A haunted gold mine must be summoned on top of a gold mine before you can begin mining gold with your Acolytes. It does not require Blight to be summoned.[1]

Patch changes
Patch 1.10 (2003-07-03): Undead Acolytes and Night Elf Wisps that are rallied to an incomplete Entangled or Haunted Gold Mine will now automatically begin to mine once the structure is completed. 
Patch 1.01 (2002-07-05): Hit points increased to 950 from 800.
