Step beyond the Dark Portal...

The Burning Crusade campaign covers the zone and patch storylines of World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade (and, by extension Burning Crusade Classic).

Prelude - Draenei and blood elves

The Burning Crusade loading screen

The first storylines to be added are related to two new races - draenei and blood elves - and their starting zones.

Alliance Crest Azuremyst Isle

Main article: Draenei starting experience
Main article: Azuremyst Isle storyline

The beautiful, mist-covered island off the coast of Kalimdor, whose pristine beauty was disturbed by the Exodar crashing here. Draenei playable characters start here. The main enemies are corrupted wildlife and the Bristlelimb tribe of furbolgs.

After finishing, the player is sent north to Bloodmyst Isle.

Horde Crest Eversong Woods

Main article: Blood elf starting experience
Main article: Eversong Woods storyline

The forest on the northernmost peninsula of Lordaeron, magically locked in perpetual autumn, and scarred by the invasion of the Scourge. Blood elf playable characters start here. The main enemies are remnants of the Scourge, the wretched, and magical anomalies.

After finishing, the player is sent south, to Ghostlands.

Alliance Crest Bloodmyst Isle

Main article: Bloodmyst Isle storyline

The mist-covered island north of Azuremyst Isle. Much of its native flora was infected by radiation from Exodar debris. The major opponents here are blood elves commanded by Sironas.

After finishing, the player is directed towards Darnassus, where they can pick any path they want - Ashenvale (Classic), Duskwood (Classic) or Wetlands (Classic).

Horde Crest Ghostlands

Main article: Ghostlands storyline

The southern part of Quel'Thalas, ravaged by undead. The main opponents here are the Scourge from Deatholme, with Amani tribe Forest trolls acting as secondary antagonists.

The Instance Zul'Aman (Classic) is located in this zone.

After finishing, the player is directed to Undercity and Orgrimmar, where they can pick any path they want - Hillsbrad Foothills (Classic), Ashenvale (Classic), or Stonetalon Mountains (Classic only).

Outland - The Shattered World

Map of Outland

The main part of The Burning Crusade was the world of Outland - a shattered fragment of the planet Draenor, currently embroiled in a three-way war between the Sha'tar and their allies, the demons of the Burning Legion and forces under the command of Illidan Stormrage.

Before the Storm

Main article: The Dark Portal Opens

The opening of the expansion is a demonic invasion through the Dark Portal, led by Highlord Kruul.

In gameplay terms, the demons will assault a number of high-level zones, and Kruul himself replaces Lord Kazzak as world boss in Blasted Lands. Also in Blasted Lands, there is a single quest to repel the invaders near the Dark Portal:

After some time, the invasion peters out and the forces of Azeroth finally push the demons back through the Dark Portal. The invasion of Outland can finally begin.

Hellfire Peninsula

Main article: Hellfire Peninsula quests

The first zone in Outland the players enter, the burned hellscape that is Hellfire Peninsula. The major enemies here are the demons, stationed at the various camps, especially in the northern part of the zone, and Fel orcs in the center and southern parts of the zone.

The Hellfire Citadel instances (Hellfire Ramparts, Blood Furnace, Shattered Halls and raid instance Magtheridon's Lair) are located in this zone. The World boss Doom Lord Kazzak is located in flying-only area in the northern part of the zone. Players should also be wary of the Fel Reaver patrolling the zone.

After finishing, the player is directed west, to Zangarmarsh.

Zangarmarsh

Main article: Zangarmarsh quests

A big marsh in the center of Outland. Filled with water, giant mushrooms, and many strange fauna, Zangarmarsh is a stark contrast to Hellfire Peninsula. The main antagonists here are naga under the command of Lady Vashj.

The Coilfang Reservoir instances (Slave Pens, Underbog, Steamvault, and raid instance Serpentshrine Cavern) are located in this zone.

After finishing, three paths open, depending on player's level. The natural progression is to go south, to Terokkar Forest. On a higher level, the player can go south-west, to Nagrand. On even higher level, the player can go north, to the Blade's Edge Mountains.

