Threadlings are small, six-legged spider-like nerubians. They can spin strong webs[1] and have tough burrowing claws allowing them to easily travel around subterranean areas.[2]

In Azjol-Nerub, threadlings are intelligent and capable of speech.[3] Most have been raised as Scourge. At least some seem to be responsible for digging tunnels[4] or tending to nerubian eggs,[5] while others seem to mainly serve a combat role as assassins[6] or by attacking enemies in large swarms.[7] Thousands of them swarm underneath Northrend to this day.[8]

In Azj-Kahet, threadlings are non-sapient beasts that nest in pillar-nests alongside swarmites.[9][10] They are commonly left to fend for themselves after hatching.[11]

Notes

  • Azjol-Nerub threadlings have the model name nerubian spiderling in the game files,[12] but they are never identified as such in-game and do not closely resemble the nerubian spiderlings of Warcraft III.

Speculation

This article or section includes speculation, observations or opinions possibly supported by lore or by Blizzard officials. It should not be taken as representing official lore.

As they have six legs, they could be insects and not spiders. Nerubians might form some sort of symbiotic relation with a variety of non-nerubian insects, carrying them with them even in undeath as seen with crypt lords' use of insects: carrion beetles and locusts.
