Northgate Woods
- For other uses, see Northgate.
The Northgate Woods is a forested area in Gilneas, located north of Gilneas City and south of the Greymane Wall. The Northgate River acts as its eastern border while the road leading to the wall's entrance is its western border. There is no incentive to go here during the worgen starting experience. During the Silverpine Forest storyline, the Northern Headlands extends into this area, since the subzone does not display.
History
Cataclysm
Following the battle for Gilneas City, Forsaken forces could be found gathering in the area. The worgen adventurer was later sent to attack their catapults and soldiers bombarding the Cathedral Quarter, in order to delay the use of the New Plague while all the Gilnean refugees were evacuated to Aderic's Repose.[1][2]
Dragonflight
Over a decade later, the Forsaken troops and their catapults were once again present in both the Northgate Woods and Northern Headlands, but this time, to help the Gilnean people reclaim Gilneas City from the hands of the Scarlet Crusade during the Reclamation of Gilneas. Under the orders of Calia Menethil,[3] and after they received the signal from King Genn Greymane,[4] they bombarded the holy shields set up by the zealots in the Cathedral Quarter, creating a diversion while the Alliance troops entered the capital from the Greymane Court.[5]
Following their victory over the Crusade, the Desolate Council kept their word and withdrew their forces from the region. The Northgate Woods then returned to the control of the kingdom, and were cleared of the banners, structures, and debris left behind during the Forsaken occupation.

Notes
- The Highlands foxes and Gilnean hounds are not present in the area during the worgen starting experience.
- Simply entering the area will not reveal it during the Worgen starting experience. It is necessary to walk into the unrevealed section of the map, roughly where the letters on the map are, then relog or use
