“Unto you is charged the great task of keeping the purity of time. Know that there is only one true timeline, though there are those who would have it otherwise. You must protect it. Without the truth of time as it is meant to unfold, more will be lost than you can possibly imagine. The fabric of reality will unravel. It is a heavy task--the base of all tasks of this world, for nothing can transpire without time.”
The bronze dragonflight is a draconic organization primarily led by the eponymous bronze dragons to uphold their creed to the world. They are led by the wise Nozdormu, whom the titan Aman'Thul blessed, along with his brood, with the ability to time travel and mastery of temporal magic. Generally stoic and detached from 'current' events, they are rare to interact with mortals unless they require help in safeguarding the one true timeline. Since the world was young, the bronze dragonflight has safeguarded the winding labyrinth, monitoring the shifting timeways to ensure that the delicate balance of time is upheld.[2] Their nemeses are the infinite dragonflight, a growing faction of discontent bronze dragons who believe they should change rewrite the timeline, changing the course of history to make a better future.[3]
Prior to the fall of Deathwing, they could see the past and future with perfect clarity, as well as all the countless tributaries of alternate universes and timelines.[4] When the Lord of Time sacrificed his powers, the bronze dragons could still travel the timeways, but didn't have that perfect knowledge anymore,[3] and lost the ability to control the flow of time.[5][6] The flight eventually reformed the Keepers of Time into the Timewalkers, a group that incorporated mortals, who have since helped them uphold the timeways. After the blooming of Amirdrassil, Nozdormu was empowered once more as the Aspect of Time by Azeroth herself, while the bronze dragons seemingly recovered their long-lost powers. The Temporal Conflux is the seat of power and home[7] of the bronze dragonflight on the Dragon Isles.
Culture
Bronze dragons exist to keep the time stream inviolate and the order of events progressing as the fates intended.[8] Considered to be protectors, the bronze dragonflight find themselves greatly attracted to areas of civilization. They display great cunning in all things and are very patient by nature, always relying on observation and acting with a plan before being hasty.[9] They are very sensitive to the flow and ebb of the time stream, especially Nozdormu's prime consort, Soridormi, who was reportedly the first to recognize the minute ripples of corruption occurring within the pathways from the infinite dragonflight's interference.[10]
Few can truly grasp the flight's ability to exist outside of time itself. For the mortals, the path is linear and predictable, with the present offering their only opportunity for change. For the bronze dragons, however, the past, present, and future are infinitely accessible and infinitely corruptible. For this reason, Keeper Ra charged the flight with protecting the pathways from any who would seek to meddle with the keystone moments of Azeroth's history. Given the enormity of their charge, the bronze spend most of their lives navigating time itself rather than meddling in the present mortal affairs. This makes them the most elusive flight to encounter, but their fascination with Azeroth's history makes them staunch defenders of her ongoing future.[11]
According to Soridormi, since there are trillions of trillions of trillions of timeways, all existing in parallel to the main timeline, the bronze dragons cannot maintain all these alternate realities. Instead, the bronze dragonflight keep Azeroth's timeway tidy and unbent, and the best they can do is straighten the timeways when they coil too closely into the main timeline. Fortunately for them, most timeways are not threatening, since they extend across dimensions that are distant from and askew to the main timeline, with no threat of ever crossing over. However, if this should happen, it is their duty to repair the Time Rifts.[12]
The bronze dragonflight's control over time is a power many would like to abuse; the infinite dragonflight has fought them often for this reason, while the Burning Legion tried to take control of the Bronze Dragonshrine during their third invasion, though they were stopped before.[13]
Bronze dragonkin are sometimes referred to as Amber. When taking a humanoid form, most bronze dragons prefer to transform into gnomes,[14] though human, quel'dorei, and dwarf guises are also common.
All bronze dragons know how they eventually die.[15] Though many mortals judge the visions of the titan Aman'Thul as a curse, the bronze see such knowledge as a mere consequence of serving the one true timeline.[16] Trying to prevent this for personal reasons would be an abuse of their powers and goes against everything the flight stands for.[17]
While the Caverns of Time are the flight's home in Kalimdor, Tanaris Desert is their province.[8] In their ancestral homeland, the Dragon Isles, the Temporal Conflux is their seat of power and home, where its vast libraries of knowledge contain the secrets of the timeways, as well as the Bronze Oathstone, which symbolizes the flight's true calling — the protection of the timeways.[18] Within the temple, the oathstone focuses the bronze dragons' power and allows them freedom to travel to whichever time they need to.[19] The Sacred Hourglass is also located here.[20]
Nomenclature
Members of the bronze dragonflight occasionally have names ending in "dormu" for males, or "dormi" for females, though exceptions exist. Sometimes terms relating to time find their way into their names as well.
