The Scarab Gong

The Scarab Gong[34, 80.6] is a fixed device located atop the Scarab Dais in southern Silithus. It was created alongside the Scepter of the Shifting Sands by the bronze dragon Anachronos at the end of the War of the Shifting Sands to serve as a way to re-open the newly created Scarab Wall; Anachronos created the gong itself by transforming a local scarab into a metal disc. If any mortal would ever wish to pass the Scarab Wall and enter Ahn'Qiraj, they would need only to strike the scepter against the gong to open the gates.[1] Jonathan the Revelator served as its keeper.[2]
The Scarab Gong started and finished the quest [60] Bang a Gong!, at the tail end of The Scepter of the Shifting Sands quest chain during the Gates of Ahn'Qiraj world event, in which the Scarab Lord—the first player on a server to reassemble the Scepter of the Shifting Sands—would ring the gong to open the gates. The quest remained available until 10 hours had passed after the first person on the server rang the gong.
Notes
- When the Wound in Silithus was created, the gong went missing. This may or may not be intentional and may have simply been a result of the zone being wiped clean of NPCs and objects.
- During Warcraft's Anniversary, Coridormi displays a Displaced Scarab Gong in the Caverns of Time, giving all players a chance to ring the gong for themselves.
- In Hearthstone, the Scarab Lord—a rogue legendary minion—creates a Scarab Gong on the opponent's board when played. When struck, the gong fills the first player's board with Scarabs.
