Fyrakk the Blazing is one of the Primal Incarnates who lead the Primalists. Along with his brethren, he rejected the gift of the titans and turned to the elements instead, becoming an incarnation of fire. While every ounce as powerful as Iridikron, he lacks the discipline to focus that strength into singular goals and would be just as happy burning his own followers down as he would his enemies.[2] While Iridikron always had his schemes, Fyrakk has only sought out power.[2]

His visage form is an elemental.[3]

Fyrakk imprisoned in the Vault of the Incarnates.

Fyrakk was the cousin of Alexstrasza, Ysera, and Dralad. He was the one who taught Alexstrasza how to hunt.[4] Ysera had never liked him.[5] His lair was a caldera somewhere south of Dragonblight.[6]

While the proto-dragons who would become known as the Dragon Aspects accepted the gift of the titans, the proto-dragons who would become the Primal Incarnates rejected it. Tensions rose between the Primalists who wished to cleanse the world of the titans' "stain" and the dragonflights.[7] Fyrakk was the first proto-dragon to infuse himself with elemental energies, the very first Primal Incarnate.[4] Despite Fyrakk being the first Incarnate and the one who rallied proto-dragons and tarasek forces to join their army, he was usurped as leader by Iridikron.[6]

Open war between the primal and ordered dragons broke out about 20,000 years ago,[8] when Raszageth struck first by leading an assault on Neltharion and his dracthyr army on the Forbidden Reach.[9] In the battle, she destroyed Oathbinder, the titan relic which Neltharion was using to control the dracthyr. This caused Neltharion to give in to the Old Gods for the first time and use their power to seal her away within the Froststone Vault.[10]

A cataclysmic conflict ensued between Primalists and dragonflights known as the War of the Scaleborn. During the war, Fyrakk led several attacks on the Emerald Plains, clashing with his cousin Ysera and her green dragonflight.[11] Fyrakk was the first of the remaining Incarnates to be defeated and imprisoned in the Vault of the Incarnates, by a plan devised by Neltharion. He was led into a trap at the Obsidian Citadel where he fought Malygos, who had disguised himself as Alexstrasza as bait. During their fight, Malygos forced Fyrakk through a portal into the Vault of the Incarnates where the other Aspects were waiting. He was forced into a magical sleep by Nozdormu and Ysera, and subsequently imprisoned.[11]

Dragonflight

The tunnel carved by Fyrakk into the Zaralek Cavern, known as Iridikron's Gambit.

20,000 years later, Raszageth the Storm-Eater schemed to release her kin from the Vault. Though Raszageth died, she succeeded in her endeavor, and Iridikron, Fyrakk, and Vyranoth were released. Seeing how Raszageth's haste led to her downfall, Alexstrasza speculated that the Incarnates would take their time to gather their strengths first, and that Iridikron's mastery of the earth would harbor them in the meantime.[12]

Fyrakk was eager to take revenge for their sister, but Iridikron did not want to rush in and believed they needed to even the scales with the Aspects first. The Incarnates adventured to the Forbidden Reach as the last echoes of Raszageth's storm faded, where they breached an ancient vault belonging to Neltharion and found a device that would give them the location of Zaralek Cavern, the Earth-Warder's secret underground. They had no interest in the laboratory of Aberrus itself, but in the molten fire that could be found below. Scalecommander Sarkareth and the Sundered Flame followed behind them secretly to claim Neltharion's legacy.[13]

After Vyranoth deciphered the information from the device, they flew to one of the hidden entry points to Zaralek near Valdrakken, attracting the attention of Shalkeel of Clan Shikaar. Fyrakk easily disposed of the centaur and regrouped with the rest of the Incarnates, where they broke through the ground and sent Fyrakk down, blazing through the earth, to claim the elemental power below and wake the djaradin's Elders at the Zaqali Caldera.[2] There, Fyrakk bathed in a giant pool of both elemental lava and shadowflame. Despite Ebyssian and Sabellian's efforts to stop Fyrakk, the Incarnate fully infused himself with its power and used it to free the djaradin Elders. He then ravaged the niffen town of Loamm and unleashed destruction all across the Dragon Isles, while the Djaradin began to collect resources for a nefarious project.[14]

After the events of the Dawn of the Infinite, Iridikron departed and left the war against the Aspects to Fyrakk and Vyranoth. At some point, Fyrakk struck a bargain with the Druids of the Flame, where they agreed to open the way to the Emerald Dream on the condition that Fyrakk ensured that they would become immortal.[15] During this time, Fyrakk became increasingly more and more unhinged; setting his sights on the nascent world tree, Amirdrassil and even clashed with Vyranoth when he tried to burn the captured Gerithus, as she was more focused on removing the titans' iron grip on this world over causing harm to their enemies.[16] Some time later, the two reunited at Lunedane, where he revealed his bargain with the druids to her, earning her displeasure. He was unmoved by her fears that the Primalists were losing sight of their goals and declared that there was something that he wanted her to see. Under his sister's shocked eyes, he used the shadowflame in combination with the fire magics of the Druids of the Flame to corrupt Keeper Larodar. He further revealed his intention to do the same to Amirdrassil itself, a notion that disgusted Vyranoth as she wanted to deny the Aspects their prize and not twist it into some vile abomination. Fyrakk was unmoved and declared that they couldn't win the war bound by her ideals. In response, Vyranoth declared that the course was set and the pair departed from Lunedane.[17]