The Timewalking vendors also have names differing from the usual nomenclature, such as Xia and Kiatke.
Membership
- Main article: Bronze dragon
The bronze dragonflight is primarily made up of, as the name implies, bronze dragonkin. These include the bronze dragons themselves, but also drakonid and dragonspawn. The dracthyr were also recruited into the flight from Algeth'ar Academy, with some also joining the Timewalkers. The Scale of the Sands is a secretive subgroup of the flight led by Soridormi, prime mate of Nozdormu.
A few mortal individuals in service of the bronze flight, possibly dragonsworn, refer to themselves as Watchers, including Baristolth of the Shifting Sands,[21] Jonathan the Revelator,[22] Ralo'shan the Eternal Watcher, and Xarantaur. These individuals have been granted immortality in order to serve the needs of their draconic patrons. After losing their aspectral powers, one of the main arms of the dragonflight, the Keepers of Time, reformed into the Timewalkers.[23] This group is extensively made up of both dragonkin and mortals, patrolling the timeways to keep them safe from nefarious forces who tried to take advantage of the flight's mortality after the fall of Deathwing.[24]
History
Charge of the Dragonflights
According to legends, satisfied that the small world had been ordered and that their work was done, the titans prepared to leave. But before they departed, they charged the greatest species of the world with the task of watching over Azeroth. In that age, there were many dragonflights. Yet there were five flights that held dominion over their brethren. It was these five flights that the titans chose to shepherd the budding world. The greatest members of the Pantheon of Order imbued a portion of their power upon each of the flights' leaders. Aman'Thul, the Highfather of the Pantheon, bestowed a portion of his cosmic power upon the massive bronze dragon, Nozdormu. He gave him the mission to guard time itself and police the ever-spinning pathways of fate and destiny. The stoic, honorable Nozdormu became known as the Timeless One.[25]
In truth, in Azeroth's ancient past, the Dragon Aspects proto-dragons stood united against a foe who threatened their entire species: the bloodthirsty Father of Dragons, Galakrond. Nozdormu was one of the more intelligent of proto-dragons, capable of broken speech unlike most of the other, more animal-like of his kind. Alongside Alexstrasza, Ysera, Neltharion, Malygos and the Keeper Tyr, Nozdormu faced Galakrond and the not-living. After killing Galakrond, Nozdormu and the others were approached by the other Keepers, and Tyr suggested empowering the proto-dragons to make them defenders of Azeroth, as they proved they were able to stand for the planet. Only Odyn disagreed and forbade the other Keepers from proceeding with that idea, but they decided to go against him. They reached out to the Pantheon and each of the titans blessed the proto-dragons with a portion of their vast power, channeled through the Keepers. They became majestic beings called dragons, and among them, Nozdormu became the Aspect of Time while his bronze dragonflight was charged with the task of watching over the timeways, lest any force should threaten its perfect tranquility. One of their first acts was to encourage the rumor that the titans created them from Galakrond, to prevent the truth about Galakrond from leaking, to ensure no one would follow in the behemoth's footsteps.[26]
The time following this came to be known as the age of dragons, when the civilization of dragonkind was at its peak.[27]
The Winterskorn War
When fallen Keeper Loken instigated the Winterskorn War, fought between the Winterskorn vrykul and the earthen, Tyr and his called upon the Dragon Aspects for aid. The noble Aspects grew enraged upon seeing so many dead titan-forged, even more when they learned that proto-dragons had been enslaved. Much as they had done in the fight against Galakrond, the Aspects worked in unison to overwhelm the vrykul army, unleashing their powers on the Winterskorn's iron ranks. Among them, Ysera and Nozdormu combined their powers to create a spell that would bring a decisive end to the conflict, enveloping the Winterskorn in a cloying mist that caused them the titan-forged to fall asleep. These incapacitated creatures were then locked away in tomb cities across northern Kalimdor, where they would not know the peaceful slumber of the Emerald Dream, but instead they would languish in a timeless, unconscious slumber for thousands upon thousands of years.[28]
War of the Scaleborn
Twenty thousand years ago, under the lead of the Primal Incarnates, the Primalists proto-dragons joined together to resist the influx of titanic influence and demanded that Keeper Tyr be exiled from the Dragon Isles. When Nozdormu and the Aspects refused, it sowed the seeds of rebellion for the Primalists,[29] and over the years, what began as a difference of opinion gradually grew into hard feelings, which divided dragonkind and ultimately led to the War of the Scaleborn, in which the bronze dragons participated.[30]
