The Great Vault of Dornogal

The Great Vault is a weekly reward system that provides players with an extra piece of gear for completing activities whether by killing bosses in the current raid, completing dungeons of heroic or higher difficulty (including Timewalking), and overworld activities (previously Player vs. Player). Players also have the option to collect the expansion's Token of Merit an exchange for other goods such as seasonal crests.

The interface can be accessed from the vault in the current expansion hub city (such as Dornogal during The War Within), from the Mythic+ Dungeons tab or Delve Dashboard of the Group Finder, right-clicking the icon on the world map, or by running this macro:

Known Great Vaults

First introduced in Shadowlands, the Great Vault of Oribos ^[65, 31] was described as a massive relic of the First Ones, where it was overseen by Caretaker Kah-Toll, with Ko'tul running  [Attendant's Token of Merit] exchange.

The Great Vault in the Valdrakken Treasury Hoard ^{[58.8, 57.9]} of Valdrakken was described as an enchanted vault that stores many remarkable artifacts and is overseen by Evantkis running the  [Aspects' Token of Merit] exchange.

The Great Vault in the Council's Treasury of Dornogal is a millennia-old cache of armor and weapons overseen by Ardgaz running the  [Algari Token of Merit] exchange. It used to be dormant until the arrival of outlanders.

Rewards

Each week, the Great Vault will contain up to 9 random pieces of gear based on how many raid bosses were defeated, heroic/mythic dungeons that were cleared, or world activities and/or delves that were completed the previous week. The items will be appropriate to the content; defeating raid bosses reveals raid gear, clearing mythic dungeons reveals mythic dungeon gear, and fulfilling world tasks can award delve or tier gear.

The item level of the rewards will be slightly higher than the gear that content normally provides. If it is a requirement requiring multiple runs, e.g. "Complete 2 Delves", and the player mixes varying difficulties, the Vault will provide gear based off of the lowest run.

Though up to 9 items can potentially be available, only one item may be claimed.

Should none of the items prove appealing, 6  [Algari Token of Merit] can be taken instead, which can be traded to Ardgaz nearby for various useful items like a socket-adding item.

Seasonal requirements

The requirements change from season to season. In The War Within Season 1, the requirements are:

Notes

• The Great Vault is a successor to the Grand Challenger's Bounty and War Chest used during Legion and Battle for Azeroth. The Grand Challenger's Bounty was associated with Mythic+, and the War Chest was associated with PvP.
• The last week of the final season into the next expansion will result in no rewards from the Great Vault as it gets disabled until the first season for the new expansion begins.

Patch changes

• Patch 11.0.5 (2024-10-22): Progress tooltips for the Raid row of the Great Vault have been added.
  
• Hotfix (2024-10-08):
  • Zekvir's Lair no longer rewards Great Vault credit.
  • Addressed an issue with "Special Assignment" World Quests rewarding additional Great Vault credit.
    
• Hotfix (2021-06-30): The Great Vault has returned and generates the correct item levels for Mythic+ rewards.
  
• Hotfix (2021-06-29): The Great Vault is temporarily unavailable while we resolve issues regarding incorrect item levels.
  
• Patch 9.1.0 (2021-06-29):
  • Great Vault rewards for Mythic Dungeons have been increased by 26 item levels.
  • Players who are not satisfied with the selection of gear that the Great Vault has provided them with for the week can now opt to receive a token that will let them choose from a number of alternative rewards including [Reservoir Anima], [Stygia], and [Soul Ash]. If you decide to go down this path, seek out Ko'tul next to the Great Vault to choose your reward.
  • Clicking on the Great Vault icon on the world map now opens up the Great Vault panel.
  • Selecting the token reward in the Great Vault will now display a countdown confirmation.
  • PvP cloaks, necklaces, and crowd-control trinkets now appear less frequently in the Great Vault.
  • PvP staves no longer appear in the Great Vault for Shaman.
    
• Hotfix (2020-12-18): The Great Vault's Stygia reward is now more detailed about how much Stygia it provides.