Unbeknownst to Fyrakk, Vyranoth, seeing that his own heart had become cruel, blazing with insatiable malice and wreathed in shadow, made the decision to warn Alexstrasza of his intentions and even agreed to stand against him.[18] Sometime after, Igira forged  [Fyr'alath the Dreamrender] from the materials they collected, which was blessed by the Druids of the Flame, and used by Fyrakk to open the way into the Emerald Dream.[19]

Guardians of the Dream

At the Wellspring of Life.

After entering the Emerald Dream, Fyrakk knowing that Vyranoth had left his side made the decision to divide her loyalists like the Claws of Vyranoth, who largely remained loyal to her with the exception of Lethka.[20][21]

At some point, Fyrakk confronted Alexstrasza, Merithra, Tyrande Whisperwind, and the adventurers and revealed his intention to take the heart of Amirdrassil and fill it with shadow and flame. They nearly came to blows, as the Blazing toyed with the thought of attacking them before deciding it would be better to humble, humiliate, and break them.[22]

Fyrakk sought the Wellspring Temple, where he desired to imbue it with his flames in order to set the Dream and Azeroth aflame. However, he was unwilling to squander his own power to shatter the barrier and relied on the Primalists to carry out the deed. When Gangshe voiced his opinion that they wasted precious time and that Dreamrender could cleave the barrier in an instant, an outraged Fyrakk killed him, which motivated the other Primalists to continue their attacks against the barrier.[23] Unbeknownst to Fyrakk, Vyranoth had decided to investigate what he was after, where in the process her loyalists returned to her side, and Lethka was killed.[24][25] Furthermore when Suzska realigned with Vyranoth, she helped undo the damage to the wellspring barrier.[26] With her claws by her side, Vyranoth returned to her allies and informed them of Fyrakk's intention.[27]

As Amirdrassil was getting ready to bloom on Azeroth, the protections around the Wellspring Temple weakened, which led to a renewed attack against the temple by Fyrakk's forces. In time, the Dream Wardens and their allies launched an assault on the Verdant Pass. In response, Fyrakk empowered Calderamor and Ignarion with his shadowflame and directly fought against his foes.[28][29]

While Fyrakk was distracted by Alexstrasza's allies, the Dragon Queen and adventurers destroyed the flame wards around the Wellspring Temple that was preventing their allies from Azeroth from entering the Dream. Upon the destruction of the last ward, Alexstrasza was attacked by Fyrakk and forced to the ground. As the Blazing prepared to kill his cousin, he was attacked by Thrall. Upon seeing that the various leaders of the Dragon Isles, Horde, and Alliance entered the Dream, Fyrakk retreated. In response, Alexstrasza called upon the defenders of the Dream to stop him.[30]

Following the death of Ashendir Hartwood, Fyrakk shattered the barrier that protected the Wellspring Temple. In response, Alexstrasza gave the order for Fyrakk's death.[31] Convinced of his ultimate victory, Fyrakk merely watched as his allies were defeated, even going as far to mock Igira for her death. When Smolderon realized that he was losing the battle against his adversaries, he called upon Fyrakk for aid. However, the Blazing refused and revealed that he wished to watch the Firelord die. Outraged, Smolderon declared Fyrakk a traitor and swore vengeance, before being slain by the champions of Azeroth.

Following his death, Fyrakk swooped down and waved  [Fyr'alath the Dreamrender] over his corpse as his flames died out, thanking him while his weapon absorbed his essence. Following the death of Tindral Sageswift, the Blazing entered Amirdrassil itself. After declaring that his time had come, that Azeroth would be reborn in flame, he vowed that the adventures would be the first to burn. However, despite his best efforts, Fyrakk was ultimately slain. Immediately following his death, Azeroth blessed the Aspects and restored their Aspectral powers, while Amirdrassil bloomed on Azeroth.[32]

While Vyranoth mourned his passing, Ebyssian felt as if the embers of his rage were carried off by the wind and wondered if he had, at last, joined the elements that imbued him.[33] At the same time, Fyr'alath would be claimed by one of Fyrakk's killers and they would ultimately have to defeat an Echo of Fyrakk in order to successfully claim the axe.[34]

Notes and trivia

  • The method that Ysera and Nozdormu used to put Fyrakk to sleep when he was imprisoned in the Vault of the Incarnates is the same tactic that they used on the vrykul in the Winterskorn War.
  • Fyrakk is voiced by Matthew Mercer.