Visage Day
Over the years, Nozdormu helped countless members of the bronze flight prepare for their Visage Days—the ceremony in which dragons decide what their mortal form will be. The young bronze dragon Chronormu, who could not make up his mind about what visage he would choose, at one point sought out Nozdormu at the Bronze Dragonshrine to seek his counsel and ramblingly tried to ask if he could reveal what visage the future Chronormu would choose. However, since this choice was deeply personal, the Lord of Time would not say anything that might sway Chronormu's decision and instead advised him to seek out other dragons—friends or otherwise—to learn how they made their choices. When the day of the ceremony arrived, Nozdormu was in attendance at Wyrmrest Temple—as befit the Visage Days for members of his flight—and announced the beginning of the ceremony and the arrival of Alexstrasza, who officiated the event. After it was revealed that Chronormu had chosen the form of the female gnome Chromie, Nozdormu told her that she had made a wise choice (though he refused to say if he'd known all along what her decision would be).[31]
War of the Ancients
Ten thousand years ago, when the Burning Legion invaded Azeroth during the War of the Ancients, the Aspect of the Earth, Neltharion, suggested creating a magical artifact to destroy the demons. The Bronze Aspect was strangely absent at the time, unable to be located even by his own flight, and so his Prime consort Soridormi, using an hourglass holding a portion of the Lord of Time's power, gave much of her mate's essence toward the creation of the Dragon Soul.[32] During the artifact's empowerment, the area where the ritual took place was surrounded by a giant, impenetrable magical barrier as Neltharion didn't want anything or anyone to stop the ritual.[33] This barrier was guarded from the inside by dragons from all flights.[34]
Amid a furious battle between the Legion and the Kaldorei Resistance, Neltharion unleashed the full might of the empowered Soul and decimated the demons, then turned the weapon against his own allies, killing hundreds of night elves and dragons alike.[35] The bronze dragons and their allies were locked under the traitor's control, until the unexpected intervention of Korialstrasz broke his concentration, allowing them to counter-attack. This proved a failure, however, and Neltharion retreated from the battlefield with the artifact.[36][37]
Though Neltharion's assault was short-lived, it had shattered the unity and power of the great dragonflights. Decimated, Soridormi and her flight were forced to abandon their mortal allies, secluding themselves to recover.[38] The Dragon Wars began just after the betrayal, leading all the dragonflights against the black dragonflight, which left the dragon race in a state of near-extinction.[39] The black dragons were hunted down and nearly annihilated,[40] and the Dragon Isles were ultimately sealed after their defeat.[41]
Following the Great Sundering, the Aspects Alexstrasza, Ysera, and Nozdormu recovered the Dragon Soul and were troubled to find that they could not destroy the weapon, neither reclaim the power they had infused into. Instead, they hid it in a remote corner of the world that would become known as the Redridge Mountains, while enchantments were also placed upon the artifact to prevent Deathwing or any other dragon from ever touching it.[42][43] The trio later visited the night elven survivors to present the devastated race a gift. The Dragon Queen planted a colossal tree that scraped the heavens, named Nordrassil, within the new Well of Eternity. Nozdormu's blessing gave the night elves the gift of immortality, and they would never age or fall prey to sickness or disease.[44] The Bronze Aspect was then not seen again until after the Second War.[45]
War of the Shifting Sands
In 975 BDP, the bronze flight was approached by Archdruid Fandral Staghelm and the night elves to assist in defeating the qiraji during the War of the Shifting Sands. The bronze dragons initially refused but reconsidered when the insectoids attacked the fabled Caverns of Time, home of Nozdormu and the bronze dragons in Tanaris. They eventually joined the fight, but even their combined power with the kaldorei was still not enough to push back the silithid and their masters, until Anachronos called upon the other flights for assistance.[46] Together, they managed to seal the insectoids away in their city of Ahn'Qiraj behind the Scarab Wall.[47] The dragons suffered few casualties such as the great bronze wyrm, Grakkarond, was lost during one of the battles.[48]
After the war, Anachronos created two mystical artifacts: the Scarab Gong and the Scepter of the Shifting Sands. He entrusted the scepter to Fandral; should the need ever arise again, he could use it to open the Scarab Wall, along with the gong. However, as his son Valstann's death still weighed heavily on him, the archdruid he shattered the scepter into several shards,[49] which Anachronos entrusted to Vaelastrasz, Azuregos, and Eranikus, while keeping a shard for himself.[47]
