The manor in Curse of the Worgen.

Three days before the Wolf Cult's attack on Gilneas City, the detective Cox went to the manor to inform King Greymane, Queen Mia and Lord Vincent Godfrey that Halford Ramsey had been killed by a wild beast in the Blackwald. After ordering Godfgey to place the towns around the forest on high alert, Genn retired to his observatory to meet the night elf Belysra Starbreeze, who confirmed that Halford was attacked by a worgen. As Genn wondered how his kingdom had fallen so low, she told him the story of the worgen curse and her responsibility in its creation during the War of the Satyr.[1]

Two days before the attack, Genn announced during a dinner that he was withdrawing once again to his observatory, but was confronted by the queen who accused him of spending more time there than with his family. She nevertheless accepted the situation, but told him to discuss it at least with Prince Liam. Father and son later met in the royal quarters, where Genn ordered him to strengthen the military security in the kingdom and to accuse the Northgate rebels of being responsible for the recent problems. At night, Genn met Belysra to discuss the difficulties he experienced with his family because of the curse, and in a fit of anger, nearly lost control until the night elf managed to calm him with the light of Elune. The priestess then continued to tell him the story of Alpha Prime and the Druids of the Pack.[2]

One day before the attack, a meeting was held at the manor where Lord Godfrey, Baron Ashbury, and Lord Walden discussed with King Greymane the disappearance of the livestocks, and the increase of disappearances and murders perpetrated across the realm. When Godfrey asked for more control in decision-making, the king refused and the tone began to rise. After Godfrey criticized the king for his handling of the crisis, but also his friendship with Lord Darius Crowley, Genn ordered all the nobles to leave before he was about to break down. At his limits, he asked his wife to make sure that he was left alone at his observatory, where Belysra barely saved him with her powers. Knowing that she wouldn't always be able to help him, Genn asked her to help the Royal Alchemist Krennan Aranas with the creation of a temporary remedy. When Belysra asked Genn to stop hiding the truth and look for allies, he refused to tell his people that their king could turn into a bloodthirsty beast, and instead asked for a strategy to defeat the Wolf Cult, to which she replied that they should pray.[3]

The telescope in the tower behind the manor.

Following the beginning of the invasion of Gilneas by the Forsaken, and the destruction caused by the Cataclysm, the worgen adventurer and the population of Duskhaven were evacuated to the manor on the orders of Mayor Gwen Armstead.[4] When they arrived, it was Queen Mia Greymane who took charge of guiding the refugees and ensuring calm inside the building. At the same time, King Genn Greymane was busy in his observatory finding a way to secure its people, until his daughter Tess came to show him a peacebloom. Despite the tense situation, she came to show him the flower as something beautiful in their misfortune, as a symbol of hope, which restored faith to the king in these dark times.[5] The adventurer was later sent to the observatory by the queen,[6] where Genn showed them that Duskhaven had also been destroyed by the earthquakes.[7] The king then ordered the evacuation towards Stormglen Village, considering his mansion as still vulnerable to Forsaken attacks.[8]

After the end of the conflicts and the evacuation of the Gilnean population to Darnassus, the mansion remained deserted.

Over a decade later, the manor returned under the control of the kingdom after the Reclamation of Gilneas. Although the royal family was not present, servants could be seen unloading luggage, while the Greymane Seneschal explained that there was still a lot of work to make the place habitable again, and that the dust alone would take weeks to be removed.[9]

Notes and trivia

  • The building does not dismount players.
  • While entering this manor from the Ruins of Gilneas, players will enter Gilneas, rather than the ruins.
  • Adventurers can clear the mansion of its NPCs by talking to the Greymane Seneschal, the Greymanes granting them this request.
  • Since patch 5.0.4, the map in the Ruins of Gilneas version of the manor was bugged, showing a blank green screen; this bug remained unfixed by the time of patch 7.3.2, but was fixed at some point later. Phasing bugs are also prominent here, especially at the entrance; it is possible for players to phase in and out of each other's sight just by shifting a small distance.