Terokkar Forest

Main article: Terokkar Forest quests

A large, spooky forest located in the southern part of Outland. The city of Shattrath is located here. There are many enemies - blood elves from Firewing Point, arakkoa from Skettis, and orcs of the Shadow Council are the most notable ones.

The Auchindoun instances (Mana-Tombs, Auchenai Crypts, Sethekk Halls and Shadow Labyrinth) are located in this zone.

After finishing, the player can proceed west, to Nagrand, north to the Blade's Edge Mountains or the Netherstorm, or east to Shadowmoon Valley.

Nagrand

Main article: Nagrand quests

Birthplace of the orcs, these fertile plains are one of the most serene areas in Outland, if not the entire game. The main enemies here are various ogres and demons.

Nagrand is the only Outland zone to have no instances whatsoever. However, some of the quests in Nagrand send the player to Auchenai Crypts.

After finishing, the player can proceed north to the Blade's Edge Mountains or the Netherstorm, or east to Shadowmoon Valley.

A timely detour - Caverns of Time

Around this level is a good time to head to a certain bronze dragon-inhabited cave in Tanaris and assist the Keepers of Time.

The dungeons Escape from Durnholde Keep and Opening the Dark Portal and the raid instance Battle for Mount Hyjal are located in the caverns of time.

The initial Caverns of Time and Escape from Durnholde Keep storyline is:

  1. N [15-30] To The Master's Lair
  2. N [15-30] The Caverns of Time
  3. N [15-30D] Old Hillsbrad
  4. N [15-30D] Taretha's Diversion / N [68D] Taretha's Diversion
  5. N [15-30D] Escape from Durnholde / N [68D] Escape from Durnholde
  6. N [68D] Return to Andormu (Burning Crusade Classic only)

The Caverns of Time are but an optional detour - after finishing up, the player should resume their previous course.

Blade's Edge Mountains

Main article: Blade's Edge Mountains quests

A mountain range whose terrain is hard to traverse. Many dragons are impaled on the rocky spires. The main enemies here are Boulderfist clan ogres, demons, and demonic cults.

The raid instance Gruul's Lair is located in this zone.

After finishing, the player can either head east to the Netherstorm or south to Shadowmoon Valley.

Netherstorm

Main article: Netherstorm quests

A shattered land, exposed to the Twisting Nether and further ruined by blood elf manaforges. The main enemies here are Sunfury blood elves and ethereals of the Ethereum.

The Tempest Keep instances (Botanica, Mechanar, Arcatraz, and raid instance The Eye) are located in this zone.

This is one of the end-of-leveling zones, as such no follow-ups are necessary.

Shadowmoon Valley

Main article: Shadowmoon Valley quests

A fel-corrupted peninsula at the south-eastern tip of Outland. The main enemies here are various forces under the command of Illidan Stormrage.

The raid instance Black Temple and the world boss Doomwalker are both located in this zone.

This is one of the end-of-leveling zones, as such no follow ups are necessary.

Initial endgame progression

The Burning Crusade is notable for having a mostly linear, but also somewhat convoluted system of instance attunements, where the player had to grind reputation, do various dungeons and raids in order to unlock the next step of progression.

Step 1 - Dungeon attunements

The first step in endgame progression is unlocking the four dungeons that are initially inaccessible, as those dungeons become necessary later.

Shadow Labyrinth

Shadow Labyrinth is the first dungeon the player can unlock, and the easiest one - all it requires is completing Sethekk Halls to obtain the  [Shadow Labyrinth Key].

The quests associated with the Shadow Labyrinth are:

  1. N [20-30D] Trouble at Auchindoun / N [70D] Trouble at Auchindoun
  2. N [20-30D] The Codex of Blood / N [70D] The Codex of Blood
  3. N [20-30D] Into the Heart of the Labyrinth / N [70D] Into the Heart of the Labyrinth
  1. N [20-30D] Find Spy To'gun / N [70D] Find Spy To'gun
  2. N [20-30D] The Soul Devices / N [70D] The Soul Devices
Shattered Halls

Unlocking the Shattered Halls is somewhat more difficult, as it involves doing a quest chain to obtain a  [Shattered Halls Key], with said quest chain involving a long-awaited grudge match against a Fel Reaver.