Battle of Grim Batol
During the Second War in 5 ADP, Deathwing led a powerful orc warlock named Nekros to the Demon Soul, which he used to enslave both Alexstrasza and the red dragonflight. Since her consort Korialstrasz could not free her, he pleaded for help from the Dragon Aspects, but they were wary of intervening, fearing that the Dragonmaw clan would destroy them or the Dragonqueen.[50][51] When Korialstrasz teleported into the Caverns of Time, the Lord of Time declined his request, and even decided to erase the visit from the timeline altogether.[52]
When Deathwing appeared during the Battle of Grim Batol, Ysera, Nozdormu, and Malygos joined the fight against their corrupted brother. Though they had rebuffed Korialstrasz's calls to help, the Dragon Aspects had not ignored hiù, keeping a close watch on Grim Batol in case an opening presented itself. As the five Dragon Aspects grappled in the sky, Rhonin and his mortal allies eventually found a flaw in the Demon Soul and destroyed it. In that moment, the power trapped within the relic escaped and returned to the Dragon Aspects, forcing the wounded Deathwing to escape.[50][53]
For ten thousand years, Deathwing's fellow Dragon Aspects had lived without the full measure of their power, and the sudden return of their strength was physically and mentally exhausting. Though most of the Aspects were eager to put the past behind them, it would be many years before they fully recovered.[54]
Third War
Like the other dragonflights, the bronze dragonflight did not play any significant role in the events of the Third War. The Horde Warchief Thrall did, however, encounter a group of hostile bronze whelps upon making landfall in the Barrens.[55] Following the Battle of Mount Hyjal in 21 ADP, Archdruid Fandral Staghelm asked for the Aspects' blessing on the new World Tree Teldrassil, but the Dragonqueen refused after Nozdormu saw the night elves' wish for their immortality as arrogant.[56]
Time Anomaly
In the aftermath of the Third War, Nozdormu mysteriously went missing yet again.[57] The red dragon Korialstrasz received the faintest of messages from the Bronze Aspect: visions of him trapped in the time stream, a helpless prisoner of a powerful time anomaly created by the Old Gods. The red consort, along with his former apprentice Rhonin, traveled to the Stonetalon Mountains to investigate this anomaly and were themselves caught within it along with the orc Broxigar. The trio was saved by Nozdormu and cast back into Azeroth, but they found themselves ten thousand years in the past during the War of the Ancients.[58]
The time travelers became entangled in the conflict themselves before another vision by Korialstrasz showed Nozdormu, fighting back against his captors by having called multiple instances of himself from different time periods to assist him.[59] The Old Gods had been manipulating Deathwing and needed his precious Demon Soul for the Legion to succeed in opening their portal to Azeroth, in turn allowing them to follow in their wake. The time-travelers assisted the other Aspects and Soridormi in the battle over the Well of Eternity and just managed to close the great portal, thwarting the Old Gods from escaping.[60] Nozdormu was then able to break free from their anomaly, rejoining the other dragons, and returned Krasus and Rhonin to their proper time.[61]
World of Warcraft
In Year 25 ADP, C'Thun awakened from his slumber after its prison was weakened by Cho'gall and the Twilight's Hammer, while behind the Scarab Wall, the qiraji prepared their legions for a worldwide assault.[62] After a thousand years, Anachronos was still guarding the Caverns of Time in Tanaris, and he knew that only the Old God could have launched such conflict against Azeroth. He also believed that once it had gathered its full strength, no one would be able to stop C'Thun and its armies.[63] His agent, Baristolth of the Shifting Sands, sought a mortal champion to recombine the Scepter of the Shifting Sands and open the Gates of Ahn'Qiraj.[64][65][66] A transcript of the final events of the War of the Shifting Sands was later shown to Anachronos' chosen champion.[67]
When the Scourge started tampering with time in Andorhal, the bronze dragonflight sent Chronormu, who set up a base of operations in the city's inn, investigating from her time pocket dimension without contaminating the main timeline.[68] She later enlisted the aid of adventurers to assist, sending them to root out Temporal Parasites which were interfering with auguration, then to help maintain her pocket dimension with trinkets of time from the ruins of Andorhal. In return for these, Chromie crafted dampeners attuned to Araj, the lich who ruled over the broken city, which severely reduced the effectiveness of his spells and played an instrumental role in his downfall.[69]
