A Shade is created by sacrificing an Acolyte with the Sacrificial Pit. A Shade is an invisible ground unit without an attack that can see invisible units. This unit is used to spy on the enemy or to look for other invisible units.
Information
A former human, Shades serve their masters with unwavering loyalty. Shades are weaker than Acolytes in terms of durability and cannot attack, but have increased speed and are also invisible. Shades are often used to scout enemy positions, though an Orc ally with Troll Witch Doctors can keep the whole map in check significantly better due to the cheaper cost.
Professional Undead players tend to bring a single Shade with them in team matches, since the enemy team usually doesn't bring invisibility detection if they aren't an Undead player. This allows them to quickly detect invisible Mortar Teams and Blademasters.
Shades can also detect other invisible units. Other units can walk through this Shade.

Patch changes
- Patch 1.10 (2003-07-03): Shade speed increased to 350 from 270, but hit points reduced to 125 from 250.
Notes
- Though the Shade has attacking quotes, they are unable to utilize them due to the lack of a standard attack. However, grouping them with other units that can attack or modifying the Shade to be able to attack enemy units will result in those quotes being used.