  1. A [70] Entry Into the Citadel / H [70] Entry Into the Citadel
  2. A [70] Grand Master Dumphry / H [70] Grand Master Rohok
  3. A [70] Dumphry's Request / H [70] Rohok's Request
  4. A [70G3] Hotter than Hell / H [70G3] Hotter than Hell

The quests associated with the Shattered Halls are:

  1. B [20-30D] Advancing the Campaign (Retail)
  2. A [20-30D] Turning the Tide / H [20-30D] The Will of the Warchief (Retail)
Caverns of Time - Opening the Dark Portal

Unlocking the second Caverns of Time dungeon merely requires that the player complete the quest chain involving Escape from Durnholde Keep instance, so if the player did not do those quests before, they have to do so now.

The quest associated with Opening the Dark Portal are:

  1. N [25-30D] The Black Morass
  2. N [25-30D] The Opening of the Dark Portal / N [70D] The Opening of the Dark Portal
  3. N [70D] Hero of the Brood (Classic)
Arcatraz

Unlocking Arcatraz requires the player to do a relatively long quest chain in the Netherstorm. The player also needs to be able to fly to access Tempest Keep at all.

  1. N [25-30] Assisting the Consortium or N [25-30] Assisting the Consortium
  2. N [25-30] Consortium Crystal Collection
  3. N [25-30] A Heap of Ethereals
  4. N [25-30] Warp-Raider Nesaad
  5. N [25-30] Request for Assistance
  6. N [25-30] Rightful Repossession
  7. N [25-30] An Audience with the Prince
  8. N [25-30] Triangulation Point One
  9. N [25-30] Triangulation Point Two
  10. N [25-30G] Full Triangle
  11. N [25-30] Special Delivery to Shattrath City
  12. N [25-30D] How to Break Into the Arcatraz
  13. N [70D] Harbinger of Doom (Classic only)

The quests associated with Arcatraz are:

  1. N [25-30D] Unbound Darkness
  2. N [25-30D] Hey There Dalliah
  3. N [25-30D] Maximum Security Breakout

Step 2 - Karazhan

Karazhan loading screen

The next step is to unlock the first raid of The Burning Crusade - the tower of Karazhan, located in Deadwind Pass (Classic). To successfully complete the attunement, the player has to complete a number of dungeons, including two that require attunements.

  1. N [70] Archmage Alturus
  2. N [70] The Contact from Dalaran
  3. N [70] Khadgar
  4. N [70D] Entry Into Karazhan
  5. N [70D] The Second and Third Fragments
  6. N [70D] The Master's Touch
  7. N [70] Return to Khadgar
  8. N [70] The Violet Eye
  9. N [70R] Assessing the Situation
  10. N [70R] Keanna's Log
  11. N [70R] A Demonic Presence
  12. N [70R] The New Directive

Merely unlocking Karazhan is not enough - to fight one of the bosses (and it is the boss that is necessary for later), the player has to do another questline to track down  [Medivh's Journal]. In order to unlock this quest chain, players need to achieve Honored reputation with the Violet Eye.

This is part of the Nightbane quest chain:

  1. N [70R] Medivh's Journal
  2. N [70] In Good Hands
  3. N [70] Kamsis
  4. N [70R] The Shade of Aran
  5. N [70R] The Master's Terrace
  6. N [70] Digging Up the Past
  7. N [70] A Colleague's Aid
  8. N [70H] Kalynna's Request
  9. N [70R] Nightbane

Step 2.2 - Gruul's Lair and Magtheridon's Lair

Gruul's Lair loading screen
Magtheridon's Lair loading screen

These two raids do not require any attunements, but are also very short, consisting of one or two boss fights each. They also serve as entry raids for this tier alongside Karazhan.

Do note that the player needs to do both of those raids in order to unlock later raids, so keep the weekly lockout in mind.