The Burning Crusade
During the invasion of Outland in 26 ADP, the Timeless One sensed a threat to his timeways after shadowy agents infiltrated the Caverns of Time, attempting to sabotage three key historical events: Thrall's escape from Durnholde Keep, the monumental battle of Mount Hyjal in the Third War, and Medivh's creation of the Dark Portal prior to the First War. In the face of this overwhelming threat, Nozdormu enlisted heroes to help him prevent the fabric of time from unraveling forever.[70] These heroes worked alongside the Keepers of Time inside the Caverns of Time, delving into the past to stop these attackers. The attackers were eventually revealed to be the infinite dragonflight.[71]
Wrath of the Lich King
During the war against the Lich King in 27 ADP, the infinite dragonflight fought with the bronze dragonflight "through time" for control of the Bronze Dragonshrine in the Dragonblight. Chronormu eventually tasked adventurers to identify the leader of the infinites with the Hourglass of Eternity,[72] which revealed the long-lost Nozdormu. The bronze dragon stated that this made no sense, then brushed it off and said that she was glad that their Aspect was alive and well, as he had left without telling the rest of the flight "where or when" he was going.[73]
When another timeway was attacked, this time during the Culling of Stratholme, Chromie enlisted the heroes to stop the infinite dragonflight from meddling with the evidence that Arthas Menethil needed to purge Stratholme. She gave them Arcane Disruptors to identify the plagued grain crates,[74] then tasked them to protect the prince and make sure he reached Mal'Ganis.[75]
The bronze dragons, represented by Chromie, later joined the Wyrmrest Accord to stop Malygos and his Nexus War.
Cataclysm era
After the Cataclysm in 28 ADP, Occulus, one of the bronze drakes guarding the entrance of the Caverns of Time in Tanaris, became corrupted and turned into an infinite drake.[76]
Twilight of the Aspects
In order to unite the dragonflights against Deathwing, Alexstrasza called upon the Aspects to gather at Wyrmrest Temple, however, the Timeless One's whereabouts remained unknown.
Following Ysera's instructions, Thrall and a green dragon named Desharin traveled to the Caverns of Time, where they learned that even the bronze dragonflight didn't know where Nozdormu was. As they searched for a way to find him, an assassin - later to be revealed as Aedelas Blackmoore from an alternate timeline - decapitated the green dragon, while Thrall was rescued by a bronze who hurled him into one of the time portals. After a few adventures in different timelines, Thrall asked the elements to help him find Nozdormu, only to realize that the Aspect had been trapped in all moments of time at once. Once he was saved from outside the timeline, Nozdormu revealed that every single event in Azeroth's history, all the harm that came to the Aspects, the Emerald Nightmare, as well as the madness of Neltharion and Malygos, were all intertwined, orchestrated by the same dark hand. In one of the potential futures, Nozdormu will become the leader of the infinite dragonflight, and while he had not yet figured out how to avoid such fate, he made it abundantly clear that he did not wish to become it.
During the Aspects' fight against Chromatus, the bronze dragons, with Nozdormu at their front, joined the battle in the Dragonblight. However, the Timeless One eventually urged his allies to retreat, stating that if they had persisted, they all would have died as he had seen this in the timelines. As they fled, Nozdormu explained that they were all born as a part of something whole, and as long as the "fifth" part remained empty, they would not be able to defeat Chromatus. Thrall eventually offered to give his spirit of earth in the battle with Chromatus, so that all five spirits of the Aspects were whole once more. Together, they renewed their attack upon the chromatic dragon, this time with a much more unified power. After the battle, Nozdormu revealed the truth about Murozond to the Aspects, then revealed he was following another thread of information. He had discovered that the Old Gods where behind this vast and dreadful conspiracy: the Hour of Twilight. Before Thrall left, each of the Aspects gave him a scale from their hides, representing what he had done for each of them, and that he could use the scales if he needed the aid of the dragonflights.[77]
Charge of the Aspects
After the Aspects channeled their energies into the World Tree Nordrassil, he found Tick and a dying Zirion, leaking the Sands of Time. When the Aspect of Time attempted to reverse time, he was shocked to discover that his powers had been predicted and countered by equally powerful spellwork. Upon learning that Zirion came back from the future, the End Time, where he was attacked by the infinite dragonflight and their leader, Nozdormu realized that he would descend into madness with the Hour of Twilight.
