Acolytes are human beings who have given themselves over to the power of Ner'zhul and the Scourge. These bitter, fanatical men and women will stop at nothing to promote the Lich King's will and maintain the secrecy and dominance of the Cult of the Damned. They view their own deaths and the possibility of becoming undead as the ultimate rewards for their service to Ner'zhul.
Information
Acolytes can be sent to the Sacrificial Pit to turn them into Shades.
Acolytes do not need to maintain buildings under construction. Buildings will continue construction on their own (like StarCraft Protoss).
In order for Acolytes to summon buildings into existence, they must be built on blighted ground, with the exception of the Necropolis and Haunted Gold Mine. Blighted ground is created whenever Undead buildings are created or when a Sacrificial Skull is used. The Necropolis and Haunted Gold Mine generate a large patch of blight, whereas all other buildings create smaller patches. Blight also allows Undead units to heal outside of fountains and other healing effects and causes Undead heroes to regenerate health at a much faster rate.
When it comes to defensive building, Acolytes are worst in doing so, because the Ziggurat costs a significant amount of gold and upgrading it into the Spirit Tower costs even more resources, while the Nerubian Tower doesn't deal enough damage, along with requiring a patch of blighted ground to start off with.
Acolytes can also unsummon their buildings when the player decides to. This destroys the said building over a short period of time, but the player is granted 50% of the resources used in its construction if it not damaged during unsummoning. Acolytes automatically unsummon a Haunted Gold Mine when it has been depleted of its gold. This is typically useful when the player needs to get some resources in a hurry late-game.
Generally, the player will only need Acolytes equal to the amount of gold mines currently in use plus an additional Acolyte. The additional Acolyte is used to assist in building up your base, since taking an Acolyte off the gold mine will slow the rate at which you obtain gold. A second Acolyte may also be trained to become a Shade if necessary.
Spells and abilities
Restore (Autocast)
- Acolytes can repair Buildings and Mechanical Units automatically when Repair is enabled.
- Repairing costs Gold and Lumber. If you do not have enough Gold or Lumber you will not be able to repair.
Range | Allowed Targets | Repair Cost Ratio | Repair Time Ratio |
---|---|---|---|
5 | Mechanical, Friend, Non-Ancient, Ground, Air, Structure, Invulnerable, Vulnerable | 35% of Build cost | 150% of Build time |
Gather
- Mines gold from Haunted Gold Mines.
Gold Mining Period | Gold per Period |
---|---|
5 sec. | 10 |
Notes: Only 5 Acolytes mines gold from Haunted Gold Mine.
Summon Building
- Brings up a list of the available buildings that you may choose to summon.
Unsummon
- Unsummons a building, destroying it and refunding half the cost. Buildings are magic immune while being unsummoned.
Allowed Targets | Damage per Second | Regained Resources |
---|---|---|
Structure, Player Units | 50 | 50% |
Notes: Acolytes automatically Unsummon Haunted Gold mines after they are empty.
If you are low on resources, unsummon unnecessary buildings. Don't unsummon too much though or you'll find yourself lacking something later on until you can get another gold mine.
If an expansion is under attack and cannot be saved, Unsummon the buildings. Though this will yield reduced resources because the enemy is attacking it, some resources returned are better than nothing.
Sacrifice
- Target an Acolyte to sacrifice it and turn it into a Shade. Shades are invisible spirits that can see invisible units. Shades cannot attack.
