Raven priest

Not to be confused with talonpriest.

The raven priests are a shadowy priesthood within the Scarlet Onslaught. They were founded after the dreadlord Mal'Ganis, disguised as Grand Admiral Westwind, claimed to have heard the Holy Light whisper "a new blessing" to him in his sleep and passed it on to High Abbot Landgren. This prompted some of the Onslaught's members to convert to the priesthood and become known as raven priests. Landgren added the new "blessing" to the ends of prayer books.

The priesthood's ranks consist of Raven Priests, Raven Bishops, and Raven Archons. Although they preach about the Holy Light, the raven priests are always in shadowform, accompanied by shadowy images of ravens, and use shadow magic to summon flocks of ravens as a way to attack enemies or heal themselves. They are responsible for resurrecting dead soldiers and administering blessings of the Light to their fellow Onslaught members, but these blessings appear to be tinged with shadow magic. Most sinister of all, the Raven Archons transform into demonic Unholy Archons when near death.

Not all Onslaught priests became raven priests; both Inquisitor Ward and the heretical Mariella Ward and Onslaught Apostates continued using the Light in the conventional way.

Notes

• The visual effect of the ravens flying above the priests' heads is reused from Atiesh, Greatstaff of the Guardian's equip effect. Priest players can replicate the effect with  [Thaumaturgist's Orb] and formerly the  [Glyph of Shadow Ravens].