Shortly after the Aspects' meeting, Ysera and Kalecgos thought to use the Dragon Soul from the past to vanquish Deathwing, asking Dragonqueen Alexstrasza to convince the Timeless One. Although it was against his principles, Nozdormu admitted that he once pondered on whether he should go back in time and save the dragonflights and Malygos, and eventually agreed that sometimes life must be taken in order to preserve it. Their plan involved going to the future, defeating Murozond, and opening the timeways to allow them to retrieve the Dragon Soul during the War of the Ancients. Kalecgos later brought up the fact that the titans blessed them for a reason, to stop the Hour of Twilight, but still wondered what would become of them afterwards. The Aspects ultimately established that they were intended to preserve the gifts they were given, for time, life, nature, and magic last forever.[78]
The Hour of Twilight
“At last it has come to pass. The moment of my demise. The loop is closed. My future self will cause no more harm. Still, in the future, I will...fall to madness. And you, heroes...will vanquish me. The cycle will repeat. So it goes. What matters is that Azeroth did not fall; that humanity survived to live another day. All that matters...is this moment.”
In order to retrieve the Dragon Soul — the only thing capable of stopping Deathwing — from the distant past, Nozdormu and a group of adventurers traveled to the End Time, a vision of what Azeroth in a distant future if the Aspect of Death wasn't stopped. Their first step was to break Murozond and the infinite dragonflight's control of the timeways. The Horde heroes volunteered their lives to join Nozdormu on his quest, venturing into a future twisted reality beyond all recognition, where they ended the Lord of the Infinite together. With the timeways freed, the Lord of Time then opened a pathway to the War of the Ancients, as the Aspects needed the Dragon Soul in its purest form, not long after Neltharion had crafted it and convinced his former friends to infuse it with their energies. This time, it was heroes from the Alliance who rose to the challenge, venturing into the broken battlefields of the past to fight demons and take the artifact back to the present.[79]
As the Aspects infused the artifact with their combined might, the forces of the Twilight's Hammer rallied, surrounding the Wyrmrest Temple. On the other hand, members of the red, blue, green, and bronze dragonflights, along with forces of the Alliance and Horde, gathered at the temple to fight for control of the area, clashing with the twilight dragonflight. Hundreds of cultists and twilight dragons lost their lives, including the Twilight Father, just as many of the temple's defenders fell in battle. Their sacrifices allowed the Aspects and their allies to focus their wrath on Deathwing, with Thrall unleashing the power of the Dragon Soul to drive Deathwing away.[80]
While the heroes fought against the Destroyer at the Maelstrom, all the Dragon Aspects sacrificed all their remaining power to the artifact, ensuring that it would destroy the corrupted dragon. Their essences, combined with the element of earth that Thrall had woven into the weapon, seared through Deathwing and annihilated his tormented mind and body. Using all his powers, Nozdormu was also able to bind the fall of Deathwing in time itself, preventing the Dragon Soul's killing blow from ever being undone by the Old Gods. In the aftermath, the Aspects had sacrificed their powers, and while they would remain active in the affairs of the world,[81][82] they could no longer serve as Azeroth's protectors and passed that sacred duty on to new defenders, ushering the Age of Mortals. With the loss of Nozdormu's powers, the Dragon Soul was returned back in time to the point where it was taken.[83]
Dawn of the Aspects
During a meeting at Wyrmrest Temple, Chromie reported to the Dragon Aspects that the timeways appeared to be a state of flux, possibly due to the Dragon Soul having been taken from the past. However, Nozdormu resolutely declared that the timeways were no longer the charge of the bronze dragonflight, lying beyond even his ability to control, and that the duty of their protection now rested with the mortal races.[84] During their last meeting, Kalecgos used the Spark of Tyr to remind the Aspect of their past battle against Galakrond, emphasizing that they did not need their powers to help safeguard the world. Agreeing with him, the Lord of Time and the others resolved to continue protecting Azeroth, and that the Wyrmrest Accord would endure.[85]
Mists of Pandaria
After the rediscovery of Pandaria in 30 ADP, Chronormu gave the adventurers a pocket watch to visit the Timeless Isle.[86] There they met with Kairozdormu at the Celestial Court, where he and a contingent of Timewalkers were carrying out an investigation on the mysterious properties of the island, which was literally disappearing and appearing in different periods of time.[87] With their, Kairoz was able to empower and refine an artifact of his own creation: the Vision of Time.[88][89]
War Crimes
