- — Nat Pagle[1]
Nat Pagle is one of the most famous fishermen in all of Azeroth. Having licensed his own line of fishing equipment, Nat can be found in several locations around the world, offering training to aspiring fishermen who seek him out.
Biography
World of Warcraft

He states he has no particular interest in fishing, but has been fishing for 20–30 years.[2] He also says that fishing is "a great excuse to drink ... heavily", and therefore he enjoys the occasional drink now and then.[3] He tasked adventurers with fishing several fishes from around the world, upon which he taught them fishing.[2] He taught even adventurers from the Horde, sent by his friend, Lumak.[4] Grimnur Stonebrand in Ironforge also called him friends.[5]
In the past, Nat was in Zul'Gurub but left his tackle box and measuring tape there. When adventurers raided the place, they found the tape and returned it to Nat. He said it is his favorite measuring tape and shared lures information about the hydra Gahz'ranka at Pagle's Pointe.[6]
Old Hillsbrad

In the Escape from Durnholde Keep instance in the Caverns of Time, Nat is seen fishing alongside Hal McAllister on the southern dock of Southshore. Nat tells McAllister about his dreams of events that will happen in the future, like Tarren Mill being overrun by the undead, Arthas killing his father, Thrall escaping from Durnholde Keep, Tigule inventing the first ice cream, Archimonde being killed by "floating light things" (in that dream, Nat was a female night elf), and Nat himself becoming a world-famous fisherman and moving to Kalimdor. McAllister scoffs at every dream, which ironically are all to come true.
The Gods of Zul'Aman
He's got a reputation of having knowledge about sea monsters such as Tethyr. While Babs Fizzletorque didn't believe in the monsters, "Dirty" Michael Crowe did and sent Alliance adventurers to speak wtih Nat about them.[7] Nat struck a deal, he would tell them about the monsters if they would coat themselves in a paste he was using for his baits and swim in the water. After that, he gave them drink[8] and told them that Tethyr was real and to work with Major Mills if they wanted to kill Tethyr.[9]
Cataclysm
During the Cataclysm, Nat helped defend Sethria's Roost in Mount Hyjal against the minions of Ragnaros.[10]
He also occasionally makes an appearance on the Darkmoon Island at the Darkmoon Boardwalk overlooking the sea.
Mists of Pandaria

Nat made an appearance at Anglers Wharf, off the southern shore of the Krasarang Wilds. He has affiliated himself with the Anglers alongside his buddy John "Big Hook" Marsock. He reprised his role as a fishing trainer but is also the Anglers' quartermaster.
Warlords of Draenor
During the war in Draenor, Nat was asked to join the Garrisons of the Horde and Alliance in Frostwall and Lunarfall from Pandaria. He can also become a follower.
He could also be seen watching fights between garrison commanders in the Coliseum of Highmaul.
Legion
During the third invasion of the Burning Legion, Nat was in Val'sharah and found fish, being whipped into a frenzu of the coast. He quickly came to Dalaran to ask the adventurer to help dispatching the fish at the Gloaming Reef. They arrived there via boat. The small isle was filled with murlocs, and Nat ordered the adventurer to kill the murlocs, after which they started fishing the frenzies, until the fished up Mglrrp, which the hero killed. After its death, Nat began hacking at Mglrrp's head, intending to have Marcia Chase change the lure to a fishing rod.[11]
Nat was also fishing at Ashamane's Fall in Val'sharah.
Dragonflight
He later traveled to the Dragon Isles, where he could be seen fishing near the Mallakh in the Ohn'ahran Plains.[12]
The War Within
During the Bronze Celebration, Nat could be found fishing at Wavestrider Beach, directly north of the Caverns of Time.

