The Rakeeshi are an elite army of demons of the Burning Legion under the command of High General Rakeesh, who they are named after. Members of the force are primarily man'ari eredar, and are presumably of a very high quality, having been chosen to serve under the High General. The Rakeeshi saw action as part of the third invasion of Azeroth.

History

High General Rakeesh

During the third invasion of the Burning Legion, High General Rakeesh and his Rakeeshi man'ari eredar, along with lesser demons, launched a major assault on the Exodar, the home of the draenei on Azeroth. Their primary goal was the destruction of the naaru O'ros, who threatened to decipher the secrets of the recently-arrived Light's Heart, which could greatly advance the cause of those resisting the Burning Legion.

The city's defenders were quickly overwhelmed by the sudden and brutal attack, with the majority of the residents retreating to the relative safety of the Vault of Lights and the protection of the Light's Chosen. The Rakeeshi were initially able to occupy a great deal of the city, until the arrival of Prophet Velen and his champion who succeeded in securing gains against the invaders.

Eventually, Velen himself ventured forth to the Seat of the Naaru in order to confront High General Rakeesh and save O'ros. As he did so, the elite Light's Chosen went about purging the final remnants of the Rakeeshi from the Exodar. In a final confrontation with Rakeesh—who was revealed to have been Velen's long-lost son—the eredar general was slain, though so too was the naaru O'ros.

Following the Battle for the Exodar, the Rakeeshi remained active despite the loss of their leader. The demons established themselves on the Coast of Anguish on the southern Broken Shore, where they worked to corrupt the surrounding land using fel energies. As part of the Assault on Broken Shore, the Armies of Legionfall targeted the position and succeeded in bringing a halt to the Rakeeshi plans, as well as slaying their leader in the area, Morzuun the Plaguebringer.

Their fate after the events of the Argus Campaign and the end of the Burning Crusade remains unknown.