During the trial of Garrosh Hellscream, Chronormu worked with Tyrande Whisperwind, the prosecutor, while her companion Kairozdormu helped Baine Bloodhoof, the defendant. Both used an hourglass created by Kairoz, the Vision of Time, to show the court points in history without relying solely on the possibly faulty memories of witnesses. Unbeknownst to Chromie, Kairoz had secretly sent a message to Zaela in Grim Batol, tasking her to gather an infiltration team, while he provided her and the Dragonmaw clan with infinite dragon mounts. Near the end of the trial, Kairoz summoned alternate versions of Azeroth's heroes to fight their original counterparts, causing enough chaos in the Temple of the White Tiger to escape with Garrosh to Draenor, thirty-five years in the past. In the aftermath, Chromie explained to the assembled leaders that there was a growing faction of bronze dragons who believed they should change history to make a better future.[3]
Warlords of Draenor
After their escape, Kairozdormu brought Garrosh Hellscream to a timeway thirty-five years in the past, which he described as similar to the past of their own, but "not a perfect mirror image". Believing that Azeroth wasn't strong enough to take on the Burning Legion alone,[90] Kairoz's plan was for Garrosh to gather the orcs into a new Horde, then to cultivate an infinite number of Hordes drawn from all the timeways to destroy the demons. His fatal error came when he turned his back on the former warchief, who immediately stabbed Kairoz to death with the shard of the Vision of Time.[91]
During the war in Draenor in 31 ADP, Chronormu, Khadgar and the adventurers found the corpse of Kairoz at Time-Lost Glade in Nagrand. When his spirit suddenly attacked them,[92] it revealed that if he had unlimited access to all alternate timelines, he and the infinite dragonflight would have truly achieved infinite power, both for themselves and for the coming battle with the forces of the Legion.[93]
Legion
- Main article: The Deaths of Chromie
During the Legion invasion of Tanaris in 32 ADP, the entrance to the Caverns of Time was sealed by a protective barrier and defended with the help of the Illidari demon hunters.
At some point, Chromie revealed to an adventurer that she would die in the near future, though some time before the end of the Fourth War, however, she was supposed to die much later.[94] In order to figure out the circumstances of her mysterious death, she asked the adventurer for help at the Wyrmrest Temple.[95] While they managed to defeat The master's agents at various points in the past, they never learned who was behind the attacks, though the timelines were restored to normal.[95][96]
Battle for Azeroth
During the Fourth War in 33 ADP, Eitrigg sought to recruit the Mag'har Clans from alternate Draenor, however, the shard of Vision of Time in his possession was depleted of its energy. Upon approaching Anachronos for his help, the heir of Nozdormu merely remarked that the time had finally come for their visit.[97] Agreeing to aid the Horde in their quest, Anachronos had the artifact empowered by defeating the echoes of Gul'dan, Warlord Zaela, and Garrosh Hellscream. He then revealed that he sensed the threads of fate upon the Horde adventurer and proclaimed that they were worthy of what is to come next and that had there been any doubt he would have never allowed the shard to fall into the wrong hands again.[98]
At some point, the heroes were cordially invited by the flight at a celebration in the Caverns of Time, in order to remember the past and celebrate their adventures across Azeroth and beyond.[99]
After the Horde and Alliance arrived on Mechagon Island, Chromie traveled there and revealed to adventurers that during her travels to possible futures, she had discovered a place much like Rustbolt, but different. In this other time and place, very little was left alive, everything was machines. She then ordered them to travel to this other place and scan the memory banks of the Clockwork Giants, in order to use their data to ensure that their Rustbolt never becomes like the other place.[100]
Chromie later journeyed to the Chamber of Heart where she joined with Kalecgos, Alexstrasza, Merithra, and Ebyssian in empowering the Heart of Azeroth to save the world.[101]
The Vow Eternal
During Wrathion's research on the Dragon Isles, Nozdormu refused to even grant him an audience. After the Dragon Isles were awakening, he and the bronze dragons joined the other dragons at the Wyrmrest Temple.[102]
Dragonflight
Following the return of the Dragon Isles in 40 ADP, the Aspect of Time convened with Dragonqueen Alexstrasza, Kalecgos, Watcher Koranos, and Wrathion to discuss Raszageth's return. Though concerned about her freeing the other Primal Incarnates, Nozdormu was most concerned about the potential release of Iridikron and his hunger. Thus, the decision was made that the Dragon Aspects would seek to reclaim their lost powers.[103]
