Ammo pouch

Ammo pouches were a type of ammo bag that could hold stacks of ammo, that is, shot or bullets used by gun-wielders (as opposed to quivers, which contain stacks of arrows used by bow-wielders and crossbow-wielders).
On its icon on the action bar where the ammo pouch was equipped, an ammo pouch would display the total number of the bullets that the ammo pouch held (the number of shots remaining), up to three digits (999), and would switch to displaying an asterisk (*) for holding 1,000 or more ammo. These did not have to be the same type of bullet, but each slot in the ammo pouch would hold only one kind of bullet.
When the currently equipped stack of bullets ran out of bullets, an ammo pouch would automatically re-equip another stack of the same type of bullet, if one existed in the ammo pouch. This way the player would not have to worry about reloading, simply placing several stacks of the same bullets in the ammo pouch. It was advisable to not mix kinds of bullets in a ammo pouch in order to avoid having shooting occasionally halt, waiting for a manual reload.
Though any character could equip and fill them, an ammo pouch primarily was of benefit to a hunter, whose role, mechanics, and attacks depended on using large amounts of ammo, especially due to the autoshoot capability. Other classes that were able to use guns, mainly as devices to just pull mobs, simply used a handful of bullets in normal bags, if not a throwing weapon.

Note: Prior to Patch 3.1.0, ammo pouches granted a haste effect, increasing the rate of fire, of 10 to 15 percent (depending on level). This was removed in Patch 3.1.0, replaced with hunters receiving a 15% boost to Auto Shot speed. The patch also increased the number of remaining shots that can be displayed on the action bar.
