Jani is a saurid loa known as the Patron of Scavengers, the Lord of Thieves, the God of Garbage, Master of Minions, the Keeper of Secrets[1] Ruler of Rubbish, Master of all things Discarded an' Unwanted,[3] and the loa of discarded things. Jani looks out for the people that others might be throwing away or ignoring, such as the orphans and the poor.[4] He can be found by interacting with the Mysterious Trashpiles all over Zandalar.

Jani appears to be very protective of his children, as well as being quite the trickster, polymorphing those who hurt his children to humble them while laughing at their expense. Though Jani is the god of secrets, Yazma is the mistress of spies. She sends her spiders, the Eyes of Yazma to hunt Jani's children.[1]

Jani's projection in Dazar'alor.

While completing a menial task of killing some thieving saurid harassing a merchant, Jani appears as "The Big One" and attacks an adventurer. When they go to investigate a pile that it disappeared into, they are captured in the Big One's jaws, who reveals himself to be Jani. Jani is furious that the adventurer would kill his children so casually.[5] To teach them a lesson, he changes them into a saurid and forces them to go bite the one who originally sent them, Nokano. After being humbled, Jani lets the adventurer go.[1]

During the Children's Week, Azala stole shinies for Jani.[6]

After discovering that members of the Darkspear tribe had taken to worshipping Mueh'zala, Rokhan decided that they needed to seek out their old loa.[7] To that end, Bwonsamdi helped them call upon Jani, who brought Rokhan and the champion to Zul'Gurub through his garbage piles.[8] While within Stranglethorn Vale, Jani informed Rokhan that the loa they are trying to find has been taking the offerings meant for Hakkar, the loa of blood. When the trolls finally managed to get Kevo ya Siti's attention he scared Jani by appearing from behind him and screaming.[9] After that he helped the trolls get to Bambala, a place he took a liking to because of his newfound popularity among the locals.[10] During the rescue of Lukou Jani just observed the actions of the mortals, not taking any action himself, and only when Lukou was finally free he offered everyone to get back to the Echo Isles through his trash pile.[11]

When the betrayal of Tzadah was revealed Jani tried to find an item that would help Rokhan and his companion to not fall and die from a large height during the fight against the traitor.[12] When Tzadah was killed and Mueh'zhala's influence over the Darkspear severed, Jani stated Most trolls forget all about him, but won't forget this day. After Rokhan mused that it took only a few frightened trolls turning to Mueh'zala to be putting them all at risk. Kevo ya Siti, Lukou, and Jani declared that they knew the true worth of the Darkspear, with Bwonsamdi stating that they all knew that the Darkspear meant loyalty.[13]

The ruins within Gorilla Gorge may once have been Jani's temple, as that is where the tale of Jani can be found.