At the bronze flight's base in Thaldraszus, the Temporal Conflux, the infinite dragonflight attempted to corrupt the Bronze Oathstone, which would turn Nozdormu into Murozond. During the battle, Chronormu and Eternus fell across the timeways, leading Soridormi and the Timewalkers into the possible future where the Primalists won to find her.[104] After returning to the present, Nozdormu allowed Eternus to leave, as she had helped Chromie to escape the Black Empire and return home. When the infinite dragon promised that she would corrupt Nozdormu eventually, the latter agreed with her conclusion, however, Chromie said that she would search every timeline for a way to save him. With a smile and his confidence restored, Nozdormu told her how proud he had always been of her.[105] With the Bronze Oathstone restored, Nozdormu and the adventurer returned to Valdrakken and informed Alexstrasza that all the oathstones were now active.[106]
In a titan sanctum decorated with runes mentioning Aman'Thul, an adventurer found a swirling sphere which seemed to whisper Nozdormu's name. Upon delivering it to the Aspect, Nozdormu recognized the sphere and thought it had been lost. He recounted how after he had been empowered by Aman'Thul, great secrets had been revealed to him. He captured that knowledge within the sphere: an echo of what is, what has been, and what must always be. He hid the sphere away in a corner of every timeline so that he would always remember those words, even after he reached his fate.[107]
During the events of the Dawn of the Infinite, Chrono-Lord Deios and the infinite dragonflight invaded the Temporal Conflux, twisting the timeways to herald the rise of Murozond.[108] While Nozdormu and Chromie repelled the Infinite reinforcements, the heroes defeated Chronikar within the Sanctum of Chronology, then used a time portal to enter the timeways. While they succeeded in defeating Iridikron, however, Deios managed to corrupt the proto-dragon version of Nozdormu into Murozond, and with this single time alteration, he changed the history of Azeroth. They created a new timeline - where Tyr never died and became a infinite-corrupt version of himself that guarded the Infinite Conflux, a corrupted version of the Temporal Conflux. In order to restore Azeroth's timeline, Chromie and her allies made their way back into the past to defeat Deios, saving the future at the cost of letting Iridikron escape with the empowered Dark Heart.[109] In the aftermath, Nozdormu thanked the heroes for saving him from the fate that he thought was all but inevitable.[110]
With the help of Chromie, a meeting was arranged between Nozdormu and Eternus, in the hopes of swaying the infinite dragon to their point of view.[111] The Timeless One himself admitted that while their flights viewed the timeline differently, he hoped to discuss peace between them, and eventually asked her to help him understand as he sought to mend the rift between their people. Reluctantly, Eternus revealed that she joined the infinite dragonflight due to the death of her sister Moraidormi, and most importantly, that she was not allowed to change the past to save her.[112] Seeking to understand the infinites, Nozdormu allowed Eternus to show them the past and attempt to save her sister.[113] Through this, Nozdormu was able to make Eternus see that Moraidormi had chosen to sacrifice her own life to save a hidden bronze whelping. Upon their return to the present, the Aspect of Time revealed that as a steward of the true timeline he must always take the greater good and free will of others into account, but that Eternus had reminded him that compassion should be considered, and that the one thing he agreed with the infinites was that some events were worth changing because their hearts wished it so. In response, Eternus acknowledged that Nozdormu never wished to become Murozond, promising to speak with the other infinites.[114]
When the Primalists invaded the Emerald Dream, the bronze dragonflight arrived to help the Dream Wardens defend Amirdrassil from Fyrakk the Blazing.[115] The bronze dragons were among the allies who fought against Fyrakk's forces in the battle before the Temple Wellspring.[116] After the Blazing's death, Azeroth herself blessed the Aspects, restoring the Aspectral powers of Nozdormu.[117] Alongside his fellow Aspects, Nozdormu later formally thanked Azeroth's champions for all they've done for dragonkind and named them Champion of the Dragonflights.[118]
The War Within
In Year 42 ADP, bronze dragons established races for adventurers, as they had on the Dragon Isles,[119] while Lindormi established Challenger's Rest within the city of Dornogal -- opening a portal for heroes to access Millennia's Threshold for their adventuring. Meanwhile, Soridormi led a group of bronze researchers into Dornogal to investigate the past Visions of N'Zoth, in order to combat Xal'atath and the Void.[120][121] The adventurers helped the Prime Consort in setting up a portal through the timeways that would allow them to re-visit the horrific visions of N'zoth -- who had previously used the Black Blood as Xal'atath was now doing.[122] Once inside, Soridormi also offered to aid the heroes in delving through these dark memories with an avatar of herself.[123]
