Nezar'Azret, a nerubian queen as seen in Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne.

Nerubian queens are a type of nerubians who serve as both leaders and mothers to their subjects. It is rumored that they can genetically pass knowledge from mother to daughter.[1]

Nerubian queens serve as the mothers of nerubian cities. While smaller nerubian communities are ruled by councils of spiderlords, larger communities have a more traditional structure in which the elders elect one of their own, usually the eldest female, as queen.[2][3] Queens are enormous. The most ancient ones can reach 40 feet in height and fill an entire cavern with their bloated bodies. Nerubians claim that an individual's power can be safely estimated by its size — so these very large queens are also very, very powerful.[3] Most combine tactical skill with arcane might, and usually belong to the aristocrat, healer, or wizard classes. Queens have something akin to genetic memory, transferred through arcane memory from mother to daughter, allowing them to recall matters from past ages and lives.[2] The queen's edicts are law, but her judgments are often tempered by the counsel of spiderlords, and the spiderlords do not hesitate to replace a queen whose judgment seems unwise. However, queens are revered as the keepers of ancestral memory, and no one except an entire council of spiderlords, acting in unison, would dare to openly challenge her authority.[3]

A few queens escaped the fall of Azjol-Nerub during the War of the Spider and scattered across Northrend, and are, along with the seers, perhaps the nerubians who feel the loss of their kingdom most keenly. One such queen is Azhuul'Mehab, queen of the Sundered Monolith. She lives alongside other egg-laying females in a huge cavern at the bottom level of the community.[4]
