Fyrakk wielding Fyr'alath in concept art.

Fyr'alath the Dreamrender is a legendary 2-handed axe obtained from the Amirdrassil, the Dream's Hope raid. It is a strength weapon and only death knights, paladins, and warriors can use it. After collecting numerous resources from across the Dragon Isles,[1] the axe was forged by Igira in Zaralek Cavern for Fyrakk, enchanted by Druids of the Flame, infused with Smolderon's essence, and imbued with shadowflame. It allowed Fyrakk to open tears into the Emerald Dream, hence its name.

Source

A shadowflame-infused version of Fyr'alath drops directly from Fyrakk the Blazing as personal loot, with higher drop chances in higher difficulties. On Mythic difficulty, the axe also has a slim chance of dropping as group loot. Equipping the axe damages the player and consumes the axe, turning it into a quest-starting item that starts N [70] The Shadowflame Axe. This begins an acquisition questline, much like with  [Nasz'uro, the Unbound Legacy].

Reagents

Three quest items are required to be made, which require help from friendly crafters who will temporarily learn the recipes required:

Bad-luck protection

Bad-luck protection exists in the form of the  [Greater Ember of Fyr'alath], which drops from Fyrakk if the axe itself does not. Additionally, all other Amirdrassil bosses on Heroic or Mythic difficulty can drop a  [Lesser Ember of Fyr'alath].

A blue post explains further:

Greetings heroes of the Dream!

While Mythic champions begin to harness the intense Shadowflame within Fyr'alath the Dream Render, we'd like to share some details on how other denizens of Azeroth may get their hands on this igneous item.

We have observed many thousands of Evokers swooping down into Aberrus to forge their new legacy and heard their triumphant roars echoing eternally upon acquiring Nasz'uro. We've also heard feedback about how this process felt for players and have made some adjustments for Fyr'alath's acquisition with that in mind, in hopes of better aligning players' chances and effort.

Fyr'alath can be obtained with any loot specialization for Death Knights, Paladins, and Warriors by defeating Fyrakk within the heart of Amirdrassil on all difficulties, which will be very rare on Raid Finder difficulty (when available) and significantly increases in drop rate with each difficulty. As with Nasz'uro, completion on higher difficulties will include your chances from all uncompleted lower difficulties that week–this also includes the cumulative increase in chances for future weeks.

The cumulative increase to your drop chances will now be available from all difficulties and will be directly represented by players receiving a Greater Ember of Fyr'alath when defeating Fyrakk. Additionally, defeating other encounters within Amirdrassil on Heroic or Mythic difficulty has a chance to award a Lesser Ember of Fyr'alath which will further attune you to the Shadowflame, increasing your cumulative chances on both difficulties. Beyond that, Fyr'alath will continue to drop as Group Loot from Fyrakk on Mythic difficulty at a greatly reduced chance.

We hope these adjustments allow this legendary to continue to serve as an aspirational goal for all players, while providing additional incentive and reward for those who wish to challenge themselves on higher difficulties.

On 20 February 2024, Blizzard announced a retroactive hotfix that significantly increased the effect of Embers of Fyr'alath:

Many aspects of Dragonflight have reflected a shift in philosophy towards designs that allow us to enjoy reaching a point where we feel "done" with a character's power progression. Legendaries returned as an exception to this. Legendaries are intended to be a special reward that some players would aspire to obtain over the course of a season, demonstrating a display of excellence in the most challenging content.

As Season 3 has unfolded, we've increasingly heard feedback from frustrated players who have been clearing Amirdrassil weekly on Heroic difficulty with no Fyr'alath in sight, and we want to give those players a surer path to achieving their goal.

Earlier today, with a hotfix that is now live, we significantly increased the effect of all Embers of Fyr'alath for players who receive them. This increase is retroactive and applies to all players whether or not you've consumed any Embers you may have.

As always, thank you for your feedback!