- Gossip
If you ask me, the best part about fishing is its slow pace. It gives one time to think, to reflect on past events and to plan for future ones.
Oh, and it's also a great excuse to drink. Heavily.
Old Hillsbrad
- Nat Pagle says: Hal...
- Hal McAllister says: Yea, Nat?
- Nat Pagle says: Had that dream again last night...
- Hal McAllister says: Which one?
- Nat Pagle says: So I'm on some mountain with some big ol' tree. Bunch of elves runnin' around all over...
- Nat Pagle says: Out of nowhere, some 300 foot tall demon or somethin' walks up and starts climbin' the tree...
- Nat Pagle says: And if that weren't crazy enough, that big demon gets killed by a bunch of little floating light things... Oh, I was also a female elf in that one... Yep...
- Nat Pagle says: I can't even believe this one... You know that loud-mouthed ruffian, Tigule?
- Nat Pagle says: Well in this dream, he somehow end[sic] up inventing something called ice-cream and flavoring it with strawberries... Well, long story short, he ends up striking it rich!
- Nat Pagle says: If that weren't crazy enough, he decides to quit the ice-cream business and become an adventurer... He traveled all over the place and finally disappeared into some portal. I woke up in a cold sweat after that one...
- Nat Pagle says: This one's real grim... So the king's kid, Arthas... Well he goes out to battle evil, along with Uther... *Nat pats his brow dry*
- Nat Pagle says: But tragically, Arthas is consumed by the evil and becomes evil himself...
- Nat Pagle says: Well, he comes back to the king all pretendin' to be nice, draws his sword, and runs the king through, elbow to ... well you know... kills him on the spot.
- Nat Pagle says: In this dream, I was fishin' master of the world. I moved to some place called Kalimdor...
- Nat Pagle says: And people from all over the world come to me to pay homage... and learn to fish.
- Nat Pagle says: I'm like some kind of fishing god...
- Nat Pagle says: That one dream... The crazy one. Remember?
- Nat Pagle says: Tarren Mill is destroyed by some crazy force of undead and forever more becomes an enemy to Southshore.
- Nat Pagle says: Could ya imagine such a thing, Hal? Could ya?
- Nat Pagle says: That one where I'm in Durnholde and that one orc that Blackmoore keeps as his personal slave breaks out...
- Nat Pagle says: He ends up destroying the whole keep, freeing all the orcs we're keeping in the camps, and rising to power as the king of orcs... Warchief or somethin'.
- Nat Pagle says: Crazy, isn't it?
- Nat Pagle says: That one where thousands of people are all watching us from up in the sky...
- Nat Pagle says: We're like their puppets - we dance and cry and fight and say silly things for their amusement.
- Nat Pagle says: Sometimes, even when I'm awake, I think they're watching us. Maybe they're watching us right now...
After each dream description (except for the one about Nat becoming a "fishing god"), Hal McAllister will reply to him with one of the following:
- Nat, Nat, Nat...
- Impossible!
- It'll never happen, Nat.
- What you got in that pipe, Nat?
- Nat, I've heard a whopper or two in my day but that one takes the cake.
- I worry about you sometimes, Nat.
- No way.
- Shut up and fish, Nat.
The description of the ice cream dream originally mentioned both Foror and Tigule, rather than just Tigule:
- Nat Pagle says: I can't even believe this one... You know those two loud-mouthed ruffians, Foror and Tigule?
- Nat Pagle says: Well in this dream, they somehow end up inventing something called ice-cream and flavoring it with strawberries... Well, long story short, they end up striking it rich!
- Nat Pagle says: If that weren't crazy enough, they decide to quit the ice-cream business and become adventurers... They travel all over the place and finally disappear into some portal. I woke up in a cold sweat after that one...

In the TCG
He wrote Nat Pagle's Field Guide to Aquatic Life.[14]
In Hearthstone
Nat appears as a legendary card in Hearthstone. His flavor text reads: "Nat Pagle, Azeroth's premier fisherman! He invented the Auto-Angler 3000, the Extendo-Pole 3000, and the Lure-o-matic 2099 (still in testing)."
A corrupted version of Nat, known as Nat, the Darkfisher, appears as a legendary card in the Whispers of the Old Gods expansion. His flavor text reads: "You can take away his humanity, but you will never take away his fishing pole."
Notes and trivia
- He never fancied the Draenor draenei fishermen.[15]
- After studying the crocolisk species for many years, Nat determined that baby crocolisks are mostly harmless.[16]
- Nat Pagle possesses, used, or licensed many items:
[Nat's Lucky Fishing Pole],
[Nat Pagle's Extreme Angler FC-5000],
[Nat Pagle's Extreme Anglin' Boots],
[Nat's Measuring Tape],
[Nat Pagle's Broken Reel],
[Nat Pagle's Fish Terminator],
[Arcanite Fishing Pole],
[Nat's Hat],
[Nat's Drinking Hat],
[Nat Pagle's Guide to Extreme Anglin'],
[A Thoroughly Read Copy of "Nat Pagle's Guide to Extreme Anglin'."],
[A Complete Copy of "Nat Pagle's Guide to Extreme Anglin'."],
[Page from Nat's Fishing Journal],
[Nat's Fishing Journal], and
[Nat's Hookshot].
- There used to be many booze bottles found at Pagle's Pointe in the original Zul'Gurub instance, which was presumably a former fishing spot of his.
- In early Legion development, he was a judge in the Cooking Tournament in Dalaran.
- The name of this NPC is a reference to the Blizzard Game Designer Pat Nagle[17] who is rumored to share the same habits as Nat Pagle: drinking and fishing.[18] When Alex Afrasiabi was creating the original profession trainer NPCs, he asked Nagle if he could name the fishing trainer after him, and Nagle told Afrasiabi that he could do whatever he wanted. Nagle reflects that things took off from there and that his namesake is now way more famous than he is.[19]
- He has an invisible Follower recruiting spell with the following description:
Follower: Nat Pagle — Nat Pagle is Azeroth's greatest fisherman. He also enjoy's the occasional drink now and then.
- While the quest recruits him directly,
[Contract: Nat Pagle] was also created during development.
