"The Emperor's death was not the end of our clan. It was the beginnin' of our freedom. We ne'er knew he was plannin' with Moira ta break the hold the Firelord 'ad o'er us. How could we? No' a soul could be trusted back then. I sincerely 'ope we've earned it by now."

Senator Aongus Doomlight is a priest of the Dark Iron clan who was among the original exiles following the War of the Three Hammers.

Biography

There are a number of Dark Iron dwarves who have lived long enough to remember Ironforge. Aongus Doomlight is one of them.

Though relatively young at the time of the War of the Three Hammers, Aongus remembers enough - and spent the better part of the next two-and-a-half centuries mourning the foolishness of the Thaurissans and their willing enslavement to Ragnaros. He and his wife, Feera, both became priests during their exile, and raised their daughter, Embervina, to hope for the day when that exile would end - when they would be embraced by the other clans again, and freed from the shackles of the Firelord.

That opportunity came in the form of Moira Bronzebeard, the daughter of King Magni of Ironforge, who worked together with (and eventually married) Emperor Dagran Thaurissan to achieve that very goal. The Alliance, interpreting Moira's departure as a kidnapping, came to the depths to "rescue" her, killing the Emperor and most of the Shadowforge Senate. Aongus himself nearly fell but for the quick thinking of his wife and daughter; Feera sacrificed herself to protect him, while Embervina nursed him back to health. With the Emperor dead and Moira having given birth to his heir, Dagran II - who could be both King of Ironforge and Emperor of Blackrock - Aongus realized that the cause he had hoped for was not so lost after all. Rather than seeing it as a cause for despair, he saw the Emperor's death and Moira's ascendancy as the first sign of hope in more than two hundred years... a sign that would herald the fall of Ragnaros, during the conflicts of the Cataclysm.

With the Dark Irons opening a dialogue with the Alliance through their Bronzebeard cousins, Aongus gave his blessing to Embervina as she left the mountain with Thaelin Darkanvil to travel to the alternate Draenor. He did not see her again for several years, her having been caught up in the last invasion of the Legion, a new war with the Horde, and a battle against the realms of death itself. When she finally returned and told the tales of what had occurred, Aongus was intrigued enough to finally leave the mountain himself, venturing first to Stormwind, and from there to his birthplace, Ironforge, for the first time since his exile.
