Legion ship
Legion ships[1] (also called command ships,[2][3][4] battleships,[5] cruisers,[6] warships,[7] or command centers)[8][9] are spaceships created by the Burning Legion that can teleport and travel between the Twisting Nether and the Great Dark Beyond. Being dagger-shaped, the tip of the ships forms a portal which can then be used to summon in more demons and bombard enemy troops with infernal-like fireballs.
Background
Souls are used in Legion ships' creation, and are consumed over time by fel energies. Such torment is beyond the comprehension of the mortal mind. Destroyed ships can release the remnants of said souls, which are then lost in endless pain and wail in agony.[10]
Each ship requires multiple power cores, which are standard hyper-injection fel matter anti-matter devices, charged with the energy of fel geysers.[11]
They are used to transport and deploy troops directly on the field, as well as acting like gateways for the Legion to summon their armies. They are thus present on both the worlds they invade as well as their own worlds where the demons reside, serving as bases of operations. They were deployed in great numbers during the various stages of the Legion's third invasion of Azeroth, including the Battle for the Broken Shore, the Legion invasions and the assault on Karazhan.
Their primary port-of-call is Terminus in the Antoran Wastes. There are also fighter-sized versions there, flown by some of the Legion's most skilled pilots.
Functionalities and characteristics
Matron Mother Malevolence used the Fel Hammer's warp systems to transport the bulk of the recently freed Illidari forces aboard, but doing so greatly taxed the ship's power. Instead, the leader of the Illidari used the power of their warglaives to tear a rift in reality and open a permanent gateway, powered by captured demons' souls, from Dalaran to the Fel Hammer. From the other side of the portal, the gateway is being kept open by Priestesses of Dementia.
The Lightbreaker could only be accessed through a portal locked to those without the key, divided in two halves which were given to the powerful lieutenants of the demon Azoran, commander of the operations in Felsoul Hold.[1]
Viz'aduum the Watcher tried to utilize two of them in Netherspace to secure Karazhan and tether the tower to every single Legion world in existence, which would've allowed the infinite armies of the Legion to pour into Azeroth. A massive number of them could be seen in the distance.[12]
When Mephistroth's ship crashed on the Broken Shore, the souls used in its creation were released and wander the area in ceaseless agony and pain.[13]
The top of a Legion ship's spire is a cannon, a weapon demonstrated by the Fel Hammer.[14]
When traveling or generally on the move, Legion ships will be horizontal, and their commanders will sometimes stand on top of the ship itself as the upper hull is apparently designed to be a platform and walkway in that position. When being used as a command center, however, the ship will be maneuvered vertically until its bow is pointing straight up, like a tower. In this position, the decks become accessible to players and the ship is more like a building. It's possible some sort of artificial gravity system is used in the ship, otherwise the Dreadex would have to reorganize its substantial amount of cargo every time it flew somewhere.
Notable
- The Fel Hammer, on Mardum, the Shattered Abyss. It was in this ship that the [Sargerite Keystone] was being safekept by Brood Queen Tyranna. It was captured by the Illidari.
- The Lightbreaker, command ship of Felsoul Hold,[15] which Azoran planned to use to destroy Dalaran.
- The Soulrender, floating over Faronaar.
- Shadowgore Citadel.
- The Cathedral, on Niskara, attached to a cliff.
- The Sentinax, patrolling the Broken Shore and later destroyed at the Antoran Wastes.
- The Dreadex, where wyrmtongues take the trinkets they steal.[16]
- Mephistroth's unnamed ship over the Black City, destroyed during the assault on Broken Shore.
- The Dreadsoul, floating above the Felstorm and assaulted by the Armies of Legionfall.[17]
- The unnamed Legion Command Ship floating over the Broken Shore.
- Kil'jaeden's unnamed flagship whose remains crashed on Argus at Deceiver's Scar.
- Micronax
- The Paraxis, is summoned from the building to the south in Antoran Wastes, bombarding players around the wastes unless protected at Army of the Light locations or the Vindicaar.
- Minixis
- Radinax
- The ships used by the leaders of the Legion Assaults.
- Talgath's ship, called Talgath's Command.
As a battle pet
- [Micronax Controller] is rewarded from [Glory of the Tomb Raider].
Notes
- They can dock on soul engines.
- These ships have existed for "quite a long time" according to Alex Afrasiabi.[18] They at least already existed during the era of the invasion of Outland, since the Fel Hammer was captured by the Illidari back then. Models of them can be seen on a tactical map in the Chamber of War, showing that they were also around during the War of the Ancients.
- The [Legion Invasion Simulator] summons one that works similar to a [Steam Tonk Controller].

Their prows somewhat resemble melted and warped versions of the titan architecture of Stormheim, hinting at possible titan influence in their design.
