the adventurer hastily draws. The adventurer can show him Prince Anduin Wrynn, something abstract, or something heroic. Cho follows the story of your people closely and states that you all may have more in common than one would think. Lastly, the adventurer feeds Cho's birds, and upon doing so Cho welcomes you with open arms, requesting your aid for many services. Letting him know of Anduin Wrynn, the adventurer must meditate to find where he is. After a successful meditation, it shows the White Pawn being chased by Hozen. Then, you depart to go help Anduin Wrynn and will see Lorewalker Cho later.

As Horde, you arrive at the hozen villages and take out Dook Ookem. Shortly afterward, the Hozen flee in fear of the Horde adventurer and Cho jumps down and greets them. Cho says that he saw them in a Skyship and has many questions for them. The Horde adventurer then meets Lorewalker Cho again in the Cave of Words to speak with him further. First, he tells the Horde adventurers about the mogu, then you ride with him to talk about who the Lorewalkers are. Cho explains that the Lorewalkers are very similar to historians. Cho and the other Lorewalkers work tirelessly to discover more of the hidden mysteries and lore of Pandaria and its past. In order to do so, he needs information from tablets and scrolls from a place called the Circle of Bone in order to enhance his knowledge. The first tablet tells of a Hozen warlord many years ago. The second tablet is researched until a bloodthirsty monster called a Saurok appears. Pandaren have been attempting to communicate with these beasts for quite some time, and show no signs of stopping any time soon. At last, Cho wants to know about your people. Heading towards the Circle of Stone, where his Great Grandfather showed Cho of his ancestors, Cho now asks the Horde adventurer to tell their tale. Upon hearing it, Lorewalker Cho is pleased. After all that information is digested, he sends you back with the local hozen at a Hozen Camp for welcoming them to the Horde and will see him later.

When both the Alliance and Horde adventurers reach Dawn's Blossom, you find him with Pandaren children. Cho explains that these children are the true heart of the Jade Forest. Cho asks that the adventurer help the people here, and earn a good reputation, become revered by the denizens of Pandaria.

Later near Emperor's Omen, you find him with Foreman Mann and she is worried about her husband. Lorewalker Cho wants us to be introduced to her but is worried about many things. Rescue her husband and she will be most pleased to help in future events.

Before preparations for both the Alliance and Horde commence, Cho has found something and wants you to follow him as soon as possible. Leaving your faction behind would cost a lot, but you have little choice but to go anyway. The  [Cho Family Heirloom] is to be used to see the last piece of the puzzle. During the Battle for Serpent's Heart, it is shown that Emperor Shaohao, the last Pandaren Emperor, hid a negative emotion known as Doubt. The Sha of Doubt then comes before Lorewalker Cho, and Cho becomes horrified of this creature. He said he thought it was just a myth, but it appearing before his very eyes had vanished all doubt he had. Now, the adventurers need to clear the manifestation by using Mishi and close the Sha spikes so it can stop creating more Sha. The adventurer then lands near Serpent's Heart and rescues his/her faction companions. Shortly afterward, Cho and Fei (Yu'lon the Jade Serpent), stand aside from each other, shunned. Talk to the Jade Serpent in regards to going to the Valley of the Four Winds to find what the adventurer's quest holds.

Lorewalker Cho at Seeker's Point.

In Kun-Lai Summit, you get a note from Mishka/Shademaster Kiryn that Cho had seen something in the mountains. You then see him at a Grummle camp called One Keg. He travels to Seeker's Point to obtain  [The Tongue of Ba-Shon], and you stay connected with him via a device and go into every tomb within Kun-Lai to look for clues of where the Thunder King slept. After hours of searching the tombs, the adventurer did battle with Zandalari trolls and mogu. Later, the adventurer finally discovers the rest of the Thunder King. The tablet reads thus read by Lorewalker Cho:

Lorewalker Cho says: Under Kun-Lai Thunder sleeps...
Lorewalker Cho says: The storm long spent there rests...
Lorewalker Cho says: But blood of brother kingdom keeps...
Lorewalker Cho says: Alive the dispossessed...
Lorewalker Cho says: By Zandalari blood he will be taken...
Lorewalker Cho says: To Zandalari Voice he will awaken...