There are no quests associated with either raid, other than one that will be shown later.

Step 2.5 - Earn your Heroics

Near the end of Medivh's Journal questline, the player is told to do a pair of dungeons on Heroic difficulty. This is where reputation comes in, as unlocking the Heroic difficulty dungeons requires that the player obtain the Revered reputation with a specific faction.

Unfortunately, reputation grind is, well, a grind. The best way to earn the required reputation is to run dungeons and kill enemies and bosses in there.

Best get all five keys, since Heroic difficulty runs provide better gear, and are also necessary to unlock later raids.

Step 3 - Serpentshrine Cavern and The Eye

Coilfang Reservoir loading screen
Serpentshrine Cavern

Unlocking Serpentshrine Cavern requires that the player do two runs of Heroic Slave Pens (once to pick the quest up, once to turn it in), as well as runs through both Karazhan and Gruul's Lair to obtain [The Mark of Vashj]:

  1. N [30R] The Mark of Vashj
  2. N [30R] The Cudgel of Kar'desh - Requires defeating both Gruul the Dragonkiller in his lair and Nightbane in Karazhan - as such, the Medivh's Journal quest chain must also be completed.
Tempest Keep loading screen
The Eye

Unlocking the Eye requires that the player do 1) The Cipher of Damnation quest chain to unlock the quest chain needed. 2) A number of Heroic dungeon runs, with special limitations, culminating with a run of Magtheridon's Lair to obtain the  [The Tempest Key]:

  1. N [30] The Tempest Key
  2. N [30R] Trial of the Naaru: Magtheridon - Magtheridon's Lair

Step 4 - Battle for Mount Hyjal

Caverns of Time instances loading screen

As the player grinded reputation with the Keepers of Time, they might have picked up a quest requiring both Serpentshrine Cavern and The Eye access. Now that said access is acquired, the quest can be completed to unlock the final raid in the initial release of The Burning Crusade.

Headbutting heroes

Outland is home to several World PvP activities, along with a new Battleground. Doing these activities generally provides zone-wide buffs. While they can be done at non-max level, players should know that they would stand no chance against max-level adversaries.

Hellfire Peninsula - Hellfire Fortifications

The Hellfire Peninsula PvP activity involves capturing a trio of strategic points: the Overlook, the Stadium and Broken Hill. The points can be captured by simply standing next to the capture points with PvP mode enabled and no players of opposing faction nearby, with the capture going faster the more players are capturing. Capturing all three of those grants a zone-wide buff [Hellfire Superiority], that carries over into Hellfire Citadel instances. The points do not "lock-in" and as such can repeatedly change hands.

Zangarmarsh - Twin Spire Ruins

The Zangarmarsh PvP activity involves capturing the Twin Spire Ruins at the center of the zone. Capturing the ruins is a two-step process - first, the players need to capture both beacons at the sides of the ruins, which is done the same way as in Hellfire Fortifications above. Once both beacons are captured, the players need to collect a flag from their respective Field Scout and deliver it to the central tower. Upon capturing the ruins it will "lock-in" and provide two benefits - a graveyard in the center of the zone, and zone-wide buff [Twin Spire Blessing], which carries over to the Coilfang Reservoir instances.

Terokkar Forest - Towers of Auchindoun

The Terokkar Forest PvP activity involves capturing the five Spirit Towers surrounding Auchindoun. The towers are captured the same way as in Hellfire Fortifications. Once a faction controls all five towers simultaneously, they "lock-in" for six hours, and start providing a zone-wide buff [Blessing of Auchindoun], which carries over to Auchindoun instances and allows the collection of Spirit Shards from said instances.

Eye of the Storm loading screen
Nagrand - Halaa

Perhaps the biggest World PvP activity in The Burning Crusade, the Nagrand World PvP event involves capturing the city of Halaa at the center of the zone. The city is guarded by 15 elite guards that must all be killed before the city could be captured. The guards are very strong and possess a very high amount of hit points, so the attacking side can capture the Wyvern roosts surrounding the city and deliver air strikes to the city defenders - at the same time the defenders can attack and destroy the roosts to deny their usage to the enemy. Once the city has been captured, it provides a zone-wide buff [Strength of the Halaani].

