“You seek to delay the inevitable. The Legion will wash over this world!”
The Veiled Hand was a human sect that served the Burning Legion during its third invasion of Azeroth. Its members came from the ruling council of Darkshire and its protectors, the Night Watch. Their goal was to bring about the downfall of the kingdom of Stormwind with an army of demons.
A group of cultists led by Sister Ebonlocke murdered several innocent inhabitants of Darkshire under the orders of "The Herald", in order to organize a demonic ritual in Stormwind Keep. Among the loyal watchers, Sarah Ladimore could be seen protecting several citizens and mentioned that the defection of her comrades was certainly due to dark magic.[2]
After the rogues of the Uncrowned tracked them through the Altar of Storms, Raven Hill, and Darkshire, the cultists ultimately infiltrated Stormwind City, forcing the rulers to lock the city down.[3] Many of the cultists were targeted and killed, including Felcaller Whitley,[4] Caden Shadowgaze,[5] and Althea Ebonlocke,[3] but some councilmen still managed to escape.[2]
Within Stormwind Keep, the cultists painted a big demonic rune on the floor of the throne room, while the traitor Melris Malagan summoned a demonic portal in the castle's garden. Garona Halforcen and the Shadow of the Uncrowned ultimately killed the Herald of the Legion and stopped demons from being summoned into the city.[3]

Notes
- Interestingly, in the non-canon RPG books, Mayor Ello Ebonlocke had already shown distaste for the King.
- Watcher Ladimore was a member of the Veiled Hand during the Legion beta, but this was changed due to player objections.
Speculation
![]() |
This article or section includes speculation, observations or opinions possibly supported by lore or by Blizzard officials. It should not be taken as representing official lore.
|
Motivation
It is unclear what exactly motivated this change of allegiance in the Night Watch. Watcher Ladimore speaks of dark magic being at play, suggesting the Watchers have lost themselves to demonic corruption. Further to this, Ladimore mentions the Night Watch believed the lies of the Herald, which according to Althea Ebonlocke consisted of promises of freedom and respect, though what these two things entailed is unknown.[2]
It can be speculated that due to the years of neglect from the kingdom of Stormwind,[6] the Herald may have persuaded the Night Watch to take the aid of the Burning Legion in rebelling for their independence from Stormwind.
Status
After the Fourth War, Sarah Ladimore became the commander of the Night Watch, but the status of the traitors or the escaped councilmen is unknown. They may still be in hiding or dead.
