Eldex the Foxwolf is a vulpera shaman and veteran caravaneer, taking his nickname from the wolf-skin robe crafted for him during his explorations of Kalimdor.
Biography
Hailing from the deserts of Vol'dun, Eldex took over his parents' caravan wagon at a relatively young age, and traveled the trails until he could do so blindfolded. Though he tended to be wary of Zandalari exiles, he nonetheless worked with a number of exile groups - those who didn't tend to be hostile - and helped to supply them when he could. Among the exiles he would meet was a witch doctor named Valkia'jin who recognized that he was touched by the elements. She taught him the rudiments of shamanic magic, and he learned relatively quickly.
When the vulpera were preyed upon by the Faithless sethrak, and later by the Alliance, Eldex's caravan was caught in the line of fire; one of his caravan guards, a stealthy blade-wielder named Vilaya, lost her parents in an Alliance attack. During that same period, the Horde - seeking to recruit the Zandalari for their war effort - began helping the vulpera in their conflict with the Faithless, which ended in the death of Emperor Korthek. After the Faithless were defeated, Eldex returned to traveling the dunes. Sometime later, he encountered Valkia'jin again, glad to see she was alive and had returned to her people; she was accompanied by another Zandalari with a skull mask, whom Eldex recognized as a priest of Bwonsamdi. He had come to recruit Vilaya for his work.
After dropping Vilaya at the Necropolis in Nazmir, instead of returning to Vol'dun, Eldex traveled with Valkia'jin to Zuldazar, and decided to see the world beyond, taking the ship from Zuldazar to the Echo Isles. During his travels in the Barrens, he defended himself against a wolf attack on the trail; he took the pelt back to the Crossroads and had it fashioned into an outfit, including the wolf's intact skull as his helmet. From then on, the people in the Horde towns he visited on his travels took to calling him "the Foxwolf".
Using his knowledge of desert terrain, Eldex volunteered his services to the fight against the "Black Empire" in Uldum, far to the south, where he again teamed up with Valkia'jin. Outside Ramkahen, they were attacked by a massive Faceless creature. Working together, they slew the monster, but Valkia'jin was mortally wounded. With her dying breath, she gave Eldex her hammer, to "direct da fury of da desert upon our foes". Eldex swore to wield it with honor.