Blade's Edge Mountains - Circle of Blood

The Blade's Edge Mountains World PvP activity is not an actual event - instead, the Circle of Blood Arena serves as Player vs. All arena where everyone can fight everyone, similar to Gurubashi Arena. There isn't really much to do in the arena other than fight.

Netherstorm - Eye of the Storm

The Netherstorm PvP activity is not a World PvP event, but a Battleground - a 15vs15 resource race battleground with elements of Capture the Flag.

There were initially no quests associated with the battleground.

Patch 2.1.0 - Black Temple

The first major patch of The Burning Crusade brought a lot of new stories to play.

Step 5 - The Black Temple

Black Temple loading screen

The not-so-casual addition of the patch is the addition of the next raid instance, the Black Temple. And the first thing of note is its utterly ridiculous attunement chain, requiring runs of three previous raids that all require attunements of their own, so unless you have unlocked the Battle for Mount Hyjal, you will not be able to unlock the Black Temple for a while.

The first requirement is the completion of Akama's questline in Shadowmoon Valley:

  1. N [25-30] Tablets of Baa'ri/N [25-30] Tablets of Baa'ri
  2. N [25-30] Oronu the Elder/N [25-30] Oronu the Elder
  3. N [25-30] The Ashtongue Corruptors/N [25-30] The Ashtongue Corruptors
  4. N [25-30] The Warden's Cage/N [25-30] The Warden's Cage
  5. N [25-30] Proof of Allegiance
  6. N [25-30] Akama
  7. N [25-30D] Seer Udalo
  8. N [25-30] A Mysterious Portent
  9. N [25-30G5] The Ata'mal Terrace
  10. N [25-30] Akama's Promise

Doesn't look so hard? It is only the beginning as the second half is much more raid intensive, as to even start it the player has to find Seer Olum in Serpentshrine Cavern:

  1. N [30] The Secret Compromised - Return to Akama.
  2. N [30R] Ruse of the Ashtongue - Kill Al'ar in The Eye while transformed into an Ashtongue via  [Ashtongue Cowl]. Do not forget to transform!
  3. N [30R] An Artifact From the Past - Kill Rage Winterchill during Battle for Mount Hyjal.
  4. N [30] The Hostage Soul - Go to Shattrath and talk to A'dal.
  5. N [30] Entry Into the Black Temple - Go in front of the temple and talk to Xi'ri.
  6. N [30] A Distraction for Akama - Escort Akama and Maiev to the entrance to the temple. Be wary of Doomwalker if doing it alone!
[Medallion of Karabor] get! Here's our entrance to the Black Temple. But there is more to come.
  7. N [30R] Seek Out the Ashtongue - Find Seer Kanai inside the instance. Do not fight Shade of Akama yet!
  8. N [30R] Redemption of the Ashtongue - Kill Shade of Akama and return to the seer.
  9. N [30R] The Fall of the Betrayer - Kill Illidan.

With that, the Black Temple questline is done. For defeating Illidan the player is awarded with a powerful neck piece that has an effect allowing them to teleport to the Black Temple entrance on demand. You have earned it!

The daily grind

The more casual part of the patch is the addition of several daily quest hubs, questlines, and factions. There are many rewards for raising that reputation, including epic flying mounts for reaching Exalted.

Consortium

While not a new faction, a new quest chain was added in Netherstorm requiring Honored reputation. It ultimately concludes with a run of Mana-Tombs on Heroic difficulty, unlocking a unique boss there.

  1. N [25-30] Seek Out Ameer
  2. N [25-30] A Mission of Mercy
  3. N [25-30G] Ethereum Secrets
  4. N [25-30] A Thousand Worlds (Only available at Revered)
  5. N [25-30G] Stasis Chambers of Bash'ir
  6. N [25-30G] The Mark of the Nexus-King
  7. N [25-30H] Stasis Chambers of the Mana-Tombs
  8. N [25-30] The Eye of Haramad (Only available at Exalted)
Netherwing

Another faction that the player previously interacted with. In it, the player infiltrates the Dragonmaw clan orcs in order to sabotage them from within. The player can raise their reputation by doing daily quests at the Netherwing Ledge, and later at the Twilight Ridge.