Cho is surprised at what happens next. A troll named Prophet Khar'zul leads a team of Zandalari trolls to take the corpse of Lei Shen out of the tomb, and is planning to resurrect him from the Isle of Reckoning. Cho sends word to Lin Whispercloud and Shin Whispercloud of what's happening near the seas of Kun-Lai and explains that they must be prepared for the incoming massive waves of Mogu and Trolls. It was too late when the adventurers arrive that Zouchin Province, as it was already reduced to smoke and ash. The assault had begun. The adventurers and Lorewalker Cho were aware of the situation at hand, but not Lin Whispercloud, Shin Whispercloud and others in the town. Continuous waves of Trolls poured in, keeping the adventurers busy and distracted while the ritual resurrecting Lei Shen was in progress. Hours after the assault, Cho captured a Zandalari Prisoner. They persuaded him for hours until Lorewalker Cho informed the adventurers of the devolving situation. They returned upstairs and persuaded the prisoner together. Unfortunately, Ii was too late, and the prisoner told them that the Thunder King was successfully resurrected by the troll prophets. The adventurers were left with no choice, they must engage the Isle of Reckoning regardless, and slay them all so that nothing more foul is brought back into the world. The aftermath of Lei Shen was another problem to be dealt with for another time.

Lorewalker Cho at the Seat of Knowledge

At last, Lorewalker Cho returns to his home/library, and this is where he can permanently be found at the Vale of Eternal Blossoms, known as the Seat of Knowledge. Speak with him of anything particular like knowing more of Pandaria. Though he yet wonders why Brann Bronzebeard is present.

He may oftentimes be seen at Halfhill Market in Valley of the Four Winds.

The Thunder King

He shares stories of Lei Shen, the Zandalari trolls and the mogu origins. He is also seen in the faction-specific scenarios explaining the adventurers why they are there.

Escalation

The lorewalker wants to know what's happening and understand what's going on. He invites the adventurer to look into a recent activity in Dun Morogh, what's happening in the Vale and what's to come. He wishes he could see everything to the end, but said he's a "storyteller".

Siege of Orgrimmar

Lorewalker Cho at the Tournament.

Cho traveled to the Timeless Isle meeting with Anduin Wrynn, Wrathion and Kairoz. After Wrathion is ready to grant the adventurer his final reward, Cho and Wrathion traveled back to the Seat where they narrated the final story about the adventurer. Cho was uneasy about what way Wrathion's part of the story is was heading. Cho is also part of the Celestial Tournament with his companions - Knowledge, Patience and Wisdom.

Cho is also present in the Vale of Eternal Sorrow's part of the Siege of Orgrimmar, commenting on Immerseus, The Fallen Protectors and Norushen. He then found wounded Taran Zhu and brought him to safety for recuperation. After the fall of Sha of Pride, Cho returned with Lor'themar Theron and Jaina Proudmoore. He ultimately witnessed the aftermath of the Siege, where Taran Zhu takes Garrosh to Pandaria for a trial. Cho commented that the adventurers freed Pandaria from the grasp of Sha, something that even titans and mogu could not do.

After this, he witnessed the ghost of Emperor Shaohao plant a new tree beginning with the healing of the Vale.

Aftermath
What you have achieved today will shape the face of Pandaria for thousands of years to come.

During his journey to craft a potion that could cleanse someone of the Old Gods' corruption, Wrathion made acquaintance with the Lorewalkers. In his journal, he mentioned that the sheer volume of knowledge to be found within their scrolls was marvelous to behold. Lorewalker Cho notably taught him much about the legends of the Black Empire.[2]

Upon discovering that a friendly group of mogu existed, Magni Bronzebeard and the adventurer traveled to Cho at the Seat of Knowledge and sought his help to identify the clan. Cho figured out that they were the Rajani, servants of Highkeeper Ra.

With N'Zoth freed, the Black Empire began to assault the Vale of Eternal Blossoms. Cho asked adventurers to defend the Vale.

Lorewalker Cho is the narrator of The Thunder King trailer, telling the story of Lei Shen's rule over ancient Pandaria.

Jade Forest

Grookin Hill

The answer I seek eludes me...

Sometimes <class>, one must step back from the trees in order to see the forest.

