Archmage Adesse Surrette was a "cheerful pyromancer" belonging to the Kirin Tor. Orphaned and sent to train in Dalaran at a young age, she fled across the Great Sea with Jaina Proudmoore during the rise of the Scourge, she returned to Dalaran for the war against the Lich King, and offered her services in every conflict since.

Biography

Born in the village of Corin's Crossing in the Eastweald of Lordaeron (now the Eastern Plaguelands), Adesse Surrette was orphaned at a young age and raised in the household of the village magistrate, Ezekyle, and his wife Verity, the parents of the paladin Saavedro of Stratholme. Her magical talents awakened at an early age, and Magistrate Ezekyle arranged for Adesse to be trained by the Kirin Tor of Dalaran. She never forgot Ezekyle's kindness in her childhood, nor his admonition not to forget, even as she advanced within the Kirin Tor, that she came from the "common clay" of humanity. While in Dalaran, she developed a fascination with the high elves of Quel'Thalas, and began to adopt Thalassian fashion.

Adesse fled across the sea to Kalimdor with Jaina Proudmoore when the Scourge destroyed Lordaeron and Dalaran, and settled for a period in the new city of Theramore on the southeastern coast. But when Dalaran returned as the "base" for the war against the Lich King, she returned to the Kirin Tor and served throughout the conflict alongside her classmate Alieth Taldir, whom she privately derided as a bloodthirsty lunatic. Both women were honored by the Kirin Tor and the Argent Crusade for their part in the conflict. Given her more even temperment compared to Alieth, Adesse was elevated to the rank of Archmage first. She offered her services to Stormwind and the Alliance during the Cataclysm, the war for Pandaria, and the campaign on Draenor.

While fighting the Legion in the Broken Isles, Adesse also found herself hunting down Alieth, who had become a rabid human supremacist in her native Stormwind, and then mysteriously vanished. Sent to Stormwind by the Kirin Tor to investigate, Adesse followed her trail back into the Plaguelands of Lordaeron...to find that Alieth had been killed and corrupted by the shadow priest Sekhesmet of Stratholme, Saavedro's former mentor, who had himself been restored to his "true" undead form.

With the focus of the war with the Legion turning to Argus, Adesse joined the entourage of the ancient draenei priest Po'gaenus the Exalted to aid the Army of the Light on the blighted world of the eredar. To her surprise, the confrontation she had expected with Alieth never materialized - the mad mage was killed before that happened - but the battles she experienced against the Legion were no less gruesome, and she returned from the campaign hoping and praying such things could never happen again...though she knew full well that they would.

From the death knight Admiral Eliphas Aximand, Adesse learned of Saavedro's actual fate - no peace of death, but corruption and darkness as the demented Forsaken void-priest Shankolin Blightpath. With the war becoming more and more ugly by the day, Adesse has made a pledge: To end his existence and grant the noble man who had once been her foster brother the peace of death forever. However, much to the surprise of those who expected him to play a larger role in current events, "Father Shankolin" has once again vanished, and Adesse suspects that he will somehow resurface...