The Netherwing questline is:

Original questline - Hated to Neutral
  1. N [25-30] Kindness
  2. N [25-30] Seek Out Neltharaku
  3. N [25-30] Neltharaku's Tale
  4. N [25-30] Infiltrating Dragonmaw Fortress
  5. N [25-30] To Netherwing Ledge!
  6. N [25-30] The Force of Neltharaku
  7. N [25-30G] Karynaku
  8. N [25-30G] Zuluhed the Whacked
  9. N [25-30] Ally of the Netherwing
Neutral to Friendly
  1. N [25-30] Blood Oath of the Netherwing
  2. N [25-30] In Service of the Illidari
  3. N [25-30] Enter the Taskmaster
  4. N [25-30] Your Friend On The Inside
Friendly to Honored
  1. N [25-30] Rise, Overseer!
  2. Unlocks both:
Honored to Revered
  1. N [25-30] Stand Tall, Captain!
  2. N [25-30] Earning Your Wings...
Revered to Exalted
  1. N [25-30] Hail, Commander!
  2. N [25-30] Kill Them All! / N [25-30] Kill Them All!
  3. N [25-30] Commander Arcus / N [25-30] Commander Hobb
  4. N [25-30G3 Daily] The Deadliest Trap Ever Laid / N [25-30G3 Daily] The Deadliest Trap Ever Laid
Exalted
  1. N [25-30] Bow to the Highlord
  2. N [25-30] Lord Illidan Stormrage
  3. Players may then select ONE of the following quests to complete:
Sha'tari Skyguard

The first new faction is the air force of the Sha'tar - elite riders of nether rays. The player can raise their reputation by doing daily quests at Skettis and Ogri'la (more on that later).

The Skettis questline is:

  1. N [15-30] Threat From Above
  2. N [15-30] To Skettis! - Access to Skettis quests

Once in Skettis:

  1. N [15-30] World of Shadows
  2. N [15-30] Secrets of the Talonpriests
  3. N [15-30] Ishaal's Almanac
  4. N [15-30] An Ally in Lower City
  5. N [15-30] Countdown to Doom
  6. N [15-30] Hazzik's Bargain
  7. N [15-30] A Shabby Disguise
  8. N [15-30G3] Adversarial Blood
  9. N [15-30G5] Terokk's Downfall
Ogri'la

Speaking of Ogri'la, it is another faction added in the patch - a tribe of ogres living high up in Blade's Edge Mountains. Before the player can access them they have to prove their worth, and once they do, new daily quests open up, giving reputation not just with Ogri'la, but also with the Sha'tari Skyguard.

The Ogri'la questline is:

  1. N [20-30] Speak with the Ogre
  2. N [20-30] Mog'dorg the Wizened / N [20-30] Mog'dorg the Wizened / N [20-30] The Trouble Below
  3. Complete all three to continue:
  4. N [20-30G5] Grim(oire) Business
  5. N [20-30G] Into the Soulgrinder
  6. N [20-30] Speak with Mog'dorg (optional)
  7. N [20-30] Ogre Heaven
  8. N [20-30] The Crystals
  9. N [20-30] Our Boy Wants To Be A Skyguard Ranger
  10. N [20-30] A Father's Duty (optional)
  11. N [20-30] The Skyguard Outpost
  12. Unlocks the following:
  13. N [20-30G5] To Rule The Skies

Other Ogri'la quests are:

Swift Flight Form

Druids gain an exclusive quest line in this patch that teaches them the [Swift Flight Form], allowing them to fly as fast as an epic flying mount. As a bonus, the quest chain allows them to fight an additional boss in Heroic Sethekk Halls, with a chance for a unique epic mount.

This is the full quest line for the Druid [Swift Flight Form].

