In every barbershop, there exists one to three barbershop chairs. Sitting in one will activate the barbershop interface in which for a small fee the player can choose a new look for themselves.

- In prior expansions skin color and face customization options from character creation couldn't be changed in the barbershop.
- In expansions prior to Battle for Azeroth there were barbershop exclusive hair styles that weren't available at character creation.
- There appear to have been a number of customization options that were in development but were only added in Shadowlands.
- There were haircuts added to the game files in WoD beta but never made it to live.[1]
- A longer tail option for female draenei has been in the game files from WoD, and also exists in the files for female Lightforged draenei, but isn't avalable in-game.[2]
- There was a unreleased black haircolour for night elves in the 8.1 PTR.[3]
Patch changes
Patch 9.0.2 (2020-11-17): A new purple eye color added to blood elves and void elves.
- Patch 9.0.1 (2020-10-13): New character customizations. Gender can be changed at barbershop. Druid Forms can be changed at barbershop. Worgen can change human and worgen forms separately. Hair colors available to hero classes are no longer class locked.
Patch 8.1.0 (2018-12-11): Completing 
[In Teldrassil's Shadow] achievement unlocks a new skin color for night elves that comes with black eyes.
- Patch 8.0.1 (2018-07-17): Male orc posture added and yellow eye options for blood elf faces added. All races can now change skin color at the barbershop.
Patch 6.0.2 (2014-10-14): Facials are now customizable.
Patch 4.2.0 (2011-06-28): New hairstyles added.
Patch 3.2.0 (2009-08-04): Tauren now have the option of changing skin tone by visiting the Barber Shop.