Serpent's Overlook and Serpent's Heart
  • If only I had figured out the fresco sooner. So much could have been avoided, <name>.
  • So much... lost.
And I fear, <name>, that this is only the beginning.
Circle of Stone

Another ancient place, this one made even more special in recent years.

Dreamer's Pavilion, initial

The dream brew that you sampled earlier can expand your consciousness and show you events transpiring around the land. I will teach you how to use it properly, and we will find your prince!

But first, help me to create a fresh batch.

Dreamer's Pavilion, during quests

A good dream brew is VERY powerful. It will require a focused mind to gain any kind of clarity from the visions!

Before Finding Your Center
  • <The Lorewalker's kind eyes rest upon you attentively.>

  • Gossip Who are you... WHAT are you?
  • Gossip What is this land? Why has its presence been hidden for centuries?
  • Gossip How can I help the jinyu win against those monkey savages?
  • To ask a thing only begins to prepare the mind to receive the answer.
  • If I were to answer you now, I would deny you the enlightenment that should be yours.
  • You must learn to ponder, stranger. Your impetuous questions betray a lazy mind.
  • Listen carefully to the silence, <class>. What does it say?
  • Deep truths may only be learned through deep questioning.
  • There is yet much which stands between you and your question's answer.
  • To merely provide an answer teaches nothing.
Pandaria is a land of teaching and learning.
  • If you truly desire to know such things, the answer shall come to you when you are prepared to receive it.
Dawn's Blossom

Your timing is flawless. I was just about to leave. But please, stay and enjoy the town while Toya gathers the jade we need.

Kun-Lai Summit

Gossip

Sometimes the roads we travel teach us more about ourselves than we would expect.

Seeker's Point gossip

The mogu are preparing for something big. We've got to stop them from getting ahold of any more ancient weapons.

North Wind Tavern, post-N [20-35] Prophet Khar'zul
  • This village has you to thank for their victory.
  • To see only the defeat of losing the remains would be foolish. This village is the first of many that will rise against the Thunder King. This is a great victory!
  • When we face the Thunder King we will be prepared.

Wanderer's Festival

<Name>! I am delighted to see that you are celebrating the Wanderer's Festival with us!

It is often said that pandaren are not the adventurous sort. But look around at these faces - ah, you see? The starry eyes of dreamers!

I should think that someday soon, there will be many more pandaren adventurers to speak of, making a difference all over the world. Don't you think?

Seat of Knowledge

No lore

Who would ever guess how much knowledge was hidden behind these walls. And there is so much more we can add to it.

As you explore our land, keep an eye out for objects of interest that might help us learn more of our past. Piece together enough of our history, and I may be able to share a story or two with you.

Lore collected

Who would ever guess how much knowledge was hidden behind these walls. Between the wealth of information here and the lore you have uncovered in your travels, I believe I can weave together a few tales of our forgotten past.

Which one would you like to hear?

Scenarios unlocked

It is good to see you, my friend. So much is transpiring it is hard for a Lorewalker like myself to keep up. I have seen many things through my dream brew, but we will need a hero such as yourself to help write this next chapter of our history.

Timeless Isle

Why so surprised, <name>?

It is as I have always told you. Pandaria is a wondrous land full of secrets and mysteries.

Gossip What is this place?

The people of Pandaria came here millennia ago to watch aspiring emperors face the challenges of the August Celestials.

So! Are you here to watch would-be heroes brave the Celestials' tests?

Or to brave them yourself?

Celestial Tournament

Gossip

Initial

The Celestial Tournament is nearly as old as Pandaria itself. Many have come to test their mettle. Shall we test yours?

Gossip Let's do battle!

You have beaten me today, but you will need all the virtues to take on the Celestials.

  • Defeat is merely a lesson masked by disappointment.
  • To die would be a wonderfully grand adventure.
Pet lost
  • A worthy sacrifice.
  • Like the stream meeting the cliff, there is beauty in the fall, if you know where to look.
  • The autumn leaves must fall to make room for spring blossoms.
  • When one virtue is lost, cling to those that remain.
Victory
  • Today you have lost -- but what have you learned?
Defeat
  • You have taught me much, <race>. It seems the master has again become the student.
