WoW's Anniversary (or in-lore as the Bronze Celebration)[1] is an event celebrated around the 23rd of November as that marks the release of the original World of Warcraft in 2004 and coincides with Warcraft's Anniversary which takes place around the 15th of November. Logging in during the anniversary typically rewards a special achievement and gives a unique buff to experience and reputation earned for the duration of the event. Every five or ten years may involve a special event to go along with the normal event such as the 10th anniversary included a level 100 version of Molten Core and the 15th anniversary included a set of miniature raid wings that players had to survive through called the Memories of Azeroth.

Announced at gamescom 2024, the 20th event started on 22 October 2024 and lasts until 7 January 2025, allowing players to "explore the rich history of Azeroth and earn exclusive rewards". History

The  [Obsidian Worldbreaker] mount is inspired by Deathwing.

Throughout the course of each anniversary event, some saw exclusive activities that were only be possible to participate during that anniversary year. This section aims at listing these special events, what changes occurred during a anniversary which would carry onto future anniversary events.

4-9th Anniversaries

The anniversaries during this period saw no special activities other than the 4th anniversary mailing the  [Baby Blizzard Bear] pet, the 5th anniversary mailing the  [Onyxian Whelpling] pet, and the 8th anniversary starting the  [Celebration Package] buff that would last up until the 20th anniversary. The pets were exclusive to their anniversaries.

10th Anniversary in 2014

The 10th anniversary saw players receiving the  [Molten Corgi] pet in the mail, the introduction of a level 100-scaled Molten Core via the Raid Finder which players can earn the  [Boldly, You Sought the Power of Ragnaros] achievement that rewarded the  [Core Hound Chain]. Ragnaros also had a chance to drop the  [Hatespark the Tiny] pet and the  [Illusion: Flames of Ragnaros]. Player vs Player saw the exclusive 40v40 Southshore vs Tarren Mill battleground.

Most of the activities and rewards were exclusive to this anniversary year with Southshore vs Tarren Mill battleground being re-added with the PvP Brawls in patch 7.2.0 and the  [Illusion: Flames of Ragnaros] being available from the Feast of Winter Veil event.

11-14th Anniversaries

The 11th anniversary introduced the  [Anniversary Gift], with future anniversaries continuing with it up until the 20th anniversary. The 12th anniversary introduced the  [Letter from the Timewalkers] and continued with an additional quest item,  [A Slightly More Urgent Letter from the Timewalkers], in the 13th anniversary.

The 13th anniversary introduced new activities that would ultimately be part of the new anniversary experience which includes the re-introduction of the vanilla world bosses that were originally removed. This include N [30-80W] The Originals quest which involves Lord Kazzak, Azuregos, and the four Dragons of Nightmare (Ysondre, Lethon, Emeriss, Taerar).

15th Anniversary in 2019

Players were able to participate in the miniature raid encounters as part of the Memories of Azeroth to obtain the  [Memories of Fel, Frost and Fire] achievement and the  [Obsidian Worldbreaker]. Players were also mailed the  [Lil' Nefarian] pet. The raid activity, the reward from it and pet were exclusive to this anniversary year.

This anniversary also introduced Korrak's Revenge, a re-implementation of the classic Alterac Valley with the  [Frostwolf Snarler] and  [Stormpike Battle Ram] mounts as rewards, and refreshed the  [Anniversary Gift] with only one quest starter item as the  [Invitation from the Timewalkers] and the new  [Celebration Firework] item. These remain available past this anniversary year.

16-19th Anniversaries

The event in this time frame remained mostly the same, with small additions being added later on. The 17th anniversary that included the Doomwalker world boss and relevant quest N [30-70W] Doomwalkin' Has Come Knockin', along with two vanity rewards:  [Doomwalker Trophy Stand] and  [Illidari Doomhawk]. The 19th anniversary saw new rewards which includes the  [Azure Worldchiller] that dropped from the Doomwalker world boss and  [Lil' Frostwing] which was mailed to the player in the Anniversary Gift.

These rewards, excluding the  [Lil' Frostwing] pet, remains available with each future anniversary event.

20th Anniversary in 2024

The 20th Anniversary saw an overhauled main area of the anniversary, moving from inside the Caverns of Time to just outside at the entrance. New activities, structures, and visitors along with new rewards and an opportunity to obtain past rewards from the 4th anniversary to the 15th. Many exclusive rewards and activities were also available during this anniversary, more so than any other past anniversary event with exclusive content.

Trivia

  • The first WoW anniversary (2005) did not feature any in-game event. It instead was celebrated on the community website with a Community Timeline.[4] This timeline featured game updates, subscribers' milestones, and remarkable fan-made content (such as the infamous Leeroy Jenkins video). It is possible to visit an archived version of this website.
  • There are no achievements for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd anniversaries because the Achievement system only came out in 2008 with Wrath of the Lich King, four years since the initial release of World of Warcraft.