  1. N Druid [70] Morthis Whisperwing
  2. N Druid [70] The Ward of Wakening
  3. N Druid [70] Waking the Sleeper
  4. N Druid [70] No Mere Dream

Patch 2.3.0 - The Gods of Zul'Aman

Zul'Aman loading screen

This is one of the most casual-focused patches in the game, with the big part of its changes being targeted at various quality of life changes.

Zul'Aman

The biggest change is the addition of the eponymous temple city of the Amani trolls as a new raid instance. Unlike previously introduced Black Temple, Zul'Aman is not a top-tier raid, instead being an "in-between" raid like how Zul'Gurub was.

The quests associated with Zul'Aman are:

  1. N [70R] Oooh, Shinies! (breadcrumb)
  2. N [70R] Promises, Promises...
  3. N [70R] X Marks... Your Doom!
  4. N [70G] Hex Lord? Hah!
  1. N [70R] Tuskin' Raiders
  2. N [70] A Troll Among Trolls
  3. N [70R] Playin' With Dolls

Attunement no more

Another big change is the removal of Instance attunement mechanic. No more being forced to run heroic dungeons and old raids to access the Black Temple, now the only thing keeping players back is their gear and skill, and Zul'Aman will sure help with the former if players can handle it. While Heroic difficulty dungeons still require their specific keys, the reputation requirement has been lowered and only requires Honored reputation now.

Zone update - Dustwallow Marsh

Another big change was a massive extension of quests in Dustwallow Marsh. Those storylines that previously ended on a cliffhanger? Now is the time to go and finish them! For a total list of quests, see Dustwallow Marsh quests and look for Bc icon.gif for new quests.

Learning to Fly

Players who reach level 70, yet don't already have Expert Riding now get a quest directing them towards the appropriate Riding trainer, to go and get those wings already!

Call to Arms!

A PvP-connected change is the introduction of Call to Arms daily quests, which encourage players to fight in Battlegrounds for additional Honor points and money.

The quests are:

Patch 2.4.0 - Fury of the Sunwell

Magisters' Terrace loading screen

The last major patch of The Burning Crusade returns players to Azeroth, specifically to the Isle of Quel'Danas.

New zone - Isle of Quel'Danas

Main article: Isle of Quel'Danas quests

An island located at the northernmost point of the Eastern Kingdoms. Its once pristine beauty was shattered by the Scourge. The main enemies here are the Burning Legion.

The storyline of the zone is quite unique in that it was not advanced by individual questlines, but rather server-wide through actions of every player doing daily quests. As such, the actual story of the zone is rather barebones.

Newly introduced dungeon Magisters' Terrace and raid instance Sunwell Plateau are located in this zone.

New reputation faction - Shattered Sun Offensive

By doing daily quests at the isle, the player gains reputation with the united forces of Aldor and Scryers, who decided to take action to prevent Kil'jaeden's summoning.

The player can also gain reputation through running Magisters' Terrace.

Increasing reputation with this faction provides benefits in the form of powerful equimpent, as well as several Enchanting, Jewelcrafting, and Alchemy recipes.

New dungeon - Magisters' Terrace

A new 5-man dungeon, located at the northeastern part of the island. In it, the player finally deals Kael'thas something that is more than a setback.

The Heroic difficulty for this dungeon only requires that one completes the dungeon's questline, which starts at Shattrath City:

  1. N [25-30] Crisis at the Sunwell / N [25-30] Duty Calls
  2. N [25-30D] Magisters' Terrace (Retail) / N [70D] Magisters' Terrace (TBC Classic)
  3. N [25-30D] Severed Communications (Retail only)
  4. N [25-30D] The Scryer's Scryer
  5. N [25-30D] Hard to Kill

New raid instance - Sunwell Plateau

The final raid of The Burning Crusade. Unlike the prior raids, Sunwell plateau was not blocked by attunements, but instead had its last three bosses timegated.

There are no quests associated with the raid instance itself.

World PvP quests

A number of quests have been added to incentivize players to participate in World PvP activities. While one of them was added back in patch 2.1, it felt prudent to group it with others.
