The Heart of Azeroth is an artifact medallion, entrusted to only the worthiest of heroes by Magni Bronzebeard, as a gift from Azeroth herself to the world's protectors. The Heart can absorb Azerite, the very essence of the world-soul which bleeds through the planet's surface, and heal the nascent titan through it. The Heart also empowers its bearer's weapons and armor and grants them new abilities. The helm, shoulders, and chest can unlock special bonuses from this.[1]

The Heart of Azeroth was ultimately used as a conduit in which the powers of the Forge of Origination, empowered by the Engine of Nalak'sha, was fired upon N'Zoth, destroying its body and Ny'alotha.[2]

The Heart of Azeroth does not confer any of its unique Azerite-related bonuses while in the Shadowlands, or any expansion beyond Battle for Azeroth; it functions as a normal necklace, granting only its stats. However, its full functionality is still intact while in previous content and in Timewalking.

This item is a quest reward from N [50] The Heart of Azeroth.

Azerite levels

Similar to the Artifact Power, obtaining [Azerite] contributed to the overall power of the necklace. The item level of the necklace is increased by 2 per level, starting at an initial 280 (during Battle for Azeroth). Certain levels of the necklace unlocks the rings that contain the Azerite traits, where items that have a fifth ring will unlock at level 15.

With patch 8.2.0, unlocking the Heart Forge raised the Heart of Azeroth to level 35 if it was below that level and will unlock a Major slot for Azerite Essences with two minor slots that unlock at levels 55 and 65 respectively. Patch 8.3.0 introduced a third minor slot which unlocked at level 75.

The Azerite level cap would increase throughout the expansion.

Patch Level cap
Patch 8.0.1 50
Patch 8.2.0 70
Patch 8.3.0 Infinite

Empowering

Removed from game The subject of this section was removed from World of Warcraft in patch 8.2.0.

Certain quests unlock after meeting a certain criteria which empowered the necklace by increasing the item level by 15. This did not increase the Azerite level.
