The Dark Shaman are a cult of dark shaman, formed by remnants of the fallen Twilight's Hammer working towards a dark purpose in the Ragefire Chasm, a network of caverns beneath Orgrimmar.[1][2] After Garrosh began building his new base of power beneath Orgrimmar, most of the Ragefire Dark Shaman swore allegiance to his cause, and began training Kor'kron shamans in the art of dark shamanism.

Context

The Dark Shaman are summoning and enslaving beasts from the Firelands, succeeding with hell hounds and lava worms, sustaining them with trogg flesh.[3][4][5] They are also performing dark rituals and attempting to replicate the process for elemental ascension using energies from the Firelands. One of those attempts drove Gordoth insane and mutated his body.[6][7][8] The  [Corrupted Insignia] shows their membership to the Dark Shaman.[9]

Instead of simple robes, the dark shamans of the Dark Shaman wear ominous-looking garments more akin to warlocks. During the attack on Northwatch Hold, the Dark Shaman summoned molten giants, an act forbidden by the Earthen Ring, to crush the Alliance defenders.[10]

The Alliance considered them part of the Horde, while Invoker Xorenth assumed that they were Horde defectors.[11]

During a deep exploration, the Dark Shaman are revealed to be a secretive branch of the Kor'kron under Garrosh's orders, working on hatching proto-dragons within the greater Ragefire complex beneath Orgrimmar. It is further revealed that the dark shaman were always working in secret under Garrosh's orders but when Commander Bagran discovered them, Garrosh ordered him to kill them all to hide the truth.[12]

Two of them appear as bosses during the Siege of Orgrimmar.
