Biography

Captain Pellerin and her crew operating in Zandalar during the Fourth War

Elizabeth Pellerin was considered a disappointment to her father, Lord Francis Pellerin, who had wanted a son to further his family legacy. But Francis was known as something of a doddering misogynistic idiot, and it was widely whispered in Boralus that the real reason House Pellerin hadn't been reduced to ruin was because Francis' wife, the Lady Eugenie, was busy cleaning up his messes. So it was no great tragedy for anyone - except maybe for Francis - when he died while Elizabeth was still an infant, the result of an infection from an injury that could easily been healed... except the best healer happened to be a woman, and he was "not about to submit to being some wench's little plaything". Eugenie became the titular head of the house after that, and remains as sharp-minded as ever; Elizabeth became the heiress apparent.

Elizabeth was drawn to the sea and ships as a child, and with her ignorant father out of the way, she was able to pursue her dream of being a sailor in the Kul Tiran navy; her grandfather, Auguste, had been an admiral who had served the Proudmoores for decades, but Francis had been both lazy and fearful of water, blocking the windows that faced water in the family estate in Boralus. Eugenie saw in Elizabeth a chance to revive House Pellerin's connection to the fleet, and Elizabeth embraced it without hesitation. By the end of the Second War, in her early 20s, she was a lieutenant. By the Cataclysm, she had risen to the rank of captain, commanding the fast frigate Pearl Queen.

Elizabeth, like many in Kul Tiras, blamed the death of Lord Admiral Daelin Proudmoore on his daughter Jaina and her decision to side with the Horde over her own people. That hatred was intensified by the massacre at Brennadam in Stormsong Valley. When Jaina ultimately became Lord Admiral, Elizabeth nearly resigned in protest, but was talked out of it by her crew, who believed they would better serve Kul Tiras by remaining in the fleet - especially now that Jaina had managed to bring back the lost fleet commanded by Jaina's brother Tandred, whose disappearance had left the fleet in a poor state of preparedness. Elizabeth ultimately relented and served for the remainder of the war; while she did not agree with the ceasefire or joining forces with Saurfang's resistance to depose Sylvanas, she chose not to oppose it.

The captain and her new steward, Donal Heskin, aboard the Pearl Queen

Elizabeth joined the pursuit into the Shadowlands, leaving the ship in the hands of her first mate, Alexander McDonnell, while she was away. Learning of the realms of the dead there, she found herself drawn to Revendreth, both to see what kind of "nobles" they had out there, and out of a morbid sense of curiosity about the fate of her father, thinking that a land where the prideful were to be taught humility or cast to oblivion would be the ideal place for him. Sure enough, Francis was indeed there, his spirit drained and mind crazed by the constant anima tithing instituted by SIre Denathrius. His attitude, however, had not changed a whit. He was able to recognize her almost instantly, despite the fact that she had been an infant when he died. He mocked his only child for "playing dress-up and trying to do man's work", and babbled insanely about being glad there were no oceans in Revendreth. Elizabeth could not help but mock him right back, saying that his body had been buried at sea by her mother when he died, his corpse feeding the fish, with no memorial to his memory... and that if his mind had not been so narrow, he might still be alive. She had known instinctively that Francis would never accept her in life, despite having never known him, but saw that even in death, her father was a fool. After the war was over, Inquisitor Drastiya - one of the Accuser's judges - admitted that there was "not much we can do with this one", and Elizabeth watched as the tattered remnants of her father's spirit was eased into oblivion. That gave her a great deal to think about when she returned home to Kul Tiras.

Back in Boralus, Elizabeth returned to her ship - McDonnell having kept it running smoothly for her - and prepared to settle back into the routine of roving at sea. It was around then that she had a request from Sir Eran Heskin, a Stormwind knight she had met during the Second War, some thirty years earlier. Heskin's sixteen-year-old grandson, Donal, had reached a point in his life where he was looking for purpose, and it had been suggested that Elizabeth take him aboard her ship in whatever capacity she saw fit. Meeting with the boy in Stormwind, Elizabeth agreed to take him aboard as her personal steward, seeing to her needs aboard ship and running errands as needed, while also teaching him the finer points of using a blade. She did not hold back, choosing to treat him as she would any other greenhorn member of the crew, and was impressed by his quickness to learn, and glad the crew came to embrace the "pampered lion cub" as one of their own as the years went by.
